Use these paragraph formulas to write your academic essay in 10-minutes or less. Don't stare at the page, trying to write sentences in your head. Instead, pull out these formulas and fill in the blanks. Let the formulas do the heavy lifting.
I've been teaching students to do this for over 20 years. Students don't lack ideas or words. They lack formulas that provide a built-in structure for academic essays.

@@peakdavidHi, do you read all the research paper before you start writing? I find it difficult to write essays as I read because I just end up paraphrasing everything which also includes citing everything and I end up with no original thoughts in my essay. What do I do?

Yes, I read and take notes on what I read. In the notes I speculate on how the research furthers my thinking and how it can be used. You should read first, write second. The only use for research is to support something you've already said in your own words.

Fantastic video, providing an overview of a formula that I will certainly start using to write my essays and blogs. One thing I'd like to point out, however, is phrases like "in sum" and "in conclusion" -- at least in my collegiate experience -- were always frowned upon. I would often leave them out altogether. The conclusion sentence in the body of David Taylor's example reads just as fine without the clichéd transitional phrase, "In sum."

I have a question regarding this: The sources you showed, is that all that’s needed, or should more complete info regarding sources be listed as footnotes at each page’s bottom, or at the end of the paper-this format only listing the raised number at the mentioned site within the essay?
