I have a waterway pump that went bad PF-40-2n22c 2"wetend 230v 2speed got a new one from amazon PF-30-2n22m and it works good the wiring was different but it is running was not sure of the wiring so I seen your video on diagrams thank you!

Hi spa guys great video, I live in the UK just a quick question I have a 2 speed motor which has blown so I bought a 1 speed motor and wired it by putting the brown and black ( both 1 and 2 speed wires on previous motor) together but I'm not sure if it will blow the board? Thanks for the video. My pump was seized and humming so i bought new pump, installed j & j style connector as shown on old motor red high white common black low. Pump will not even turn on now, showing flo error like before. Doesn't trip breaker, and breaker was turned off when uninstalling and reinstalling pump so shouldn't be fuse. At this point, only thing i can think of would be fuse blown some how.

Thought I understood, but im confused. Followed what you said about hooking up the grn, red, blk and wht wires. Have a Marathon 230, I put the red as the hi and black as the low and then you mentioned something about on a Balboa its different. I didnt understand that and I must have also missed what to look for on the motor that tells me its a 2 speed. Anyways,... I hooked it all up. Filled with a garden hose through the filter housing and opened the air valves. Just have no idea if the pumps got primed. I have the filters out. Didnt want them in till I get new ones. turn on the hot tub. Code comes on Pr. prime mode, then goes into std mode and flashes temperature and then std repeatedly. Highest temp was 70 degrees. Then mode changed to Dr. Pressed any button to reset. Then it went to SLP solid and then after a little while, 5 minutes, it went to OHH. I have put in a brand new system from Balboa. I just cant get this tub to function correctly.

I have an arctic spa tub. It had yellow pumps, white water I believe, from factory. My pump #2 single speed pump all of a sudden cracked the impeller. So I bought a new wet end and installed it, bang, cracked the impeller again. This time I noticed the pump shaft spinning backwards.. So my local tub place sold me a Galaxy pump. They took the pump power plug off my old pump and put it on new one. I installed the new pump and it was running on low speed instead of high (it is a two speed pump). I never took the cover off to see how it was wired, old J single. I took a pic and sent it to the tech and he said I changed the white and black wire and I never touched it. So I reversed them with the same result. I followed the diagram to wire for high speed using the white as the common because that's what he told me, and when I plugged it in to the controller box it arced out at the box and melted one of the little prongs on the plug. What in the hell is going on??

Excellent explanation . My Jacuzzi has old controls with contactors and pneumatic switches. Maybe 30 years old. That 110v power on white wire really confused me. JJ plug reversed speed. Replaced motor, but somehow no slow speed(motor OK). Will replace solid state contactor. Maybe this is the problem. Anny suggestions? Does pomp will run low speed without water? Does low speed still runs on 220, or 120. I guess 220 low mps. What component giving lower amps?

Great video.. just missed the set up I have.. A 2 spd century AC motor. Dealer sold it to me to replace the single (high) speed pump that died.. but of course the wiring set up is different.. I only want to hook up to the high speed but it isnt marked as C, H, L as some are. Any help? /Thanks

Spa guy! Have a used royal hot tub. I fixed the leaks and when I turn it on it was making a humming noise I turned the impeller and it was good so I put a new capacitor on it and that didn't fix it so put a new pump on it and it's exact pump that was on there and now it's making same noise but it's kicking off when I turn it on!

@Spa Guy can you please help? I have a 1-speed motor in a 2004 caldera utopia geneva hot tub I'm replacing. The wiring diagram on the motor doesn't show where the black and white wires in the tub go. I know which 2 terminals on the motor, but it doesn't say which is which. One has a yellow wire with a black stripe attached to it, the other has a plain yellow wire. I look everywhere on google and can't find anything. This motor cost me $500 I don't want to ruin it by wiring it wrong. I figured out the other 2-speed motor and have wired it fine thanks to this video!

Hy spa guy. I have a mother here and don't know if it's a 1 speed or 2 speed. Its says voltage is 230/115 rpm- 3450 amps 8.0/16.0. It looks like its two speed but it only has 3 wires for power. Green, white and black on a amp plug. I need it to be a jj 2 speed plug. Is it possible to wire it like that? My tub is a vita spa l500 series it has two pumps.

Came across your very detailed video and appreciate your efforts. However, your suggested fix didn't quite work. I must be missing a step or two or three. Have a Waterway 48, Model # PF-10-2N11C4. Your video confirmed I had definitely had the pump wired wrong. I had black going to high and red going to low, which resulted in my pump only giving me low speed and a "clicking" sound when I attempt to switch to high with no result. I flipped the two wires, but now I only get high speed and the same "clicking" when attempting to switch to low. What gives? Could it be something else? Shouldn't be the pump since it's brand new. What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated. Is it safe to assume that if I can't resolve this and leave the spa on high, it will chewing up more electric?

Hey Spa Guy. I have a new XP2 jet motor that will not push water. I've tested it off the spa and it turns. Hook it up and it gets loud and trips off. Do I have the pump wired backwards? Black on high, White on Common, and green on ground. What am I missing? Thanks

ok i have a old catalina spa i'm going from the older style pump to a newer one and you show my current pump with the diagram that's label H C L but on my old one i have only a black white and green wire with a white jumper wire that i'm assuming is taking place of the red wire? my current old motor is an A.O. Smith my new one is an US motor wish i could post pics hopefully i don't have to purchase a new wiring harness those things are salty..thanks

I have an older morgan spa... two issues, the second pump is dead and ihave a 110v pump that is in new condiditon - can i use the two speed 220 as my main pump, and the 110v as my second? of course i would need to tie the white lead back to grounding block on GFI. Second, the Gecko controller is in great shape, but the up and down buttons are not working correctly, any way to test? thanks and love your vidoes and help J

Thank you Spa Guy! I have an older, 2-speed system, air buttons, with a J+J plug, 230v. You mention that in some of these older systems, the red and black are reversed. Well... I removed the wires from the old pump without taking note of the location for the red and black wires, and there is no schematic on the old motor! So now I'm in a pickle because I don't know if red is high speed or low speed. Is there any way to test this? If I wire it incorrectly, do I risk ruining the motor?

I have a Waterway Exec 56 220v 2sp like you show at 6:55. The pump works fine on low speed but most times when the spa switches to high speed, the pump will kick to high for a second and then stop, or it doesn't try kick to high at all, but there is still 220 volts between 1&2 (Common & High) so something inside the motor is an issue.. Could this be a CAP issue.. and would that be the one on the end (55-75uF) in the plastic casing, or the large one on top of the motor, or the centrifical switch? .. or something else..???

Hi Spa Guy...I know this is an old video but..my pump 2 on my hot tub...the connection at the plug in the box failed and I had to get a new plug. IT is a J&J plug 3 wire, red black white and ground. I figued I could just get the same plug and put the connections where they were. The black wire is connected to the pump but not connected to the board, is that ok? It is just taped off. The plug was fried. This was a brand new spa, it is as it came from the dealer, but it is several years old. Thanks

Hi Spa Guy, Great videos. I have replumbed and fixed an old 80s spa based on your videos. Well done. My old spa has a retro fit Spa Builder AP-1400 control/heater (230v). Had an old Magnetek 2 speed pump that kept blowing the start capacitor. Just replaced it with an Emerson 2 speed pump (1 of the pumps in your video). It’s wired correctly but the pump just goes on and off non stop when turned on. I can see water flowing out of the jets but it just cycles and won’t stay on. This happens when its calling for heat or not. I think there is something in the control unit doing this. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hello I have a crazy question, my dog jump into my tub then jump out. When she jumped out she land on the wire plug that goes it the hot tub 240v. Now my hot tub was only going on the low circulation speed and no high speed. Now I'm hearing a grinding. The tub is on 2 years old a strong spa. The way you are describing this could my dog loosened the red high speed wire. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I have a question I replaced my pump motor with one with exact same specs except my motor has 2 capacitors on the motor body. Following the GE Wiring (got from you) The pump turns on and runs for about 4-5min then kicks the main breaker. Pump is not hot but one of the capacitors is very hot. Does the wiring change from 1 to 2 capacitors?

I have a LX 2 speed pump, sadly the control panel button is broken. Can i make a extra switch for the high speed function? My worrie only is that the system will put low speed when i use high speed at the same time.

Can you please clear a confusion? I am putting back a 2-speed pump (Aqua-flow XP2) on a 115V circuit. You mentioned on this video that the Black wire on the 3-wire should be connected to the High speed terminal. But on your one other video where you spin the motor to use as a lathe, the black wire is connected to the Low speed terminal. I take that either way is correct but which is preferable. Sorry, the old wiring before the pump got disconnected was lost.

I want to run the pump on high speed for about 8 hrs to make sure some fix a leak gets run through all the jet lines. This is a two-speed 240v system. Can I just use a jumper wire from the high-speed connector to the middle/neutral wire to push a full 240 v to the pump until I pull the jumper off. Will this hurt any circuitry on the board?

Converting a 240v to 120v. L-60 vita spa. Switched the jumper and changed the setting on the spa side panel to s-0 for 110v operation. Pump goes slow and motor gets hot. Have a P1 fault on diagnosis test. Do I have to rewire the pump? Or install a 120 volt motor pump assy? Please help.

Question. My pump runs fine on low. When it kicks into high it humms and the board clicks into protection mode. I notice that the low and high wires are both energized at 120v when the pump is on high. I can take the low lead and put it on the high terminal and it runs in high just fine. But if both the low and high leads are connected at the same time and it switches to high it trips out... Any ideas?

Hey Spa guy, So my old executive 56 two speed motor had a white wire on #1, red wire on #2 and black on (it shows #3 or #4 on the same connector) My new executive 56 has H, C and L instead of numbers. I wired black on L, white on C and red on H. It only has a a single speed and runs on slow only. How should it be wired to get my two speeds back? Thanks. I have a Cal Spa Hot tub with three pumps. Two in the front and one in the back. The back pump needed replacing and I acquired a new motor with four wires. Black, Red, white, and green. So I tried to replace my hot tub motor, but now neither the old or new one turn on. I hear the solenoid click and there are no error codes on the topside panel, but the motor does nothing. When I test with a multimeter, there is 240 going into the spa pack as expected, and at the motor, each of the three wires have 120v when tested with ground. Those values don't change at all no matter the setting the hot tub is set to. Any ideas?

I have a Master Spa Concord 3 person from 2005. The motor is dying and according to Master Spa the replacement is $560 for a 3.6hp 2 speed motor. So my pump question....I connected my 230v Waterway 3721621-1D Executive 4HP 2SP pump replacing a gecko pump. The Exec shows H on top C in the middle and L at the bottom. Under normal operation, my pump will turn on circulation on its own. Since I wired the Exec up when circulation comes on the high speed jets come on. In theory I can swap the red and black wires and it should work properly correct? I'm just paranoid of frying the $300+ pump or my spa board. I just want to make sure because I saved by doing this myself but it just goes to show that sometimes you should hire the professionals!! I was an avionics technician for four years way back in the day so I understand at least the basics of electronic and electricity.

Hi. My spa pump is 2 years old and is loud so I'm replacing it. (56WUA400-2/6) Wanted to ask if I can leave the wet end pump section in place while replacing the motor end so I don't have to drain the hot tub. Seems possible to me. Any advice?
