How to make an interesting mc: Think of your classic boring mc. Now think of an interesting cast of side characters. Then, what you have to do is to make your mc a side character and choose one of the side characters as a mc. And BOOM!

Shinji from eva is kind of different tbh, he is basic for a reason. The world set in is kind of crazy and unreachable to us, so I think he needs to be kinda vanilla. Anyway it is a deep jump through the rabbit hole with the depth of his character, just a slight thought. Thank you for the content! It’s a good starter pack for making a manga

Honestly, I kind of agree with you now that I think about it. It's been a while since I've seen and read Eva that I forget that he is kind of a stand in for normality (the viewer) in a chaotic world. Thank you for the insightful comment and support, I appreciate it!

I have this idea for a character who is almost the BLANKEST slate imaginable. This isn't just for people to allow themselves to put themselves in their shoes, but also to drive home a certain theme. The character is a nobody who has done just enough to get by but not enough to be noticed. He has an average home life, below average family, and everyone who did remember them fondly has died. One day, he escapes town after commiting a murder out of rage, and then he stumbles upon the other main character who is known throughout the country as a vicious vigilante, and this awakens something in the oc. The desire to be remembered, stand out, and not die forgotten. I don't know if making him a sort of blank slate is justified in this situation though. I'm still a beginner. Though I'm fairly confident in the idea

I'm new to the Anime/Manga world comics. So far from what I have been watching it's very interesting. I never read one single manga and I am deeply interested on how to write one with good dialogue and line deliveries... I need inspiration and practice story-telling technique everyday because I really want to publish one some day. This video helped a lot, so insightful with the info you discovered. Any more ideas and suggestions? I'm 22 like I said I never read a single Manga ever in my life and I barely getting into Anime when I should've gotten into it a long time ago when I was a kid. Missed out a lot, good thing Im into it now lol

Thank you for the insightful comment, I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of this! I'm glad to hear you're starting to get into the anime/manga fandom and have an interest in making comics/manga! For me, I found watching other creators to be the best learning tool. I'd recommend other art channels like Whytmanga, SaigamiProject, Jason Brubaker, and Mark Crilley! I'd also recommend you read Bakuman as your very first manga. It is also an anime, but the manga is a very good read. It's about two people who create a manga. It works pretty much like a textbook for people interested in making manga! Aside from that, I recommend just looking into writing tips in general. When I started, I remember googling story structure techniques, how to make relatable characters, etc. Just try and absorb as much information as you can! You don't necessarily need to read a ton of manga to make your own manga, the only pro I would say that comes with it is you'll get a better grasp for how visual information is presented. Most of the writing aspects though can be learned through online articles, youtube videos, and books if you really feel like reading (Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" and Araki's "The Art of Manga" are great reads. Hopefully, that helped, please let me know if you'd like me to go more in-depth with anything. Best of luck with your research, I wish you all the best!

I was thinking; how can let my audience know who's talking if overusing names is kinda gunna get annoying?
@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! If you are writing a script, then the character's name will always be listed on top of their dialogue If you are writing a light novel or novel then typically indicators like "X said, X yelled, X sang" are used. For novel format it is more acceptable to overuse character names

Could you go into more detail on speech patterns? Like more diverse examples side-by-side examples for comparisons and contrasts. I struggle with separating my writing and my speech patterns, but I don't want to write me, I want to write fantastical concepts instead. Also, not a fan of cussing, so I wouldn't include it regardless. I know that puts me at an uphill climb which is why diversifying speech patterns is important.

@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! There are plenty of ways to convey anger without curse words! I'd recommend studying some kids cartoons or tv shows any paying attention to their dialogue when they are angry. Some examples of substitutions I've seen are people saying lines like "That's SO Stinking Annoying!!" Or something similar haha. As long as you make it clear that your character is distressed, the words should flow naturally!

Alright, time to make my “before I watch the video” comment (I’m actually a minute into it but whatever xd) I’m pretty sure for the first tip, I’ve heard a similar one before (well not exactly similar but Markcrilley did say that his characters from his old series Akiko from the Planet Smoo do have unique speaking patterns). I should try to study speaking patterns from different medias though, but usually I just go off of the personality of my character. The main character in my series is smart, so (I’m not stereotyping guys please don’t kill me xd) I wanted her to have a more refined way of speaking. One of the main characters friend is what you would call a delinquent, so (watching playthroughs of “Persona”, a video game franchise has really helped me-examples being Junpei, Kanji, and Ryuji) I wanted to have more of a...country way of speaking? With things like (example): “We gotta do somethin’!” Anyway, back to the video xd Edit: I like my characters to have personality, but also be realistic at the same time. I like to think of them as if they were real people, which does seem extreme, but it helps me in the realistic aspect surprisingly xd
