You have done it again Fred! In my opinion this is great example of what an unbiased review should be about: the format is concise yet the content is rich, thorough and full of relevant information for those seeking to buy their next or first Wing. Many thanks for your work and generous contribution to the Sport. Which of the two wings you have tested recently from ENSIS (Score and Spin ) do you like best?

Hey Frederic, thank you!! 😃 The Score and the Spin have their own advantages. I have the Score in 4.0m and Spin in 4.6m so the comparison isn't really even. I'd say the score is better in stronger winds, but the Spin is more versatile in different conditions as it has the compact form. The Spin is definitely better for shorter riders. Stay safe.

Great review Fred! Have you tried the Spin with the solid boom at all ? they have one in 4.6 at my local shop and I'm tempted to buy it. I am small and light and riding waves is my goal!

Hey Simon, No haven't had the opportunity yet. But it looks very promising. I'm not sure there is any disadvantage of having a boom vs. handles. Most likely it is a personal preference, If you can pump it up and get a feel for it you will get a good enough idea if you like the boom or not. Obviously it works doing all sorts of freestyle moves. In my personal opinion after have ridden both the Spin and the Score more, i like the score more for wave riding and down wind riding. It has a bit more power and I find it more stable when I hold it behind me. My 2Cents! ;-)

Great review , i really rate the spins after testing the 4.6 I bought 2.6- 3.6 and the 4.6. So light and easy to handle , I’m 68kgs and the 4.6 gets me foiling on a 1280 HA foil in 10knts with a lot of effort but easier from 12knts. They felt totally different to the score, way less pressure on the arms and better top end. Also like you say they just hover flat in transitions. Not sure what the little carbon battens do on the trailing edge but the wings feel great all round !

Hey, thanks for watching. Great to hear you liked it. I especially like the compact form. And that equals easy handling. It has an impressive look as well. Excellent stuff from them! I think they have an ALUULA wing on test now. We'll see if that one makes the cut. Subscribe if you haven't already to see more videos. Stay safe! Where do you ride?

Light?? Really like your channel Fredric great job so far but please compare to other Wings on the market. The Ensis in 4.1qm is 2,6kg! For Wings without booms it is one of the heaviest Wing on the Market! Power? Yes superpowerful and great upwind Performance but please donˋt give it to light people it needs a powerful guy. There are so many better options for light riders. I testet a lot of wings for a wingfoilmag. this year. Please we all want to have fun on the water.

@@martinoeser1965 I wouldn’t get to hung up on physical weight , the spins feel light and balanced in use compared to other wings and that’s the real test.

Hey Martin, well there are other wings on the market that weigh less and others that weigh more. I only refer to my experience, and I have not experienced the Spin to be heavy. I hope I can review the Strike. As it is very light yet powerful. So, yes, there are many brands on the market, still to be tested 😃 Thanks for watching! Let me know which wings you have tested. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion about them. Cheers!

Nice video Fred! I am really concerned about fabric stretching and durability of the wings. Many wingers are changing their gear almost every season. I wonder if this is due to the loose of performance caused by the stretched canopy. Maybe a topic for a future video? I appreciate your work so much! Thanks!
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Job. Thank you!!! The stretching of the fabric is a reality, but I do not know how much it could be. As an observation, the Starboard wings V1. That I have seen around are very loose in the canopy. But I can't say for sure they weren't a bit loose from start...I will try to get a grip on this matter. A brilliant suggestion for a future video. Thanks! ;-)

The sport is changing so fast and the wings and foils are improving significantly each year. I think you are seeing the early adopters are just upgrading their gear to the latest and greatest.... but yes; the wings do loose some performance due to fabric stretching. But i have friends on Ensis v1 wings that are 2yrs+ old and they perform ok, but they have lost their taughtness.

I really struggled for my first season to get up on foil using an old second Cabrinha wing not realising how bad it was until I tried a new wing, so I can certainly vouch for how important it is that the canopy retains its shape over time.

@@dazcar54 Hi Darren, yes. And because the sport is so new we are not really sure how the material is affected by use and time. But we are learning. I guess if you a frequent rider you want to change wing yearly, to have the best possible material for great riding. Also with the new materials like Aluula and Ho’okipa we will probably get closer to wings that stays in shape when flying and less stretch so we can use them longer and they keep their performance. Where do you ride and with what material?

@@wingfoil_mallorca Thanks so much for replying Fred. I was at my wits end trying to get on foil when I swapped wings with a helpful winger which was an f one and instantly noticed a big difference. I then purchased a New Zealand made wing PPC and although still inexperienced have found it to be very well made and very powerful. I’m from Redcliffe near Brisbane Australia. Are we not truly blessed to be living near the Ocean !!

I'm a beginner with about 15-20h on the water. I'm looking for a second wing to my 5m Strike for stronger winds. How would you say this wing fares for beginners? I'm about 70kg and looking to use the 3.6m version in the 20knots winds.

Hey, I think you are right on target. A 3.5 m is a good compliment to a 5m wing.

@@wingfoil_mallorca Is there anything different about this one that would make it harder for beginners? I know they got the SPIN and SCORE and some other wings. Not really sure how that translates into handling or wind range or upwind capabilities and so on. Appreciate any thoughts you might have about this! :)
@wingfoil_mallorca
@wingfoil_mallorca Жыл бұрын
I’d say they the score is better for everyday handling and riding waves. The spin is a bit more compact and is a bit easier to manoeuvre but my experience it’s not as powerful and it is also less stable holding in the leading edge. They market the spin as perfect for jumps and spins and so on. If I’d buy a new Ensis it would be the score as it is more versatile. Hope that helps. I think the Score LE looks amazing and with the X-ply as the canopy it would be a really great wing as it would keep its shape better and longer. Good luck!

Hey, well. We did too in the beginning. We discovered that you have to be very good at getting the air out and roll up the wings tight. And then tuck them in close and tight to the strut and then fold the wing in three. With a gentle little squeeze they fit “easily” in the bag.
