How to Watercolor Pencil Hawthorn Berries on Handmade Paper - Make Your Own Botanical Greetings Card

I was recently sent a sample pack of Clairefontaine PaintON mixed media paper, so today I thought I'd have some fun with a piece of that as well as some of my own handmade paper. Since handmade paper isn't sized, I chose to use my watercolor pencils dry - but if you're following along using watercolor paper you could take it further and add water to achieve a watercolor effect.

Diane, this is a lovely idea. The texture on the handmade paper is wonderful to begin with, but the added ingredients of flower petals and then your artwork....beautiful!

You've got a sweet little bear there as dogs are part of the bear family! We used to have an Italian Greyhound named Rocky and we rescued him from an abusive family. I miss him so much because he was always by my side because I have serious health problems. Pets are such a treasure aren't they? Wanting care and love, they don't ask for much do they? A tear comes to my eye when i think of our dear Rocky. I'm so lonely without him. That's the only down side to having an animal, when you lose them. May the wind be at your back my sweet Rocky. Thanks Michele for your kind words and sharing. I'm so sorry about Rocky - I don't know what I'd do without my animals, they are the framework of my life, and I'm sorry you can't have them now. Most of ours are rescues for the neighbourhood, abandoned or mistreated by their owners. We try to make them happy! Keep watching and keep commenting - I love to hear from you!

Diane, Tamsin, and Russell, this was such an enjoyable video to watch. Russell, you certainly won the dog lotto getting to live in the Antone household. What a sweet, playful, and well behaved dog you are. This tutorial is so lovely in every way. The soft music along with "real life" sounds really set the mood. Especially your conversation with Russell! So, so sweet and he seems to be adjust so well. Your handmade paper is a treasure. I've been saving dried petals to make my own paper, but think I'll wait until the weather warms. I love how you utilize various mediums, as it acts as a reminder for me to reach for something other than my watercolor paints. The berries and Hawthorne leaves are gorgeous. Amazing on all counts! xo

Dear Diane, this was so enjoyable to watch. Just when I think I have seen all the wonderful techniques that you so kindly share each week with us then you show us something else ! It was beautiful. I love the little pencil sharpener , I get into such a mess when I use my little stainless steel one , shavings everywhere! You really are a very talented artist who produces some really interesting videos and I can see why you fell in love with Russell, those big gorgeous eyes of his !

Lovely! You reminded me of some handmade paper I did about 25 years ago, using lavender. Now I need to go through my stash and find it all! Hi Sylvia, thanks for your super comments, and I'm glad you enjoyed the last video - and yes, Russell was being mistreated by our neighbour so basically I stole him. He is now lying low in the studio. Luckily we can walk him in the direction away from his old house so no-one will see him. She is a horrible woman and doesn't deserve animals. Glad you are well xxx

Loved this I would love to learn more about Marjorie Blame, ( I paused you to try and find out more about her, as those pictures, really reached out to my senses!….I could almost smell the fall colors from my mountain!) I did find out she was born in 1918… I Would love to do a research project on her. What is the name of the book you showed us?… I saw only one of her book s on my Amazon app, and,what little they showed only appeared to be flowers, ….I love autumn colors. …. Also, I used to love to make homemade paper, years ago as well. (I have not thought about that for years, and I still have all the stuff to make it, (in a closet some where!) 😊🤷‍♀️ ..Maybe in the spring, it will be my “Welcome Warmer Weather”, Project!❤

Hi Kathy, I’ve got two books by Marjorie Blamey. They are called Flowers of the Countryside and Painting Flowers. She only painted flowers really, or at least nature. She does have an interesting life story as she certainly didn’t start painting until later in life. There’s quite a lot of information about her story in the books, written by herself, and on Wikipedia there’s some interesting facts here en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjorie_Blamey She was 101 when she died in 2019, the same year I discovered her and started the channel, coincidentally. She was a wonderful person, by all accounts. Hope you find the books and enjoy looking into her life xxx

Love this (and Russell) I like using watercolour pencils and am intrigued by the pencil planer. Do you know where can I get one? getting a point on a watercolour pencil is very tricky, ordinary sharpeners and or knives tend to break the paint.
