Love your videos I love using wood wicks and in this video using the the square jar what wood wick would you recommend or how many ? Thank you
@bandogbone3265
@bandogbone3265 3 жыл бұрын
If you form your two wicks into a double helix in the square container, all four corners are more likely to melt as the candle burns down. This can be accomplished by pouring many thin layers and twisting the wick holder a little after each layer solidifies and before pouring the next layer. It would be labor-intensive, so probably not commercially viable but maybe fun to make one or two for yourself, maybe even with rainbow colors.

I put my failed candles on a candle warmer until completely melted then pour the wax into an empty can (dog & cat food cans are always available in my house!😁), let it harden & throw it away. Right after I pour the wax into a can, I use extremely hot water to rinse as much residual wax out of the container, then use paper towels to finish cleaning it. Hot water & dish soap ensure it is completely cleaned.

I am watching a lot now because I like your deductive and experimental reasoning process, and am interested in how you pick which wax. This one was IGI 6006, which on paper sounds fine, but why not 6098 this time, or even the single pour production wax from Candles and Supplies, or the ubiquitous 646? What made you pick 6006? Well, really, what I'm asking is what makes you pick a given wax for a given project. I have seen others who tell us which wax, but not exactly why. Could you outline some characteristics from your experience? (Perhaps you have done this in your archives and I just haven't got there yet...) Mind you, I live in FLA, and it is already near 90 degrees here, so I have to think of melting points sometimes.

I have been making candles for years. I'm cheap, so I'll melt down stubs or candles that have tunneled, because the outer layer of was is harder than what actually burns in the melt pool. I've used paraffin and soy, some more successfully than others. I like wire cored wicks because they don't require a lot of support for when I pour into containers. Since they are difficult to find and braided cord available is made overseas, instructions aren't on the packages for the direction of the wick's weave for a clean burn. An upside down wick will produce mushrooms I was hoping you'd show the proper direction for the weave to stand in a base.

How do you recommend starting with your product? For example, should someone start out with like 2 basic candles, maybe 2 sizes/containers, 2 or 3 scents and just grow from there? Or should someone start with 5 or 6 scents, several size and container variations? I've been working towards starting a candle business for about 3 or 4 months now but im gettin REALLY getting hung up on this, cant make a decision and feel like its really holding me back! Help! Thank you!
@StandleyHandcrafted
@StandleyHandcrafted 4 жыл бұрын
I always recommend one jar, you will spend a lot of time finding the right wick so make it easy and stick to one at first. For scents I recommend 4-6 as a good starting point. You can hit all scent areas well with that many and cover all customer bases with food types, florals, woodys, fruity, fall, etc
Do you need to cure your soy candles? Is it BS or not?
