Cutting edge of vaping methodology! Incredible channel mate.

For anyone who is wondering, this works for RTAs too! I only use MTL RTA tanks with 70/30 PG/VG, 1 om to .8 om round kanthal wire spaced. I searched for months and watched hundreds of youtube videos trying to figure out why I was getting popping, spit back, and leaking. I THOUGHT I was using what is considered a lot of cotton because so many of the vaping gurus out there preach how we shouldn't pack it in too tight. I watched this video and re wicked my tanks very tight, like I had to hold the coil to pull through. I also didn't remove the outside part off the Japanese cotton pad like so many say to do. I even pushed it into the wicking wells without fluffing, combing, or trimming. The whole time I was thinking that there is no way this is going to work. Well, so far it's working beautifully. I'm sitting here chain vaping with no dry hits and my tanks are no longer spitting at me. It also hasn't affected the amount of vapor or flavor in a negative way. I can't wait to see how these wicks hold up to a full day of vaping. Removing them isn't going to be easy, but wire is pretty cheap, I'll recoil if I have to, it's way better than dealing with juice on my hands and in my mouth. Thank you Morten, you saved me from so much frustration.

Awesome! Thanks for doing this video, and so quickly too. This has basically shown the results I've obtained through my own testing. More cotton is better, as long as you don't screw up your coil in the process of wicking, and as long as you don't do anything crazy like roll it super tight. (In my experience, rolling it makes it easier to get more cotton through the coil but doesn't perform nearly as well once you actually get to wicking it.) But overall, less cotton has always led to a higher tendency towards spitback. As you've pointed out in your other videos, some people must just enjoy the experience of getting spitback, misinterpreting it for flavor, but I find it completely undesirable. In videos by more advanced KZfaqrs, such as DJLsb Vapes, as well as tutorials by the coil builder m.terk, you can see a clear tendency towards a lot of cotton, and this was my inspiration in my own testing for going thicker and thicker despite my brain telling me "no, that's /way/ too much cotton!"

I just pulled and rewicked my drop rda. And made it as tight as I could, and I must agree Morten. I had to turn my wattage down from 120 to 100, still the clouds are better and the flavour is as good or slightly better. You good sir have earned yourself a new subscriber! I really liked your video. Its interesting to see the scientific experiment of the whole thing because people these days just make videos and say "you want to wick it tight, but not too tight" and although that's cool for the overall video, it doesn't really explain what that means. Just subbed here from the U.S.. you are pushing boundaries and informing the rest of us good job. I have always wicked tighter than most and get shit for it in shops but have always found that I can vape my wicks dry before having to reload while other tend to always keep wicks wet.

I can't thank you enough for this! I somehow never got the clue that more cotton means more material to soak liquid. I always thought that if you put more cotton it has not enough space between the cotton fibers because they are so jammed together in the coil, but I was so wrong with this. I have never ever seen someone actually test it out, just speaking about their experiences and not actual tests. It's such an easy thing to do and it makes so much sense, but I never came to the idea to test it like this. Thank you again Morten, just wicked my coils new and see there.. I can taste something without hot drops catapulting into my throat or burning my tongue.

I've started using this tighter wick technic recently. It works great with Aliens and Fused Claptons and reduces them poping like crazy lol. Keep up the great work man. :) And thanks for the info ;)

Excellent demo. I have always wicked my claptons very tightly to avoid splatter, good to know that I am not sacrificing juice flow

4 years late seeing this, I use geekvape zeus x with single alien coil at 38 watts, now rewicked using your method I'm down at 34 watts and getting more vapour and better taste than previously, so it works well, thank's.

After some real life testing, on a Tsunami RDA, to rule out coil placement issues, I had a bit of spatter, hotter vape and a lot more vape and flavor. I got back to the vapor and flavor I had before by going down 20% in effect (Watt), and the spatter was gone. So a tighter wick is more effective, or, as my realist son says; The coil is working truer to its capacity. We have deduced this evening, and we think we know how to explain the physics behind the stuff we observe. For now the benefit of a tight wick lies in saving energy, because I don't like spatter. I'll be back with more when the picture is clearer.

A lot of reviewer in the german area always say since while, " do it fluffy fluffy fluffy... ". I did that too, but I was never really satisfied with the result. I actually do sick my coils hard such as you suggest to the point that he's I have to hold the coil as I'm pulling the wick through. Now, as far as how long I keep the tails and how thick is totally dependent upon the rda of rta that I'm wicking. I'm going to finish your series on this today. This is why I always make the same 5 wrap 22g KA1 coil, the only coil that can withstand the force at which I shove-in highly compressed cotton.

Hello Morten, something hit me while watching you pull the rolled cotton apart. What if you made about 6-7 small rolls just like the saturated center and wicked with them? I feel like they could help the efficiency of the fibers. The spacing between them might have an effect as well.

What sorcery is this? Recently tried it on my pnp rba “for voopoo vinci x/ drag x” i am using the japanese cotton. Build is fused clapton 28g 6 wraps reading at 0.3ohm i did was wick it tight. Cut a a pad and rolled it so tight and inserted it. Then did not fluff the ends also. And it works like a charm! Before i usually vape at this build at 35-45 watts. Now only at 25 and same flavor no dry hits and chain vapes like a charm. Also less of a gunk issue! Now this is a great way to wick RBA or rta

Its simple. The harder you wick, the denser the cotton gets, therefore increasing capillary forces which will suck up the liquid much faster although the volume of liquid that gets sucked up will decrease a bit since you have a denser cotton which leaves less room for the liquid. Wicking hard is fine, as long as you dont force a 2cm wide strip of cotton through the coil

Ok does the brand matter?I'm torn between Kenda, Muji Japanese cotton,Bacon, bpmods cotton, which one should I go for?

Just spent a couple hours doing a lot of rewicking. 2 Aromamizer Supremes, 4 Aromamizer Supreme V2s a Wotofo Bravo RTA, 3 Boreas V2s and 2 Aromamizer v2s (older 22mm tank). I can confirm that this method really does work excellent. I used to peel off the outer layers and fluff the ends. When I rewicked I left all the layers on I wicked quite tightly and I disturbed the ends as little as possible. I am now getting a very saturated dense flavorful and much more satisfying vape. My coils are 26/36 Kanthal Claptons 7 wraps 3mm ID and come out about .48 ohms in most my tanks and I'm vaping them at 45 watts. The Bravo is 26/32 Claptons SS and about .35ohm. So I can confirm that this does work very well in different types of RTAs. Now I need to do this to my RDAs especially both my Drops which have Aliens and are very spitty.

Very interesting Oen! I’ve always liked my wicks super dense. The only problem I have found is sometimes moving the coil or touching it too much can bring some of those hotspots back, even after getting them all out originally. Thanks for taking the time to do this, super cool!

Wick hard! And then wick harder!! Just tried in my Kylin RTA, what a mind blowing difference! Yanked it through my 3mm dual coils. Cut and tucked. Perfecto, no splatter, loads of flavor.

What have you named your coils? Viking coils? Norse Coils? They are excellent, btw. Bra gjort!

I would try doing a time lapped video where you speed up the footage to see a more obvious difference between to different wicking styles and that would give a better description visually. I also have heard from other known builders that wicking a coil too tight can cause less wicking to the coil.

I Wick Tight so that I can just pull through the coil, looser wicks need replacing more often , Thin the very tips (5mm) and fluff only the ends (10mm), I can make my wicks last for weeks but prefer to change the once per week, Kendo Gold is my go to for my prefered 4mm dia coils made from round NI90 @ 0.09 - 0.12ohms

some ppl say a tight wick stops the juice travelling through the coil efficiently ? i myself would like to try tighter wicking methods but have always erred on the side of caution and wick where the cotton is easy to pull through yet has slight resistance.Im a new 3mth vaper and this is the first wicking test i have watched great work Morten newly subbed! :)

This makes me wonder which cotton is better: COTNThreads or Cotton Bacon. I've yet to use they bacon myself but COTNThreads wicks are HUGE and very fluffy.

Toight like a tiger! The difficulty is using tanks with smaller wick channels - what do you do with your excess cotton if you wick tight and don't fluff. Just cut diagonally?

I'm a big believer in tight wicking. Aside from anything else it seems to last longer since the centre doesn't collapse as easily. That said, it would have been interesting to see this experiment done with a more typical wick length, as you'd never have the tails that long on a typical RDA

Im sorry Oel but i have tried the method and for me i found that i had ten percent less flavor and some dry hits. Have you by chance seen the Scottish roll method. Works awesome. Check out a tutorial from rip Trippers I've used this method for a year now and full flavor and no dry hits. Try it and you'll see you can take hit after hit when thinking that cotton is dry but amazingly no dry hits. Highly recommended.

what about rtas i found and heard others say, with certain RTA to not wick tight through the coil wick more loosely

Guys remember to set your wattage down a bit now ..unless you like a harsh vape. Also remember that too much cotton will give you dry hits

This applies to RDTA too right? I mean I learned from most vids and tutes that RDTA wicks should be trimmed, thinned, fluffed, or whatever aside from the usual "not too tight not too loose". I just rewicked my 22mm avocado before watching this video but yeah, think I'll rewick it again now and try to do it this way. Thanks for this !!!

What if the wicks are pre-saturated? Will these methods perform the same? I think tighter wicks conduct liquid better, because there is less space to fill. If the space is already filled (cotton is saturated), the restriction will slow the re-saturation downt, won't it?

Maybe on a dripper it doesnt matter becaus there is more than engough juice, on a rta rdta etc if you wick to tight there is only cotton taste and you alter the capilary effect so much that no juice will flow

Wish you would have stated the BRAND of the Japanese Cotton. I have found there to be substantial differences between brands, with "Koh Gen Do" brand being the best. Especially when taking into account things like flavor neutrality, lack of bleaches (safety), and scorch resistance. I have found that "Koh Gen Do" is more likely to survive dry hits than other cheaper brands. It also has a cleaner taste and is the purest and safest JOC on the market. IMHO

Anybody out there tried it with a MTL tank? Like i.e. Siren 2? I tried it, vapes well but I'm totally insecure about the taste.

Bernoulli principals may play a role in that regard. You have lots of variables that would also go into the equation. Humidity, local temperature, Vg ratios used in eLiquid However, as you would know the question is always answered more correctly to the point of dry hits. Morten I have the dead rabbit and pulse 24 I follow your vids and tried to better my build from what I learned from u. But I gota tell u I'm using a peerless rda with some nano coils with 11 wraps I had nothing and the store gave them to me for free so idk even know what they are made from but this is better flavor than anything I've had or tried. Can u look into that one cuz it's really affordable

Its not that its thick...its because more spread...bigger edges...you can do with a thin one but make sure to spread wide the edges...the key is the edges...with thick cotton you will find black spot on the edges from liquid stuck...while the middle is way cleaner bcs of few liquid going there...

I rewicked using the recommended method on my mech squonker, its wicking so well now, the coil couldn't keep up. I can even see the liquid bubbling away. Impressive.

Thanks for the video, interesting! But (I'm sorry I feel I say a but each time I respond to your experiment, no offense.) I do think you should have done it differently: 1) coil should be in horizontal position because it is most of the time the case in RDA, and going vertical the liquid is more prompt to fight gravity by the time it soak up juice. 2) both side of the wick should be in contact with liquid, as in RDA. 3) your support interfere. So if I may suggest I do think the experiment will be more reflecting reality by simply change the way you made the platform, and the way you fix the coils.
