My granddaughter has been pulling since she was 11. She will be 18 this year and is still interested. We have won points several years in a row with a John Deere 720. I bought a 185 Allis and run it as stock for two years, Now I put a turbo on it and stripped it down to 5500#. So this year will be the learning curve all over again. I have some video on KZfaq of her pulling. I really enjoy your videos and advice on repairs.

I think those top link straps are the hidden success on that little ford. Guys around here install the top links and support them to the drawbar with irons. Lift the drawbar up with plenty of pressure. Your rear weight transfer is now on the top link mount on the 3pt system. Really makes a difference

soillife1 , in the 50s, my town field days used a stoneboat, and piled 100# bags of sand on the stone boat. When a farm tractor made a successful run... six or eight young farmers would quickly pile on 10 more bags... Watching the young men hustle to get the load on, made the event real exciting for everyone... the tractors back then were less than 60hp, and with those bags, you really could visualize the work that machine was doing.

You need to show us in these videos with a sled attached. I have heard that having the weight lower allows more transfer of power as well. If you are too high, you are reducing your weight on front tires, which affects the amount of power you have on rear wheels, effectively you are using much of your power lifting the front of the tractor. Also, I want to apologize for all the men out there that keep commenting on your looks and the things they want to do with you. It is really disappointing to see people act this way. It is no wonder that so many ladies no longer want to do Social Media posts or choose to read/comment. Thank you for your great work. (Happily married Christian man from Texas.)

@@kylewil12plays I tuned mine by Rachel's video on getting the most horse power from your F8N. I always burn high test (no-etholine) with a lead additive. It runs great with plenty of power for what it is. I think I would also try an octane booster like "RACE GAS" (if allowed) at a tractor pull.

Rachel...... Just be a little careful nothing breaks low down, you have stabiliser bars to your top link.. if you have a snap on the lower draw bar, the pull will be on your top link............ Pulling on the top link means your tractor nose will flip up and over crushing you... Take care from Wales... x

What classes does that 8n pull in? We've tried pulling ours off of a swinging drawbar in as close as our club allows and it did terrible wasn't transferring weight at all. So we've went back to the lift arms pulling from the factory location with adding weight to the front and it's been doing great. Can you do video on your wheelie bars for that 8n we've started pulling with a new club and would love to see your set-up.

I have a dumb question. I have a 1958 IH 350 UT. It has the wide front end, and the TA. Originally the hitch was supposed to work the Torque Amplifier. The harder it pulled, the more TA it would bring in. Who ever owned the tractor before me welded the unit so you have to work the TA lever yourself. I have talked to a lot of IH fans, and one of them had used this type of hitch, and said it never worked right, and that's why it was welded. Do you know anything about this option? I have a diagram how to put it together, and from that I could bring it back to stock, but I do see issues in the way the hitch was designed. I figure I could make one and work toward a hitch that would work fine. Like you said, I will have to raise the height to make it work right. I'd be interested in any input you, or any one else may have on these. Thanks and Smiles!
@akallio9000
@akallio9000 5 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, the TA was just a planetary gearset like in an automatic transmission, and didn't have any advantage over another gear in the regular transmission beyond being able to shift on the go without the use of a clutch. We had one on a W-450 diesel and it was worn out, when you threw the lever you simply ground to a halt.

It's all about leverage, with the position of the hitch. Do the 23 degree tires pull better than the factory tires? The 23 degree tread was originally developed for better wear on the road.
@akallio9000
@akallio9000 5 жыл бұрын
IIRC, the Firestone ads of the day touted the aggressive angle for greater traction made possible by more durable tire compounds, the older tires would have simply broken the lugs off if they'd been 23 degrees. Similarly, even older tires had the lugs actually interlock with each other for more support.

@@DanGingell no way! Is that really a possibility?
@cdjhyoung
@cdjhyoung 5 жыл бұрын
@@billfischer6464: Absolutely. Tractor pulling in the Ingham County area of Michigan almost mandates a stroked engine to be competitive. There is a local fellow that strokes M cranks as much as 3/4 inch, but that requires alot of machine work on the block to maintain clearance to the crank. Look at getting higher compression pistons also. Guys around here have run as high as 13:1 compression in these old tractors. But beware: the more horsepower you pull, the shorter the life of the engine. I was advised by a guy pulling a W-6 Internationals to only go to 95 hp on those engines if you want them to last more than one pulling season.

What's on the front for counter weight? These ford's flip over backwards kinda easy if the weight is hooked up high. My son flipped our jubilee over on top of himself last August, months in the hospital and the dental work is still ongoing.

@@DanGingell I appreciate the response. We weren't even pulling a weight sled, we were pulling my truck out of a rut and it happened fast. He is 15 so he healed up fast. I noticed that ford's have no real good hookup points low on the rear axle, they are high. I was also curious about any ideas you may have on a diy front end loader for a jubilee? I see alot of people in the forums asking about this as well. Thank you

The higher the hook up and the harder the tractor pulls gives more down pressure on the rear wheels giving more traction making it pull harder thus forth putting more down pressure on the wheels it's like a domino effect in your advantage just can get dangerous making the tractor want to flip over. One really should have wheelie bars when hooking just as or higher than the rear axle
