Thanks for watch guys! In this video I decided to give you guys a tutorial on how to customize your boat steering wheel with paracord. It's honestly pretty easy to do, just make sure you stay organized. This whole wrap took me about an hour in a half, but was well worth it if you ask me.

I have used a sock to organize up to 100' of paracord. Feed the cord into the sock until full and then use a small bit of cord to cinch up the top of the sock with the tag end of the cord sticking out. This should make managing the cord much easier. Great job!

The normal size on amazon. Think it was 100’

The sock is great idea. I made a spool with a short piece of 1/2” pvc and a couple of tees. But however you do it, it works best if you have a way to control the cord. Save a lot of frustration.

Thanks for the tutorial. Just finished my jeep steering wheel. It was deteriorating and I didn't want a cheap wheel cover. Take your time and wrap it tight so it doesn't slide around on the wheel.

I hate to buy & use steering wheel covers. They never stay snug enough or their to damn tight to put on. When you do get it on after a couple of days it's real loose around the wheel.

Great idea. I'm thinking that one of the reasons for wrapping your wheel would be to have all of that cord available in an emergency. The only issue I see is the time it would take to unwrap it so you could use it. There is a different looping pattern that would enable you to unwrap the wheel in a couple of seconds. There are videos showing that wrap. I have wrapped my steering wheel and the entry handles in my truck. Looks good and I have a lot of cord available quickly.

Nice! I have a question, what do you do when you get to the spokes in the steering wheel? Do you stop and start all over again or take it across the spoke Hide that strand on the backside, and keep going on the other side?
@CaptChrisCanning
@CaptChrisCanning 7 жыл бұрын
David T Thanks for the question, David! You go right under the spoke and keep going like you have been. Very simple! 😋

I saw a different video with same technique. Said that it took about 85 feet for a standard 15" wheel. I'm sure that will vary depending on the thickness of the steering wheel.

@prestonwalter8508
@prestonwalter8508 4 жыл бұрын
Chris Canning it took about 1.5 -2 hours, I got hung up at the first wheel support as I wasn’t doing the over/under correct, but after that and getting the next section started, took a water break, then got going again. Did keep the paracord on the plastics thing it came on and helped a lot. Can’t post a pic but it looks awesome.

Instead of doing "over, under, over, under", try doing just "overs". You end up with half hitches that form a spiral pattern. That technique is called French Hitching, aka Spiral Hitching. There are numerous videos on YT on this and coxcombing.

any chance you could show how to wrap with two colors?
@CaptChrisCanning
@CaptChrisCanning 7 жыл бұрын
For sure! I'll explain I shortly here, first you can either get the multi colored paracord; or two you can start and end the wrap where ever you want with the cutting the tag and burning technique. Then start a new color where you ended the other. Thanks for the comment! I will make a video on this, though.
