You can win every battle by having an army composition of 75% archers, 25% melee. You can beat armies 4x your size.

My favorite cheese, besides cheddar, is all archers then the player goes and distracts their cavalry with a very fast horse.

this has been my tactic for my first play through. Its op when you have 25+ maxed imperial infantry meanwhile maxed vlandian crossbowmen utterly destroying everything. In fact - the vlandian sharpshooters are such good infantry you dont need to split any infantry off, they wreck horse melee and ranged on their own.

After playing bannerlord for a few hundred hours I thought your opinions were shit. After playing for thousands. I realize your wisdom, and subscribed.

My best strategy with 300 troops is to leave archers behind in loose formation, infantry on the front, loose formation. And me charging with cav and distracting enemy cav and archers while their inf are getting a rain of arrows then butchered by my inf. I fought with 380somehting against 6 to 7 hundred troops with extremely minimal casulties, like 10 dead infantry and 20-30 wounded in total.

Circle formation does the job to then i force the 2 cav units to clash into the people sreounding the formation before setting them on charge. I use circle cuz it seems to make your units want to defend extra harder as your bowmen tear the enemy up. And becouse your bowmen survive these battles most after a bit u get an army full of inf/bows that u can use as psuedo inf if need be

Yeah, although I appreciate the effort, when the enemy army has over 250 cav along with another 700 infantry against my force of 200, I don't really have a chance because of their cavalry

I was thinking of putting everything without shields (recruits, spears and two handed) into a separate command group and put them on the flanks. Will that work well?

So I was watching this and had the thought that the way you have the anti-cavalry infantry off to the sides of the bowmen is basically exactly what the AI does with Cavalry (group 3) when you delegate command. Which made me wonder if it would actually make sense for someone that likes to have AI handle their units to put the anti-cavalry infantry in group 3. And then I watched your video about the best cavalry units and you mentioned how part of why Khuzait Horse Archers perform so well even when only using melee is the way the AI makes them circle around the enemy and attack from behind. Which made me wonder if melee cavalry would perform better if you put also put them in the Horse Archer category. Would you be interested in experimenting around with stuff like that? About how to get the most out of units with delegate command and weird quirks that make certain units perform better if you put them in specific groups?

what about horse archer?? they always doing hit and run tactics that is especially annoying

I recently won a realistic mode 120 vs 600 battle... I was the 120, and all my units were upgraded steppe bandits, and some khan guards... safe to say, f1 + f3. I only lost 4 units, 10 wounded (5 being my companions/ brother and wife.) Most of the 600 I fought were tier 1 and 2 units, so they were butter to my charge.

this does seem like a high-cost kind of tactic tho

How would this work vs a Kuzait army that's almost all cavalry? would you skip the middle formation and just put them on the sides?

Take batanian fians they headshot alot means extra morale loss then when close charge iin 30 cav they all runUnlock extra morale loss on cav charges and as much extra damage u can get in archers

This is really good but I’d love to see it insitu. Having a pulse turns it from a mad melee to a turn based tactics game.

I currently find myself in a predicament where my 100 T4 cavalry + 50 T4 mounted archers are against 2700 ~T3ish troops (35% inf, 25% ranged, 25% cav, 15% mounted arch). Any way to cheese this on a desert or forest layout? I have a mix of Empire, Khuzait, and Aserai units while my enemy is mostly Aserai.

So if I fathom this right every battle if against an army of a comparable size, at least 30 percent infantry is going to be sacrificed as baits. Given that the elite infantry is pretty hard to bring up compared with archers (cuz the latter do not involve in heavy melee) the cost of this strategy would still be high though? Also if enemy army is composed more of horsemen (horse archers or shock calvary alike) and directly charges into the exposed archers in the rear with superior horses, this tactic would not have worked. (Just some random thought, I think AIs are kinda dumb so probably they wouldn’t do this)

Like other comments said, would cavalry be needed if they had more horse archers? ... If so would they serve a similar role like to the infantry on the flanks?

idsthis some kind of total war mod you have installed here? i mean how do you get this bird eye view?

I tried this tactic with every faction (mirror matches) in Custom Battle...and it does not work for Vlandians and Empire and works for Battanians, Asserai, Sturgians, and Khuzaits. It does not work for the empire, most likely because, in Custom Battles, imperial archers are extremely weak. For Vlandia, perhaps because Vlandia's swordsmen are unable to keep the enemy infantry for long.

What if you had a decent amount of cav and mounted archers how would you form Them

How do you go into that view? And also how do you split like that?

It's a bit cheesy, but nice. I wonder if two squares in front will work as well? Any way to get rid of enemy archers faster, or will they mostly do friendly fire anyway? Are Aserai Skirmishers decent enough as infantry? That would be nice if you don't want to cheese fians every game.

I tried it against vlandia as battania (brought along imperial archers) got my ass handed to me. Good strategy but it only works against balanced armies and vlandian armies consist of 30-40% cavalry.

1) what is the differences between Advance & Charge command? People said for Archer we should use Advance so that the Archer will try to keep distance and use their bow instead of moving forward and sheath their sword? Then how the effect to Cav & Inf. I do realize that sometimes my Cav dont do anything when i press Advance 2) And for the Square & Circle formation, which one is better? For me i saw that the CIrcle formation doesnt let your archers which are located inside to shoot outward (i guess maybe because of friendly fire), sadly the game AI mechanic doesn't have any mechanics such as to command them to put Rain of Arrow upward instead of shooting horizontally outward Or shooting through the gap of infratry wall 3) It is also annoying when NPC commanders told u to put Archers inside the Circle Inf. It doesnt have enough room for the Archers, and hard to gather them all in that very dense place. And I realize the Archers inside dont do anything other than just watching. Any tips for it? 4) How to retreat Inf but still make them to raise their shield facing toward the enemies during slowly running backward. Because I do realize that the Inf will lower their shield when i pressed Move to position Or Retreat command which made them got slaughtered 5) Is there anyways to order spikeman with shield to make the Spike Wall, to counter the charge of their Cav? 6) It is also better if you can give some info for different types of Formation such as Skein, Scatter vs. Loose, etc

I see he's using some sort of 'freeze time' mod. It wouldn't work against the khuzaits without it since their horse archers are attacking you four seconds into the battle.

Ya ive always found putting ur shields in square formation is always best. Just let them tank while everyone else kills. Works really well in captain mode on MP. I also found a strat that helped me alot too. Putting your entire infantry in loose formation. Having archers placed on "advance" cos if their on advance theyll basically just auto skirmish and retreat when they need to. Finally with cav, u just continuously have cav follow u into and out of the enemy inf as they approach. Kinda hard to explain it and make sense so i may make a video on it

I found F7 all groups then advance infantry works very well. Cav will guard both sides.

too many casualties. i normally fight 100 vs 600-700 and i win 98% of the time.
