It's probably a Roman variation of it, seeing as how the majority of the Roman alphabet came from Greece's

@@moxine_ No, it’s an A. It has nothing to do with lambda, other than that they both are from originally triangle shaped letters.

In loan words from Greek, and it wasn’t used often as “C” was ALWAYS a hard C in Latin, whereas there wasn’t an equivalent sound for “Y”, so I doubt it would’ve been used very much in day to day script; even now K is still the least used letter in the Latin alphabet.

@@tfan2222 Isn't "K" more common in alphabets like German, Croat, and Polish? It seems that "K" is much more common outside of the English and Romance alphabets.

@@GurtBFroe1…I do apologize for being late. That aside, using the orthography for languages that came about significantly later in time is entirely irrelevant to the Romans, who didn’t use K because K was a Greek symbol that C made null. The reason C is used less in scripts such as German or Polish (aside from Polish being heavily influenced by Greek and Cyrillic…) is that C sound turned into an S sound in a variety of words.

@@tfan2222 I read somewhere that K, C, and Q had rules as to where they were used in Latin. K before A, Q before O and U, and C elsewhere.

Also, C represented both a K and hard G sound.
