My first part in a how to wheelie series. This is mainly for the 600cc range of bikes. For liter bikes you need to start in 2nd gear. Take these tips and go practice! :) I's got a facebook! Go like it! / doublet90t

For who wants to learn to wheelie, NEVER learn at very low speeds. Reason being... go about 17-22 mph starting. At these speeds, your wheels will act as gyro effect. Keeping a balance. At low speeds you only have body position to maintain your balance. You want them wheels spinning. A quarter won't stand upright on a table. But if you roll that bitch, it'll stand up till it slows below the gyro effect it needs to balance it's own weight. Good luck.

Great video. I have a pretty hefty modified and tuned R6 and I can power wheelie 1st gear around 30mph and 2nd pretty much whenever I give it a full twist over 4k rpms. This video helped me control those wheelies. It was an eye opener a week after I bought the bike and I finally gave it a good twist and almost 12 o clocked it. Working on some decent wheelies now. thanks for the video

Once you know how to wheelie, stop doing wheelies. Wheelies are like Russian roulette. You get caught and you lose your licence. You crash and you destroy your bike. You crash and you really hurt yourself or you die. Or you do a perfect wheelie and.... Well really nobody gives a shit.

i always had an issue with holding wheelies recently i found a new trick hahah i have yet to see a youtube video about it so im gona mention it. rpm shift power wheelies?...i recently met a guy who used to be a pro racer and oneday after hearing him speed away on his hp4 i listened to the sound noting the absence of the rpm drop off which would indicate a clutch shift curious i made a note to try shifting without disengaging the clutch. so here i was on a long stretch of highway accelerating in first gear hard hitting 12k rmp i ignored the clutch paddle and flicked my left foot up...the result was fuckin insane rpms droped and flew right back up so hard that i actually felt the rear suspension depress and spring right back forcing the front wheel up into a 10 o'clock position i held it for a good 1km playing out the 2nd gear rpms...i think its worth mentioning that this was played out between 100-160km/hr. but ye..clutchless shifting..does wheelies too and fuck is it fun.
@hudsonja10 жыл бұрын
Hopefully most people riding a sportbike would know that you can power shift, or shift without the clutch, while letting slightly off the throttle and shifting up, you can do the the same down shifting if you rev match... and it makes for a much smoother shift. even in street riding, you can shift without clutch it you blip tht throttle first, especially handy for drag racing.
@hudsonja10 жыл бұрын
although doing what you said is awful for the clutch, shifting up at full throttle... does the same job but at twice the "pay"
@alvarezah10 жыл бұрын
Joseph Hudson ye i have a class 1/6 licience here in canada it means i can drive just about anything on land i know in semi tractors rev matching makes shifting 18gears a breeze . as double clutching can become a pain especially when you're trying to gain speed relatively fast. i dunno just never really thought about applying it to a bike until i heard my buddy take off. that being said besides the fact that it is definitely bad for the clutch it is also incredibly dangerous. cause that front wheel doesnt fuck around when it starts comming up...then again it all depends on what rpm u do it at i guess
@hudsonja9 жыл бұрын
Also very true, if you shift at high rpm it can get messy lol but if you shift at a low enough rpm (maybe 4-9k) the change in power is much less noticable than shifting at, say, 10-12k..

Sweet Daddy Haha exactly man. I remember the first time i rode an r6. All my buddies are like dont give it to much throttle coming off a stop or dont give it too much throttle when you're speeding up because it won't seem like much at first but then it gets to those mid-high rpms its gonna fly on you. I have had my 2012 ZX6R for a year now (after advancing from a Ninja 250R) and finally decided to try wheelies after accidently doing one in 3rd gear at 75 kmh when I slipped the clutch and gunned it. I have watched a few videos for tips, but not until after watching this have I finally popped my first clutch wheelies in 1st today! The best one I got was about a foot high, but only for about 5 or 6 meters. I'm getting a cam soon, so will post some videos when I have that. Cheers!

freakbyparkour 50s are waayyyy lighter than actual motorcycles (not a roast, anything under 150ccs is legally a motor driven cycle). You can wheelie pocket bikes and small displacement dirt bikes easily due to their weight, it's significantly harder if you have a 600 pound bike that isnt a sportbike. It is dumb to ask if they can, because they obviously can, but this comparison is apples and oranges.

Great video for someone like me who is still in the beginner phase. I was practicing roll-on wheelies in 2nd gear because I felt that was less 'violent' when the bike comes up, but it doesn't come up high enough or I don't have enough power to get it higher once it's up (trying at around 30-40 mph in second gear, 2006 Yamaha R6). But I guess I'll get back to 1st gear wheelies and try to get comfortable with those first before moving onto second gear. Again, great video and thanks for the info!

I wanted to add something, and people may have already said this. But, I have a parallel twin 650 (Versys), and it does an easy power wheelie in 1st. It even has enough torque to pull straight up around 5 mph, although I don't recommend doing that because you can't use your throttle to land softly.
@ColtonB10 жыл бұрын
the versys has a higher center of gravity than most sportbikes. so wheelies easier. I owned the Ninja650r...same motor i believe just lower more sporty riding position. Even the 650r wasn't a full on sport riding position, lots of fun on that bike. The two brothers exhaust sounded great

I did the coolest wheelie you can do .. you pull out from the gas station as you x the road you open up a little and tickle the clutch lifting the front a foot while spinning the rear tire putting down a little rubber while the bike side strafe on the spinning rear, in to your intended lane. I only did it once by accident as I did not intend to side strafe, never thought about doing much wheelies after that, just not my thing. The bike was a Honda VF 1100 c, back in the 90ies lol Now I drive a Honda 125 xr and want to learn, just for the hell of it. So thanks for sharing :)

Learning to do controlled wheelies is a good thing actually. Once you learn exceptional limits of your bike, you'll ride a little more controlled. If you accidentally pop a wheelie shifting, you can stay cool and collected and safely set your bike down. So in my opinion wheelies are not all for showing off or having fun, it's also for learning how to fix a situation on the road

I appreciate the video boss! I’m picking up a bike this week, I have a long drive way so I’m gonna learn for next season. I’ve done a very power wheelies on accident on my old triumph 955i scared the living shit out of me the first couple times!

Thanks for this video! Very good advice. I got the front wheel up a lot easier than I have done for a long time. I did it 2 or 3 times as the bike was warming up. The engine would have been about 60 degrees. I tried it again when the engine got to 80 degrees and it just didn't want to come up. I kept doing it until my wrists were aching. There seems to be poor throttle response when I let the throttle and wind it up again before letting the clutch out. Or it could be the clutch slipping. I think I have a problem with engine valve adjustment, engine wear, bad oil causing clutch slip, throttle position sensor out of alignment or something else. I have adjusted the tick over, throttle cable, clutch to try to make things better but it hasn't. Fed up with this! Years of being able to get the front wheel up but lack of torque to allow me to move on to keeping it up. Any ideas what it could of be anyone? It's a Suzuki GSXR 600 k5 2005. Action needed I think!

I watch your video as a brush up just changed my sprocket and chain on my 93 zx6e as well as the plugs and wires got it running real smooth or as smooth as you can on a older bike with the old chain I watched ur video I got the wheel up maybe enough to knock over a pop can so the other day just kinda watched again and figured oh what the hell in first gear about 20mph 4k rpms so I did like you said pull clutch in rap up to about 6 k it came up a touch so slowed down again got it to about 18mph pulled clutch raped to about 6k fliped the clutch UP UP UP 45DEGREES not to bad but still havent gotten to ride it out. I itinally did this with my 99 cbr last year thats when i watched your video I was pretty amn close to 12 oclock my buddy was freaking out he was right next to me when I did it lol there fun still trying to chase it tho for some reason everytime I come up I end up letting the throttle roll back down. My throttle sticks so I have to physcally roll it myself (kinda acts as a cruise) it is a great vid man I dont have a shit load of gear basically my vynil coat mechanics gloves boots and jeans thats really it...oh im trying the 2 finger thing it does work alot smoother!! TY FOR THE GREAT VID MAN!

2ND GEAR CLUTCH UPS: he kinda said it but if i didnt already know how i dont think i would understand him. the point of gassing it before pulling in the clutch is to compress the rear suspension, so you have to be quick. this gets kinda complicated but it's much easier to get it up(meaning easier on the bike too). i think its a lot more complicated this way and you should get the feel of riding without the front end on the ground using the third way first, and then go on to legit wheelieing(??). and finally, IT'S ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUE, you can go from going through your suspensions leeway to getting the front end 4 feet up with the same amount of throttle.
@ezragreene33848 жыл бұрын
oh yeah, and dont be afraid to sit a little farther back and tug on the bars if you have to on the third way:) my sv does fine without pulling up if you get the second way right
@christopherkraemer7 жыл бұрын
I would recommend a larger rear tooth sprocket if you want to continue further your skills. Makes the bike easier to get up at slower speeds. also have your rear tire 3/4 inflated so the tire has less of a curved base and more of a wide base. This helps balance the bike a little easier for beginners.

Yes. My ttr will pull up in third. I don't have the skill to hold it there but I can pull it up. But a ttr250 is different. It's a dualsport style bike so higher centre of gravity, lighter, shorter gearing for more torque, may not be able to wheelie so easily on for example a CBR250R.
