It's mind boggling that many raiding communities are elitists. I didn't raid a lot because of that. I could only go with my guild, and nobody in particular had anything outstanding to offer. After a few attempts I got the highest damage in the group as a scourge while according to benchmark other professions were much better at it. I was already making better stats on my 2nd raid than someone who had +15k AP, had full legendary and was raiding almost weekly as a scourge. And outside my guild I was frequently kicked out for not bringing meta. With my guild we defeated 10 raid bosses and we were having fun.

@@matenagy9244 The part that makes me laugh is the elitists in raids when it's fucking GW2, if it was harder content sure but it's basically a slightly longer normal mode raid from ff14 that any monkey can run. Once there's content comparable to p8s or how hard e8s was on release then sure but until then nahhh

@@matenagy9244 the origional gw1 community was much more accepting in this reguard. only a few areas did players actually run specific meta builds but gw2 drew in players from other mmo games which gw1 had actively went against the grain on in the past. as such i have played since launch and still run exotic gear and constantly duel players with max legendary food buff meta builds and win. but if i go to a raid or some kind of pve content lord help me if im not running things exactly how the meta dictates. basicly have not touched any side content since because anything like that in gw1 would have been a part of the story and it was perfectly accepted to run random builds and figure out a plan to win in gw1. I have no interest going out of my way to try some random "end game content" that has nothing to do with the story just to get preached at over my builds when i have been bending those builds over my knee since release. Part of the reason even pvp in gw2 is easier than gw1 is people just copy paste and use the same setups all the time. in gw1 you had to survive long enough to figure out what your opponent was working with and counter it. Gw2 you can look at someone and know exactly what is coming because there are very few if any curve balls. These same players think that npc monsters with set weaknesses and abilities are such a challenge or they want to farm gold so bad nothing else matters damb shame. wonder why 3 of the major guilds i came over with from gw1 left and never came back.

I'm still fairly new to raiding, but even in these early days I'm of the opinion that good support, consistent success with mechanics and general smoothness is always going to be more important than absolute raw DPS. This fine video clearly proves that this is the case, and I can definitely appreciate all the hard work that's so clearly gone into it (I was fortunate enough to witness some of the world record attempts live, including the sub-two hour run; they were glorious to watch). I can see this being very helpful to the GW2 raiding community in general.

Teapot, I totally agree with your point here. Many people undervalue defensive support because I think they tunnel vision on dps. But when I was learning I was always told "dead dps is no dps" which I think are good words to live by. Anyway, it was actually a blast to go sub 2 hrs the same day you posted the competition, thanks for hosting it!

I just finished the first part of my legendary armor achievements for raids which makes me I am happy and makes me wanna work to getting other wings done and finish up the armor and try for ring later. I am not usually a great dps but i am finding it fun with healbrand, I did quickness condibrand on xera and we did it in 3 runs but got through. now just need get my ingots for heart then fun of wing 4 to do which i only have complete up to samarog.

You don’t know what you’re missing. Yes, Raids are a little scary at first, mostly because you don’t want to make mistakes and let the other 9 players down, but as long as everybody knows that they are part of a training Raid, it’s not a problem. I suggest that you find a Raid training guild to join, and start enjoying Raids with the rest of us.

Damnit Teapot, you really always come up with the good vids! Love your approach to raiding, my two guilds are actually pretty casual (we cant clear raids yet, cause bosses like deimos or quadim still smash us in because we are learning mechanics) but we have some great support class players and can kill bosses every single week. This makes me want to bring up my tempest... im still trying to convince my raid leader to let me play but he is so set on having me play druid ^^ maybe i can squeeze it in in a training raid that we do for our newer players. I would really like to see the heal tempest potential myself, i actually never seen a tempest in any of my raids. Thanks for making a stand for non meta raidcomps :D!

The raiding community DRASTICALLY needs a mentality shift. KP is getting completely out of hand, sometimes PUGs demanding HUNDREDS of KP. Insanity! The meta is so mega stale despite a lot of classes being able to contribute just as much if not more unique things to a party, as you said with boon herald, tempest and chrono. It's such a shame.

I think it's interesting the way you go in on all the mechanics and science behind the fighting, and how you can process it and analize and make informed decisions. for me it's just like a foreign language that I can't seem to learn or process. It's frustrating cause I just can't fight well no matter how much I try to learn and improve, so I just can't get into end game contente. I use classes everybody complains are easy and op (necro/reaper/scrouge) and I still bad at it and struggle and die a lot, even though I'm trying to improve since ever, so it just makes it more frustrating. I guess my brain just doesn't work that way.

i always heard GW2 raiding isnt that hard but the real roadblock is finding a group without unrealistic demands or never having time to find a static training group. hopefully more content like this can slowly shift the perception of raiding to have less unrealistic standards of play and make the famed GW2 friendliness reflected in its raid scene too. maybe one day i can finally raid if the community is more tolerant of safe but slower builds. im at the mercy of PUGing group content since i dont have a reliable schedule so i just dont raid. FF14 beats GW2 here, i actually have gotten to raid in that game cause it makes PUGing so much easier and enforces party composition.

Sometimes there are some training groups in LFG, or people (like me) who asks only for "some kp". But yeah, a lot of people still ask A LOT just because they think the people joining will be better, but that's totally wrong. Even a guy with 3 kp can be better than a guy with 120 kp of the same boss. And I talk about KPs. I think LIs are a complete bullshit in term of experience. For me, it's just a material used in the legendary armor, and I don't understand how people can still ask for them...

I used to raid via training discord but stopped after not getting picked most of the time. (I like playing thief who can only dps and that role is always overfilled). I can't really pug either with these ridiculous kp requirements. I think it is up to anet really to do something with raid accessibility, it's naive to expect people to change their mentality and if anything it will only get worse.

I really liked to train with smaller training guilds, like Zexy. There isn't that many people joining, but always enough to fill the groups (or lfg fills the rest), so usually easy to get the spot, while still having the high training quality (discord voice explanations, etc) And yea, helps to have access to multiple roles and builds, and I think most builds will be able to get away with some safety variation (like Invigorating Precision on thief for self heal, or similar) even in regular runs. One just can't really alter stats too much, especially can't take toughness, as it interferes with tanking.

People think the potential damage is the real one, when in reality, it just isn't. When you have a more dps focused group, you spend a lot of time dodging and avoiding damage, while when in a group like this one, you can spend much more time attacking, and when you aren't, you are still doing sustain dmg with ccs. You need to be a machine to get to the true dmg potential, which is why in reality having a more defensive group like this one can have better results, or at least a much easier fight.

Yeah that is a really great summary of Teapot's point. Most people want to see big damage numbers but don't realize that you have to be alive to hit them and they aren't allowing any leeway by running bad boons or minimal healers.

It doesn't matter how important damage is. The only guild I found that runs raid trainings requires the player to deal 75% of the benchmark in the golem. I can barely do that for about a fifth of the time a fight with boss would last. The problem isn't the game, it's the players.

I'm thinking about returning to the game because of the new expansion, and one thing that for sure drove me away when I quit years ago was how it was perceived as though the endgame PvE content was balanced around everyone having berserker/viper gear (or their other variants). If we wiped or if we wiped with the fractal boss living at 10% health, the fingers would start pointing at people about DPS. Idk if it was metabattle or whatever the heck pushing this mentality, but it sucked. In other games it's fine, but with how annoying condis can get, the wacky RNG with the mechanics, it's nice to have a "cheese" or tanky setup available. I'm glad that more customization and "bring what you want to the team" is perhaps coming back to the forefront.

I know that it isnt important. But is the only metric mesurable in the game. Other metrics should be who is resiving more damage without die, whos buffing and supporting more, whos evading and blocking more, etc. I know that because when i play alone, some of my characters that do more damage sometimes die more. When you use gear with more power, presition and ferocity, you are dropping down your durability and vitability.

I didn't try raids, because expectations are too high. as long as people learn the bosses and know the mechanic stuff won't go downhill as fast. But if you limit the playpool by only choosing the claimed best possible setup you might still fail and waste more time until you get a run. I heard that raids aren't played that much anymore so raid elitist players are forced to abandon their principle or else they are no longer able to do the raids.
@antoinehanako3193

Actually, raids are still being played enough to always find a party (and then always can make own party on top of that). For first timers, the best option is to attend some scheduled training runs done by training guilds, as then you get time for included explanation, group of likeminded individuals who don't know everything yet, but also a trainer who can spot mistakes and give you the info you are missing at the moment. Though if you have 9 friends, just going in and learning on the fly is super nice experience as well. Training-guild runs do have advantage that you will have 2 hours or such of actually doing the stuff, compared to LFG made groups, where people might come and go a lot, so there is a lot of time waiting for more people.

No I absolutely wouldn't be less confident. Scourge was still OVERPOWERED at 29K DPS and the run wouldn't even be that much slower really maybe 10 minutes or so. Teapot u r giving newbies the wrong idea with that tile. Let me correct it. "Not doing big DPS is fine but doing decent dps is" Have you tried doing a raid with a group with an average of 6-8k dps? Go ahead and try it. If you are confident in your skills to complete the mechanics then yes its fine but dragging the fight will not only make it harder for newbies as it has a higher chance for them to fail mechanics and you are also giving your healer a hard time keeping everyone alive.

I'm totally for alternative compositions, but you're trying to prove that you can make things easier going off-meta while at the same time stacking broken classes. That doesn't help you to support your assumption. What you're showing is not "not going meta", there is the meta of capable and extremely organized speedrunners an there is the pugs meta. The fact that pugs in raid still didn't embrace completely the scourge meta doesn't mean it's not the best option right now, but just that people over there compared to the fractal crowd overestimate their ability way too much and prefer to stick to old strategies despite not being able pull them off efficently most of the times. The problem here is that you can't have the same results with EVERY class. Some will perform drastically worse. With scourge you basically play a dps class and have little to no changes in your build to accomodate for those cheesy runs. With other classes you would need way more variation, making it harder to organize in pugs. Also creating conditions that make you ignore mechanics is kinda sad, at some point what will be the difference in playing an autorun mmorrpg? In high end content we should be rewarded, I dare to say, highly rewarded (combat-wise) for respecting them. Phasing with bursts in fractals, abusing epidemic, stacking classes, spamming aegis, all of this is getting out of hand. How about making dodges and positioning really important instead? How about being carried more by the knowledge of the fight of each player instead of your party builds? I wouldn't consider myself elitist, I'm may even not be that good of a player, but to me it looks we're simply dumbing down the game. I want inclusivity, but I don't really like the way they're trying to achieve it. More levels of difficulty would be, imo, way better than creating mechanics and at the same time powecreeping things to the point that people can simply ignore them.

No I'm saying that people don't understand what meta even means. Meta is 'stacking broken classes' this is exactly what I say in the video, I've never claimed you should play off meta, if you want to win you SHOULD play meta! But what that is is very lost on people imo. This video in some respects presents 'the pug meta' stacking the most broken support builds that carry you with no opportunity cost. I am saying very directly in the video the exact opposite of what you think I said.
