Oh, there are several obstacles with my story. It's a bit like a span of a few generations. That kinda hop back and forth/semi-nonlinier. As some of my characters (Ming Hua and Tuung) arc is in the past, and the others (Lao and Tuung) in the present.

I have an idea, wrote down the list of events and and write the same dialogue and activities and how your character is going to perform those actions after or during those events and use this as reference.

I love character development in stories! it really shows events in a characters life and to see if they can develop for the best or for the worst, and I love studying character development in the animes/comics I read. Imma show my example for my main character's development but imma try to keep it vauge and may leave out information For the MP (Main Protagonist) he is an autistic character who doesn't like showing his emotions and is constantly under "a Netrual face". He doesn't understand his own emotions and well as others but we wants to learn how to. In the first book, he barely shows any emotions, very occasionally having a small smile or showing shock. The MP wanted to show his best friend that he does care about him so he ran off and did reckless thing, that he couldn't do. During that event he encountered the MA (Main Antagonist) this is the first time your presented with the MP feeling fear. True fear. And he almost died. Through out the second book, during his healing from his wounds, The MP meets three new people that joined his group and had to learn how to socialise with the different kind of people and trys learn that needing help is okay. Though sometimes he accadently offends them by being too blunt or blatant (even though he doesn't mean to) and he trys to learn how not to act that way and to be more sociable and respectful. A main example is that he learns how to talk to (let's call him H) H, which has a completely different personality than the MP and his best friend. One night, MP was having trouble with something and was crying (which the MP was confused why he was crying) and H came to his side to help him. H helped MP but he [MP] was confused why H, cared. It was harmless, why should he care about this? He [MP] thought. But H comforted him. His character development is basicly about emotional development, over coming his shyness/quietness, asking for help, and bigger developments (that I cannot mention because of spoilers) There's more for vol 2 and the rest of the books I'm planning but I don't wanna give too many spoilers The first volume isn't out yet (but is sketched out in a clean draft) and the second volume is being currently written in a script

My main character is trying to understand his powers while competing in a tournament, and his power is that he is the embodiment of rage thus having anger management problems. At the same time, he is looking for his parents and best friend who are missing. Over time he learns how to use his powers while managing his anger and in the process finds out the truth all the while trying to prevent himself form being sacrificed.

Thank you for the video 😸 Currently developing my character and I think that’s going well but I’m trying to figure out how to introduce a (second, not a harem) love interest. I have an idea of what the love interest needs to be for the mc but struggling with the love interest’s personality. I’m still going through your videos but would love to know how you’d handle that.

Thanks for watching!! 😊 I think it might be helpful to also give the love interest another role, apart from just being the love interest. That might give you more ideas on their personality. For example, as well as being a love interest, they might also be someone who can help the protagonist, fight alongside them, or maybe even be a conflict character that may also be secretly working for the villain. Consider what their other role might be, and this can help to make them stand out as a love interest!

How would you view a character who is aware of the changes they could have brought to themselves but intently deny them ? They could've become B but decided to remain A for better or worse. Would you say they're a failure of a character because they refuse to showcase character development ? Or rather, let me rephrase the meaning i'm trying to convey, at which point do you start considering a character to be "worst character ever" simply based on their character development history, regardless of the ideas shaping them ? How do you perceive inconsistencies within the character itself ? Let's suppose my character learned reckless use of fire can harm people and decided not to use it anymore in that manner. We skip 3 arcs worth of progression, they decide to act on a whim and miss by a hair to burn someone. Is "forgetting" a lesson learned in the past allowed for a fictional character ? If yes, does it have to be within circumstances or not ? Can a "lesson" be revisited but under another aspect ? I notice in some long running series that main characters are kind of "trapped" in character development going only forward and any development going against their past experiences is highly disliked. Once a lesson is considered "learned" by a character, does their likelyhood to make mistakes around it suddenly become zero ? I'm figuring out the narrative a character could follow and i'm trying to visualize the line in which people simply abandon all will to figure out a character and appreciate aspects of them. 🤔

No that's not a faliure of a character at all. In my opinion, this in itself is also a form of character development, but on a different scale. It's important to understand that by the character also choosing not to become character B, that in itself is a choice. And with that choice, it still may slightly change who they are as a character. By remaining as Character A, maybe they learn to accept themselves for who they are and understand themselves more. Even for a character that doesn't develop at all over the story, they can still be a good character. And in fact, some stories don't call for strong character development, and instead they might just focus on your character living their daily lives, and being who they are throughout the story. As for forgetting a lesson, that's also up to you and the story you're writing. If your character forgets something they learnt in the past, I think that also makes them realistic. It's natural for people to make mistakes or forget things, and it makes us human. Personally, I like the idea of showing when a character fails or has an error. But it's also important to note that with mistakes or errors, it doesn't mean that a character is going backwards in development. Because I think the best lessons of all are those that can be learnt through mistakes. 😊

@@midnightXcross Thank you for taking the time to read and answer to all of this. 😊 Reading comments over many fictions (games, animes, mangas) led me to think character development was mandatory to make a character likable. 😅

l think it should also be noted that not all development is positive. Sometimes a character can go from bad to worse for example, the Joker. Other times the character doesn't change themselves but they change the world around them.

Can I ask about how to make the character improve and but doesn't be perfect? Like I have a nervous character and I want him to controls his temper a little and does not curse, so does it a character development?

I just actually started writing a light novel, so could anyone please tell me where I could publish my stories online? and if I need to publish them as a whole volume or if it would be ok to publish them one chapter per week, I also have a few more questions tho so I would be glad if anyone would help me.❤

Some places you could upload it include Webnovel, Taptastic, RoyalRoad and Wattpad. Also, you don't have to publish it as a whole all at once, unless you want to. 😊 Most creators upload new chapters every week, every two weeks, or even every month.

Does it matter if you write digital or physical comics? I'm not sure if I want to work for Dark Horse or Image comics. I know Image gives all rights to the creator. But Dark Horse is more the kinda genre I'm looking for. Not really a super hero fan more a action-horror/fantasy. Like Hellboy, Monster Hunter International, Hellsing, and Soul Eater. I'm looking for a 21+ kinda comics.

How do i write a manga/anime that has multiple generations. This kind of trope is seen in Yu-Gi-Oh and Precure where it follows the same formula as the series intends but follows a whole new cast of characters with an occasional crossover

Of course! You should always do what you feel works best in your story. If it feels more natural for that character to develop quickly, then you should definitely do that. 😊
