XDL Champion Nick Apex and Ernie Vigil show us how the wheelie is done. Whether you're an aspiring stunter or a racer that just wants to know how to win a race in style. Obviously, riding motorcycles is a dangerous sport. Always wear the correct safety gear and never ride over your abilities.

READ THIS IF YOU ARE LEARNING TO POP WHEELIES firstly good video and nice advice guys! but i have to give everybody who are just learning to do wheelies an advice. when you are learning how to do wheelies, pop your bike up maybe 30-60cm or 1-2 foots and slam the rear brake and keep doing that until the "reflex" to hit your rear brake goes automaticlly. the rear brake is the only thing thats going to save you when you go past the balance point and freak out. i have almost crashed/crashed several times when i just started to do wheelies because i didnt start with the "reflex" to slam the rear brake and also if you are thinking about learning how to wheelie, just know that you are going to crash just like the guys in the video said, dont go around and think "naah i wont crash ill just take it easy. TRUST ME you will one day freak out and fall from you bike. a helmet and some gear doesnt make you look stupid (for anyone who thinks so) use it!! :)

when he mentioned that the bike goes weightless at balance point i remembered my first wheelie on my supermoto 2 years ago xD I had never seen a toturial just heard from friends and one day i was riding around. I found a spot where nobody was and no obsticles in the way. so i was like "okay...lets try it" First attempts didn't go well. I couldn't lift the bike up. So i got too agressive on the gas and before i knew, i had popped the bike up into balance point. I paniced...i didn't know what to since i didn't know how high the bike was because it REALLY FEELS WEIGHTLESS. i thought i was about to fall backwards and forgot the rearbreak. so i tried to slow down by leaving the gas...DON'T DO THAT. The motorcycle fell on the side and i tried to kick it up before i fell, but i couldn't kick it up high enough so it fell on the side again and landed on my knee and dragged me a few meters. Nothing serious had happened. My calf was black and blue from the impact, and my knee hurt like a bitch for a few weeks but nothing else. Just wanted to share my first wheelie story even if it is a bad one xD

I noticed the rear tyre especially on the road bike is on low pressure. That would also help pop a wheelie because of the increased traction. You should have pointed that out in your clip!

I noticed nobody mentioned tire pressure. If you drop your rear wheel pressure to about 30 psi you will be able to balance the side to side easier. Works for stoppies as well. It basically makes the tire have a flatter profile to the road riding more like you just had a rim. Just remember when running low pressure not to go to fast with it low under 100 mph. Cornering is greatly affected by having it so low. It will wash out on you. Good video. I got a cousin in law who loves to power up and always tries to tell me not to clutch it. Says it is more dangerous, LOL he has a GSXR1000 and I got a R6, for some reason I get up sooner and ride longer he just doesn't get it.

@Chhaaddd
@Chhaaddd 14 жыл бұрын
@jok79 That's personal preference. If your comfortable doing sitdowns, then it will probably be easier finding the balance point during sitdowns. However, when you do stand ups, you're raising your center of gravity. Which, to me, makes it easier to balance when your at the balance point. Also, when your doing stand ups, you can use your body more to help with lifting the front tire and balancing.

@DLDidier1 it depends on the bike. some 600cc bikes are ok in first gear I would do second gear 99% of the time while learning but if you ride a 1000cc second or third gear is a better option for wheelies because of how violent the front end can come up in first gear.

no, when you find the balance point you should just be able to hold the rpms still. It should all be done with throttle. The brake is for if you go over your balance point. He was making an example of how it works.

If you want to speed up and your in your wheelie do you pop the clutch again and go in the next gear instead of red lining it?
@Navs126
@Navs126 12 жыл бұрын
You have to pop the clutch as soon as you give the 1/4 turn crank to the throttle, meaning do it simultaneously, as one movement. You also have to forget about the fear of dropping the bike because if you don't. Your going to keep slipping the clutch like your doing now and not pop it like your suppose to.
@narcoz3
@narcoz3 12 жыл бұрын
You can power wheelie in higher gears, just give it a bit of throttle, enough to get the front off, lean back and find your balance point.
@Chhaaddd
@Chhaaddd 14 жыл бұрын
@jok79 Finding the balance point can be as scary as the first time pulling the wheel off the ground. I would highly recommend starting out on a 4 wheeler with a grab bar. Anyways, if your doing long wheelies but can't find the balance point, its because your front wheel isn't up enough. Your probably very slowly accelerating too while you wheelie. Balance point = front end will feel weightless and you won't be accelerating at all. Hope that helps. Remember to cover the brake AND THE CLUTCH

Is it easier/better to slip the clutch without closing the throttle or to close the throttle, pull in the clutch and then rev it up while letting the clutch out?
@paco111ification
@paco111ification 13 жыл бұрын
@paco111ification Start out at the bottom of the power band and instead of cracking the throttle wide open, make a fast yet smooth motion to open up the throttle. Now right before you do this lean forward and when you "roll" on the throttle pop yourself backwards. Also if you want to learn and have the bike come up smoother start in 2nd, more speed = slower throttle response. Also when you are coming down floor it at the last possible second to prevent head shake.

suppose you got 2stroke. just before the powerband hold the clutch a second or less while you hit the trhottle than you can wheelie out your gear, i put a 80cc cilinder on that way you can shift while eheeling
