Rich, can you find out the name of the tougher serving you had put on your crossbow. I just built a stringing jig, and started building my own strings.
@Deathbybunjie2 жыл бұрын
I actually don't do that anymore...sorry! A local shop was re-serving them for me, it was a tougher material but over time I learned the tougher, tighter material ended up with a slightly smaller in diameter serving. My accuracy suffered a little! So since then I've gone back to just buying a new Excalibur string every year. This has worked for me. I hope that helps!

I'm new to crossbows and just bought an Excalibur 308 Short that I love. Being in Texas, even in November-December we can have temps in the 80's and low 90's. I could see the instance that the wax simply melts off the string, so needing to check your string for wax more often.

Back in the 80's when I was a Bow Hunter Education Instructor team leader, we used to do a segment we called "The Great Bow Debate". I presented the "pros" of my Howard Hill Big Five bamboo longbow, and one of my guys talked the "cons". He then presented the "pros" of his new fangled compound bow with all the bells and whistles. I then got to present the "cons" to his "contraption". At the very end I would drop my bow onto the table- not quite throwing it- and dare him to do the same with his compound. He quite smartly never took me up on the challenge. (I mean, what could possibly go wrong? **WinK**) And THAT, my Friend, is why I believe that Excalibur crossbows roCk. Hunt safely, my Friends!

Great vid! and very timely. I have always applied rail lube and wax to my string. However, the dealer where I bought my crossbow said to not wax the serving. And I think it is for the reason you stated - so that wax doesn't build up in the trigger mechanism. BTW it is a Mathews. The kids love it. Got my first crossbow, string got eaten up with less then 40 shots and i decided to take it off. I took some fine sanding paper and decided to take away all the rough edges from the crossbow instead of breaking it in naturally. The crossbow is built so the string pushes down on the rail, so some extra wear and tear is expected, but this was going a bit fast for my taste. Now I'm trying to figure out how to preserve my string, i just put on a new string because it came with two strings, but i cannot afford a new string every day practicing.

Yes the accuracy and how would you accurately how would you make a crossbow with a 150 pound pole with the iron site how would you site it in I,m new to this and you are sold. dog at this.
@Deathbybunjie7 жыл бұрын
+Gary Taylor lol, thanks. With iron sites same as others I think. Start at 10 yards, shoot while seated and xbow on a rest (I've used sawhorses, chairs, and a tripod as a rest, but something solid). Get it good at 10 then move back to 20 and fine tune. The difference with iron sights I think is once you're good at 20, shoot at 10 and 30 to see how much difference there is when you aim at bullseye. 10 will be high and 30 will be low but how low or high is question. You will have to aim that much high or low while hunting. Not an easy task, but it can be done. You'll need to practice a lot before hunting to really feel comfortable hunting with it. And know how far away the deer is so you know how high or low to aim. I would make a scope my first investment though if you can. Good luck!

@Deathbybunjie6 жыл бұрын
well that sucks! sorry to hear that. either way i wouldn't wax it too much, just enough to help protect the serving from wear, not so much that it gums up the works or leaves residue on the rail. hope that helps. Good luck out there!
@charlieswearingen5006 жыл бұрын
I wax the serving, but I rub the wax well into the serving so that there is no excess left on it to gum up the trigger catch. I usually rub, and apply enough pressure to cause a little friction and heat up the wax as it is applied to the serving. Also, I have the Exocet 200 and I just apply a little bit of the string wax to the rail. Again, Not enough to gum things up, but just rub it in so there is a very thin, smooth layer of lube. I know the string wax can be a little bit tacky, but it protects the string/rail, I've never had any problems with the trigger catch, it seems to have no neg affect on performance, and my strings last a long time. Thanks for the videos. They are always very clear, concise and informative.

Am I the only person who's thinking if wax is good to reduced friction, wouldn't a small amount of Mobile 1 synthetic bearing grease reduce the friction many many times better? Just because nobody uses it doesn't make it completely wrong, does it. What are your thoughts??
@Deathbybunjie6 жыл бұрын
+GrandPines323 I'm not sure. That's my honest answer. Certain products will break down the string, and that could be a problem. On the other hand I talked to people recently who used different types of rail lube and some of them increased the speed of their crossbow, believe it or not. It is not something we know everything about, that's for sure. I guess my reaction is if it's not broke, don't fix it. I'm happy with what I've got as long as it works as expected every time. That's the most important thing to me, that consistency. I don't want to be the test case LOL.

Literally did the same thing, the serving is still on it’s the middle part that’s messed up and you can move it’s some. Some say I shouldn’t shoot when it’s a little messed up but I don’t see a problem I’ve been shooting with it and it’s just as accurate and I recently put red dot sight on my crossbow and shot a arrow inside a arrow. I just make sure the serving is still covering the bow string for the most part.

I just picked up a Killer Instinct Ripper 415. As I am new to all of this ( I used to shoot period recurve bows for show), I looked up the kinetic energy of the crossbow, and it came out at 168 ft/lbs. I wax my rail 15-20 bolts but my serving is smoking and starting to wear. Crossbow is only a couple of months old.
@richardshomestead8497 жыл бұрын
I couple months old means nothing when it comes serving wear. If shot enough the serving can go in a month or two. Depending on type of serving and how its maintained not to mention how well it was put on to begin with. What I do since I own a Excalibur is keep a spare string on hand. When the serving looks like its gone. Replace the string. If the serving has not worn all the way thru then have the old one reserved.

I think they were ahead of their time! Very good crossbows, and I think they're around 330 feet per second which means they are competitive, and even faster than my crossbow. Depends on what you're looking for. But certainly a pretty neat model.

Death by Bunjie it actually predates the Exocet 200, but the only difference is the 200 has some angled spacers under the limbs to add just a bit more thrust. Do you have any experience using a Trigger Tech trigger in an Excalibur?

Unfortunately no but I will check that out

in a pinch could i use some chapstick or lip balm?
@Deathbybunjie6 жыл бұрын
+vomitedshit I suppose, but I really don't think you'll find yourself in a pinch when it comes to wax. It wears off gradually and it's not like there's too much of a problem if it's not waxed. It just means that it won't last as long. The way I look at it as if it feels tacky, just make sure you got wax on the way. Rail Lube on the other hand is a little bit more important. It could affect accuracy if the rail is too dry.

do you take off the string of a compound crossbow ?
@Deathbybunjie7 жыл бұрын
+Austin Kolb you COULD have a shop do that in the off season but it's probably not necessary. It does relax the string and limbs but it's probably ok either way.

I always use the best String Wax and Rail lube From Bohning. Just recently Whilst servicing my 2 Recurve Xbows I somehow Lost my Lightning lube. I used simoniz cockpit shine. WOW what a difference in FPS ( and no Different effect to Serving After At least 60 Plus Shots ) That tin of Anti-static Spray Will last me a lifetime. Got a Lemony smell. but my Xbow Ain't no lemon. Just spray Some Into the lid and rub it on With Your finger Hope that Helps. Love your channel .PS give Bunjie a shine.

My manufacturer is horton. They're out of buisness. I have a Safari magnum compound crossbow.
@Deathbybunjie6 жыл бұрын
+Michael Estepp I know ten point bought horton, they don't support them with parts but maybe you can call ten point and ask questions? They might at least do that. Sorry I don't have more for you but good luck!

Death by Bunjie That's ok. I like your videos. I'm learning so much. I love guns, but now I love crossbows as well.

Do you think 150 pounds is good enough to kill deer or huge
@Deathbybunjie7 жыл бұрын
+Gary Taylor I believe 150 can do it with a proper shot, no problem. 150 is about the minimum but my 175 is plenty imo. I think the lack of a scope is a bigger concern but if you can consistently hit bullseyes with it at various distances you're probably ok.

Can you just get heavier limbs for you crossbow instead of retiring bunji

Not really an option, without changing power stroke it wouldn't make much difference, plus I don't want to modify it really

@@joshmason1003 don't worry about it killing a dear. At 400 feet per second that's almost half the speed of a 45 Calibur slug.it will kill....

Can i use ordinary wax?
@Deathbybunjie7 жыл бұрын
+Fran probably no... use the appropriate wax because it will be much softer and mold to the string a lot better. Once you try it you'll see the difference.
