Good video, only thing I wish u would have mentioned is the catastrophic effects on paint if when using an orbital sander be sure to keep it moving in different areas of the car and not to leave it in the same spot. Running an orbital buffer more than a couple seconds in the same spot and you'll burn a hole right through the clearcoat and onto the basecoat and that's when those pretty swirl marks appear and you'll be paying a body shop a few grand for a new paint job. I go with a dual action polisher aka, Random Orbital Sander, waaay safer.

Hi Michael, we definitely agree, we're using the Flex XC 3401 VRG Dual Action Orbital Polisher. We prefer it especially for a job like this where the goal is to coat the surface without leaving any marks. But using it with an extra soft polishing pad and you'll be safe in most scenarios!

I think the default for everyone nowadays is a ceramic coating for everything and honestly I don't like the look of a ceramic coating it gives the car this plastic toy car type look and as durable as they may be they just don't suit every color well and for most do it yourselfers anyway they don't have the time to have their car down several days to do a proper paint correction if they even know how to do it and have the ceramic coating cure properly and not get it wet for a period of time and all that just isn't realistic for the average person doing the work themselves. So this actually seems to appeal to more little IMO.

I want to use Dr. Colorchip for spot repairs but just got off the phone and she told me I need to wait 30 days for their product to set. She suggested I wax completely, then use rubbing alcohol to clean the areas I want to repair, do the repair, wait 30 days, then rewax with DA. I guess I could gently apply wax by hand over the respires areas, but will wait and DA. Thanks for the video👍👍👍

Hello, yes the Flex polisher is more of a professional tool or for the enthusiast that is doing frequent work, however for light polishing and wax application needs, you can also use a more consumer grade option such as a Porter Cable Orbital Polisher. If you aren't looking to do heavy cutting, that is a great budget friendly way to get the job done.

@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, that's an interesting question! You could in theory, but we don't think the pad would be absorbent enough to remove the entire wax layer. It would likely take some off initially, but once the pad loads up with wax it would just end up pushing it around as it did with the application. You'd probably still need to follow up with a towel to remove all the wax.

@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Hi @idabouss5982, unfortunately detailing in intense heat will always be a bit more difficult in general. Our best suggestions to deal with the heat are to 1) NEVER wax in direct sunlight. Find a shady area to work in. And 2) don't wax on a hot car. If a car has been sitting in the sun and is hot when you go to detail it, you should move it to a shaded area and allow it to cool before touching it. Hopefully these help you some with dealing with extreme temperatures 🙂

Can I buff off the wax with the polisher instead of the microfiber towel? If not recommended, why?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
We wouldn't recommend this option because since you are attempting to remove the excess wax, you'll be left with your polisher pad running pretty dry on the surface. This will greatly increase the chance of potential swirls as you continue to run the polisher. Also, since our waxes our designed to be easily removed, it should be easier and faster to remove by hand with a towel. You'll likely be able to cover a larger area faster without having to carefully go over the whole car again with the polisher. Now, in theory, if you desired you could potentially use a very soft, clean microfiber pad to remove buff off the surface, but we see it as something that would only potentially create issues without having much upside in our opinion.

For customers do you absolutely have to clay it first? Or can you just wash it really good and come in the the wax
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! Using a clay bar or mitt is not required with the wash process. However, you will see a noticeable difference when you have washed AND clayed, as clay removes contaminants on a much higher level than any wash will. If you plan on correcting the paint, after washing and before waxing, you can forego the clay. Buffing will remove much of the contamination that you would remove with clay. So, it is not a required step. Depending on the finish you want to reach, it may be preferred.

If you have OEM paint in good condition, polishing will almost never hurt your paint, and it is fine to do so before applying wax. Most waxes will polish a little so it depends on the condition. Slower orbital speeds are usually recommended for final polishing and waxing.

@MalcoAutomotive Жыл бұрын
We can't be sure what issue you are experiencing but some factors you may want to consider include: 1.) applying even pressure to ensure consistent movement of your pad 2.) The right size pad - a pad that is too large can bog down more easily 3.) using the right amount of product - too much or too little product can suppress movement of your pad. 4.) proper correction before applying wax - deep scratches and thick contamination can also affect pad movement. The wax type you are using should not be the issue.

Hello! A couple factors may be affecting your application. On initial application of the product to the surface, be sure to spread the product at a low speed, with a very soft pad. You don't want to apply the product at too high of a speed. You will also want to make sure you are applying the appropriate amount of product. You don't want to use too much. Lastly, be sure to keep your pad flat against the panel. Hope this helps!

When waxing and entire car, at a certain point do you have to wipe down the pad or swap it?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
If you are using an orbital polisher during your wax application, you really shouldn’t have to clean your pad out as you are not buffing, you are just trying to achieve complete coverage with the wax. If your pad is dirty, or the surface of the paint is dirty, you need to stop and address the contaminated surfaces before continuing to apply the wax. This should be a very quick and easy step preformed on a prepped surface.

Does it matter what type of pad medium or fine ect. used to apply wax?
@MalcoAutomotive

Hi Matthew! Good question. When it comes to applying waxes, the softer the pad the better. Malco's EPIC™ Black Foam Polishing Pad is ideal. Thanks!

How long do you let the wax dry before wiping it off?
@tomjohnson3141
@tomjohnson3141 7 ай бұрын
Drying time will vary based on material thickness, product, humidity and temperature. You want the material to be completely dry, but you don't want to let it sit in the sun and bake in. Wax in the the shade, and wipe once dry.

What kind of pad can I use for wax?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 2 ай бұрын
For a finishing wax, best practices would dictate using the softest pad in your lineup. If you're shopping our pads specifically, the black foam Epic finishing pad would be our recommendation.

Hi,can I put another spray wax,after applyig tUrtlewax liquid..thanks
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 4 жыл бұрын
You could likely apply the spray wax over another wax layer without any kind of issues, however, the top layer isn't going to bond well to the first wax layer so it won't provide much more protection or longevity.

Do we need to clean the pad after each panel like compounds?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
If the surface has been corrected or properly cleaned prior to applying the wax then you shouldn't have to clean it. If you're working on something that might be dirtier or oxidized and you can see that your pad is getting dirty or you are getting any kind of swirling, then you should clean the pad as it might have picked up debris and dirt along the way.

Can I use the was paste on buffer machine instead on hand?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! It is possible to apply our paste waxes by machine. However, you will want to work at a very slow RPM and use a soft pad. It will also be important to stay out of the sun, as this will make the wax very difficult to remove.

Can you take the wax off with the polisher with a microfiber bonnet?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, if you are asking about removing the excess after applying the wax then yes, you can use a clean microfiber bonnet to remove the wax. If you are looking to completely strip the wax from the surface, then you would need to use a degreaser or an IPA like solution.

Trim stain is issue ? Or no stain at all
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 4 жыл бұрын
If you allow the wax to dry and bake onto the surface it has the potential to stain. If you get excess on while working we recommend cleaning it off the trim as soon as possible.

Damn, 4 drops for an entire side. I'm doing it wrong apparently. My DA polisher doesn't seem to get any real spin at the lowest setting, no matter how hard I push (or not)

Do you get white maarks on the rubber?
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 3 жыл бұрын
Wax on rubber should always be removed quickly. Most waxes will dry white on rubber if not removed. Use an alcohol or solvent based cleaner to remove the wax if it has dried.

Is an orbital polisher the same as a random orbit polisher
@MalcoAutomotive
@MalcoAutomotive 5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, a random orbit polisher is a type of orbital polisher, we consider there are two main versions of orbitals, that being forced-action and free-spinning or random orbit, but either will work for this application.
