Easily the most informative video I've viewed for wicking. My wicks were burning WAY too fast and I was having to change them twice a day. I can already see a drastic improvement, so thanks very much for making this video. Wishing you the largest and full of flavour clouds, create your own mini ecosystem dude!

Thank You! You just saved my Kanger Dripbox from the garbage can! Well, not literally, but I was ready to give up on wicking coils and dripping and go back to the "out of the box ready to use in your non-drip tank" SubOhm .5 coils setup. I was using too much cotton "bacon" ( love that stuff!). I thought I was supposed to use one of those strips. The whole thing. I was pulling coils with the cotton, getting spit at with hot liquid while it popped and cracked...and the part of the wicking that was in the actual coils was blackish...unlike the exposed portions of the cotton. Your explanation and tutorial gave me much needed information and I am now squonking away happily!

Nice dude! I also got my first RDA, like a week after I started vaping. My Aramax Power coils got gunked up super fast from the mad hatter juice I was vaping, so I figured I'd be saving money by building my own coils I can just easily burn off. I got the cotton cord thing that says it's from 2mm to 3mm and wound a 2.5mm to accommodate it and it seems to be working okay? May have missed a hotspot, but it vapes great, much better than my Aramax Power did after it gunked up the coil on the first day of vaping. I think it wicks pretty well, no popping and it chucks huge clouds. Taste is alright too, but I've never tried a very good vape, so I don't know what I should set my goal too. Like, with all my vapes I tried (Phobia RDA+ Vaporesso revenger, Aramax Power and Nautilus 2 on top of my old KangerTech Kbox Mini I had laying around from when I first tried vaping 2 years ago and didn't like it because my tank kept leaking) I have never had anything past "yea I guess I can taste what it says on the box", my favorite one was probably some berry mix I originally had 2 years ago when I tried vaping for the first time, but I have to say, vaping this DIY Angel Cake on my phobia build it's pretty much spot on, which is a problem, because I love Angel Cake, but wouldn't eat a lot of it and every day, because it starts to taste sour, exactly like this e-juice does, so I can really taste the flavour, but I don't really like it that much. Might be a little sour because my coils are a little gunked up from the mad hatter donut juice. Anyway, I still feel like I don't really know how to wick properly, because I'm cheating with the premade stuff. Did get some squares though, so I can try a scottish wick, to really learn proper amounts etc.

Good tutorial! Seeing the 'what happens next comments', they're fair questions. Take your wicks down to the base of your RDA, and snip them at that length. Fluff them up, take off any excess, and when you're happy, tuck the thinned wicks into the well. Then juice up the cotton directly around and on the coils. Fire, and let the vapour come for a couple of fires. Repeat until you can see the wicks are starting to absorb all the juice, then drop some into the well. You want to see capillary action taking juice from the well all the way up the wicks to the coils. Enjoy!

I used to just cut my wicks to the diameter of my coils. The problem was that when i change my wicks i notice a white spot in the center meaning the coils werent saturated fully after a few days use. After trying your method im getting really good airflow with alot of flavor. Wicking really does play a role in the performance.

Some good info for me there. I’m having a hell of a nightmare learning curve with my first RTA. I vape Humble Smashmouth and Donkey Kahn and they’re so sugary that they were burning out my Uwell Crown 3 coils in sometimes literally ONE DAY! Most I ever got recently with the Crown 3 coils has been 3 days with Humble juice. So I went to the Kylin dual coil RTA. It all seemed so simple in the vape shop where an employee took lots of time to show me from A-Z everything to DIY. However, when it came time for me to DIY, it’s been one nightmare after another trying to get it right so that: 1) I don’t get leaking juice constantly and everywhere 2) I don’t get burnt hits & dry hits This video gave me so good food for thought, but what I really have yet to find is a KZfaq on the exact deck - Kylin dual coil (“Full Steam Ahead”) and how to wick it well enough that those two problems stop plaguing me. On my 6th attempt with new cotton and 3rd set of coils at this point. I’m using pre-made Clapton Fused 2 in 1 coils (and cutting them to fit, of course). And I’m using GetCotn.com (shoe lace end(s)) cotton. I just can’t seem to get it right. Any comment to help this newb (me) out would be tremendously appreciated...at times-so frustrated as I’m sure many of you have experienced. Also a link to any video any of you know of would be awesome too. I don’t know if KZfaq allows me to put my email in here, so I won’t for now. But any help would be such a relief if I could figure it out. I think it’s the wicking that is the main thing I’m doing wrong, but I’m sure it’s not the only thing, there’s probably some minor things I am not doing when I start all over. Have a great night, day...depending on your part of our wonderful world! Thank you in advance, M66

Mark McCabe hey I hear you, I was pretty much on my own at first trying to get it right. It sounds like a wicking problem and maybe you have the wattage up to high. It can burn it up if it's a dry burnt taste. Are you getting the tank inlets covered by the cotton? It can be a little tricky to get it so it hits well and doesn't leak.

Some good tips provided but you should have completed the wicking. How much to trim, apply e juice, fire it etc. I'm not sure who the intended audience would be for this tutorial. Anyone new would be left hanging with an incomplete process, Anyone experienced knows all this already. I am experienced with building on a rta and was looking for a tutorial for a rda. Guess I'll keep looking.

Kendo cotton is THE BEST cotton to use with Malaysian juices like Nasty juice btw. Unlike ALL other cottons, it doesn't disintegrate, go orange or burn after less than 2 days. Yeah it's a harder cotton to prime (it's water proof in till you prime it!) But watch their KZfaq tutorial and it's a breeze once you know how. You have to cover the coil with juice and then nudge the juice into the wick. Then coat the coil and surrounding cotton again before pulsing the coil. The heat turns the cotton from waterproof to massively absorbent, then you just keep pulsing, adding juice, pulsing and adding juice to the coil and wicks until the juice is sucked in right down to the wick tips. Hope this helps y'all

There's quite a few coils that this way is not the best way. Such as a staple coil, you need to do the Scottish wicking roll method the same for alien coils and almost every type of variations of framed staple coils and basically any coils that holds heat longer then your average coils, then you need to use more compact wicking such as the Scottish roll wicking method or the pancake wicking technique but when you have one of those girthy coils like I mentioned above its important the cotton is really thick and compact so that the cotton doesnt succumb to the heat and collapse the part of the cotton that's in the coil but is still able to wick efficiently without being too tight and cutting off juice to the coil causing you to get a dry hit. That's why sometimes when you go to re-wick. The cotton basically falls out the end of the coils is because that coil held more heat for longer periods and collapsed the cotton, basically it just burns right through it, it's because the cotton wasn't thick or compact enough to compensate for the extra heat the coil held, if that makes any sense. lolz sorry it's so long but it's useful information for getting your wicking just right for the kind of coils you're running and to know there's not just one way of wicking that will work for every type of build.
