Love the video and it definitely gave me more insight of my character writing. Currently working on a seinen style manga called "Mortal Compass". Set around the theme of philosophical ideas that are brought into reality as either physical or or astral enemies or allies. Story follows a young man who loses everything at a young age and grows apathetic towards life itself. It's inspired by Norse and Renaissance genres and folklore👍thanks for the tips!

Hey Monitor Comics, recently I read 2nd serving, and I found it refreshing to read. It was totally different from the other kinds of sports and battle manga I have read previously! The idea and plot is so interesting, and I love the characters you made and their backstories. The idea of competitive eating is so genius because everyone loves food and no one has ever done this kind of thing before. I'm only 13 years old but I want to be a manga artist someday, and I'm working to achieve that goal! I hope you make 2nd Serving into a manga series. I would definitely read it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment! I really appreciate it! Second Serving is definitely one of my favorite projects and I would love to make it into a longer series sometime in the future! Unfortunately, Saturday AM, the company who published that one shot, have me working on a completely different series for their new magazine! I hope you'll check my new manga out when it drops, I feel like I've improved so much since Second Serving lol. I'm happy to hear you are interested in getting into manga! I think I was also around your age when I started drawing comics seriously. As long as you keep practicing, researching, and putting out work, you'll improve quickly! Best of luck!!

Thank you for the video suggestion, I'll keep it in mind! As the previous reply mentioned, I believe to keep a long story constantly interesting, you need to focus on your work chapter by chapter. Make each chapter the best you can individually. By planning out interesting story arcs, conflicts, hype moments etc, you'll constantly be making each chapter better than the last! Don't get stuck on the "overall goal," storytelling is about the journey, not so much the destination!

I'm working on a comic called future 0, I'm currently on chapter 9 (the chapters are pretty long, so if it was short chapters I'd be near chapter 50) and the main characters arcs have all been finished, however I've been trying to work on the main protagonist since a lot of the time he's shaded out by the other characters, I have a good idea of where to take him and what the outcome of his characters gonna be, but since I've been so busy on the other main characters I haven't really fit him into the story that much, but that's gonna change when I start the sequal to future 0, 0 future, he's gonna go through massive character development, from a weak, timid character to a cold, heartless character, pushing away his friends because of his insecurities and becoming a character that's gonna leave a stain onto this comic, failing to save his mentor and losing to the monster that killed his mentors father, I'm so hyped for this comic and I'm really proud of how its turned out, I'm improving and all though I'm far away from becoming a true author (since I don't think I'm ready yet) I'm on the right path, and being a very recent fan of your channel, you've really helped see my comics in a new light!

not gona lie As someone who want to made An RPG game this tutorial or concept was what i needed, i already gathered some other videos too, but based on all of it including this everyone talk about the same concept but this one was more easier to digest lol anyway as for my game, its something of a mix of Fantasy World where Sword and Magic was a common thing, while its also a scifi where technologies Advances Complementing that Fantasy, problem here in my side was ballancing the plot of how heavly used the Guns of Technologies and Pure Magic and swords, especially since its also adopted intergalactic travel with open ending, since my plan was also made the game have other expansion storyline and comunities storyline(the world/map can be expanded and tge same also for NPCs)

In my manga, there will be new characters introduced every volume, so if I put both the new character and the main characters arc in one volume would that be too much? @MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! Honestly, I feel like you'll never 100% feel "ready." As Peter Parker told Miles Morales lol, it's a leap of faith. The same can be said about anything creative. The only way you will be able to improve and gain experience is by getting out there and making your comic, manga, novel etc The sooner you get started and get into the flow of things, the easier it becomes. I think I posted my first manga online when I was 14, and I put up like 5 chapters of it (roughly 100 pages) In the moment I thought it was amazing, but looking back I can see how bad it was lol But I don't regret doing that because I learned a lot and have made many more comics since then. That's why the motto of this channel is to always keep creating, because that's the secret to success. My advice for you would just be, plan enough that you don't feel completely in the dark. And also have somewhat of a connection to your work so you will enjoy making it. Other than that, there is never going to be a "right moment," you just need to get out there and take that leap! Best of luck!

My Protagonist Character Arc is slowley discovering how what she have believed her whole life wasn't as true as she was told. Yet not having an actual answer. I would like to explain my story properly, but too much info is needed xd So, to kinda summaries her Character Arc with no context, I'm gonna say she starts as this girl with strong belives, who thinks high of herself and the world she knows, with a racist tendency, and becomes a slef-councious individual who asks before shooting and is able to put everything in daubt without loosing track of her truth, being open minded by the end. I mean, the moral of the story is simple, but I like it xd

Hey I just found your channel and I just want to ask if I am able to make a manga I always wanted to but I always feel like I can’t I feel like I’m restricted because I don’t have and tools or the scanning thing to scan your manga. I also feel like my story and my characters aren’t good enough. I still haven’t given up yet though is there another way to make manga like on digital then print it out or something?
@MonitorComics
@MonitorComics 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to comment! Anybody can make a manga! Like anything else, it's a skill you can learn through practice! The first method you are thinking of is creating manga TRADITIONALLY. Basically, that means drawing on a piece of paper and then scanning it to add lettering. TO BE HONEST, that is VERY rare these days unless you're thinking about current artists who are like 40 years old or older. MANY people, myself included, make Manga COMPLETELY digitally. It's never been easier to create manga on your phone, on an iPad, or using a tablet plugged into your computer! The app I use for creating manga is Clip Studio Paint, but there are a TON of free alternatives like Krita, FireAlpaca, PaintToolSai, and IbisPaint! The EASIEST way to create art these days is DIGITALLY. It's also a lot cheaper drawing digitally because you have the power to ink, color, and letter professionally. You'll never have to buy more paper or pens either! Many people post their digital manga to sites like Webtoon or Tapastic! Once you have it done you could always print it later or try to have it published! I wouldn't worry about your art or characters being "good enough." Everyone starts somewhere. A TON of my early manga projects were pretty bad by my standard. I still pushed through and created several chapters though! There's nothing wrong with practice! You're going to scrape your knee along the way, but that's the only way you're going to improve and learn! The sooner you get started, the faster you will get better! There will never be a "perfect moment," Artists are ALWAYS going to think their work isn't good enough. So just jump right into it head first! Hope that helped! Best of luck!

This same problem happens to webcomic artists who wonder why nobody reads their work even though it is on webtoon I always tell people, it is not enough to simply post your work online, UNLESS you are a super talented artist that catches people's attention Most people NEED to be on social media to get their name out there

@@onemancomics Then the problem becomes how to grow a social media audience, which is difficult to answer Some people build an audience by having good artwork and posting fanart. Some people post helpful tips or tutorials. In theory its easy, you get people to support you on social media and they are more likely to buy your product The second thing I will say is I took a look at your amazon listing, and if I'm not mistaken you are charging $30 for a hardcover That is a marketting mistake. Most professionally published manga don't even cost that much. They range from $10-$14. Even 3-In-1 Omnibuses are around 20 bucks. Your cost is way too high, there is no incentive for the consumer to buy that over another book that is 1) professionally published 2) Higher quality and 3) cheaper

In manga, I feel like a chapter or two can go a long way to further develop the characters Even a slightly filler arc could do wonders for the story. I'm not trying to glorify filler though, especially in anime where it can be painfully long lol
