Panic!at the Chemical Green Fall Out Pilot at least with drums, it sort of works because you can't really play out of key, and as long as its and actual solo with no one else playing, staying perfectly in time isn't absolutely necessary, just as long as you signal for the rest of the band to come back in on time.

I am a drummer and I saw this as something that can be very humbling to all drummers playing with people. I get the frustration of wanting to play your own thing but you own thing should fit the context of the song. If the solo was just a solo not in a song then pretty almost anything is free game. I hate when other band members tell me how to play the drums but we do need to be able to play with the music.

Im a drummer too and i tell you that 95% of drummers when they are given freedom, they all play the same roll (RLRKKRLRKKRLRKKRLRKKLRKKRLKK PSSSS) and it doesnt fit anything but metal. Show your bandmates some dymanics, dont play 32nds all the time and they'll shut it.

I guess as a drummer I got lucky because everyone in the band decided I was the leader because I was the one with the most experience (although most of it was as a guitarist before I started drumming) but the real reason they made me the leader was because I was the only one who didn't want to be the leader. The funny thing was when they'd here me blast or play something that sounded like the beginning of 'Alone' by Arcturus the singer would say "Man we need to make a song that starts like that lol... The problem was we were not a metal band and I never put anything close to a blast beat in anything except for a very small part in the middle and end of the heaviest song and even then I did it and ended it so quickly no one would call it a blast beat. I did play a lot of slow double bass though because I could make it fit their riffs that sounded like Tool or whatever...

Septicemic because A7X drummer The Rev died so Portnoy took over to finish the album nightmare and their tour After that Portnoy was already replaced so he did a lot of moving around and he is now the drummer of sons of Apollo

Legion-_- LIG3R He wasn't replaced when he got back. Portnoy left the band after feeling the DT flame burning out. The original thought was that They would take a break, but the rest of DT dissagreed and so Portnoy left. After that he got replaced.
