All the videos that you have posted have been super helpful to even me. An old rider getting used to the dirt again. Thank you for finding an excellent way of communicating how to do everything! Do you ever do just single track trail riding? If so, any pointer there would be awesome! If you feel like coming to the desert near Joshua Tree to ride, I’d be happy to host ya.

After watching your videos, I think I've been riding wrong for the past 40 years! HA! No matter how old you are, there's still something to learn. My biggest regret is that I didn't learn all this when I was younger. Now I try some new stuff and I am out of breath by the 4th lap.

Pshh supercross whoops are evenly spaced and equal depth. Try any Florida sand trail when all of a sudden they get deeper then one decides to space itself 2' farther away just for a good time.

A gear up so the tire dosent brake loose. It helps prevent loosing drive? I rode whoops similar in size and minimized negative bike feed back by hitting 4th before the first whoop.

so you should be NOT squeezing with legs/knees to keep the bike able to basically use the footpegs as the fulcrum as it tilts forward and back?

Anybody out there a skier? I've been saying forever that good skiers really understand that "unlocking your hips" really means allowing your lower body to move independently from your upper body. Watch great mogul skiers to see this in action. Their legs are going nuts, loose and absorbing the bumps, while their torso stays completely quiet. This is demonstrated beautifully in this vid at 3:30 - doesn't he look like a skier? Great instruction in this one - thanks!!

AJ, do you let the natural motion of the bike going up and down move the throttle when the back tire hits? Or do you have to consciously twist when anticipating the back tire hitting?
@FatCat2Ez
@FatCat2Ez 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's consistent twist
@joeschmidt6597
@joeschmidt6597 Жыл бұрын
What no lol you don’t chop the throttle and twist every time you hit a whoop 😂 honestly the best advice is just commit and enter with enough entry speed so you skim the tops and squeeze the bike hard as you can with your legs standing up, with your weight slightly shifted to the back of the bike. Just commit and do not let off. You can practice by doing the first few and as you get better and more comfortable start progressively going further and further until you’re able to make it through the entire whoop section skimming the top. Good technique allows you to not only go faster if you have the balls to do it but it’s honestly safer even at high speeds when you have good riding technique and understand body position and weight distribution. Ryan Hughes has endless amounts of golden nuggets about technique on his channel. Check him out he is a former champion. Also study Jett and Hunter Lawerence’s technique and body position for different obstacles, they have perfect technique

FYI...here are the two reasons why the bike works better in a higher gear. #1 - Anti Squat. The tension in the chain, in combination with the bikes swing arm geometry, sprocket diameter, and pivot location, results in "anti-squat", or stiffening of the rear. You can read about this is Paul Thede's book. The lower the gear, the less the torque at the wheel, and the less chain tension. So a taller gear makes the rear softer for a given throttle. #2 - Response to throttle changes. Everyone tries to hold the same throttle...but no one does. With a lower gear, the changes in bike pitch if you modulate throttle will be greater, and that means a greater chance of the front dipping (which is bad) or rising (which is not bad...till the next whoop, where it becomes a bigger drop...which is really bad) are much greater. A higher give is basically more forgiving of mistakes.

@@AjCatanzaro personally if you are riding when its dark and cloudy or muggy out then turn hypersmooth off. The hypersmooth works off the light so its why if you ever watch people who ride woods its more shaky because there is not as much light for it to work. I mean most people dont watch in 4k and it also uses so much gb. Idk all the settings are up to you though. You could probably find videos of people explaining the settings

Do you have to hop when you are going to the whoops at first to help get the bike to set on top or are you just leaving the bike weighted as you go into the first few?
@AjCatanzaro
@AjCatanzaro 4 жыл бұрын
johnny ashcraft great question. You really should be leaving bike weighted. Although I have hit whoops before that essentially have no “setup” whoop, so in that case you do have to do a little bit of a preload and clutch to get the lift onto the top of them
