What Tudor are is a manufacturer of good quality watches that have a different marketing strategy Rolex - and I am sure a tiny budget in comparison, but they use it smartly, creating demand through reviewers, influencers etc. and then supplying that demand with product in volume - probably every company in the world would see that as sound and smart marketing. "If you get a Tudor you will get hosed" - Mark, maybe take off your Rolex-shaped goggles for a minute and join the real world - most people should buy watches that they love and want to wear, not as a growth investment. I remember the day when you would purchase a watch to wear it, not to flaunt it. Yea most buy Tudor because they can’t get Rolex. But some but just because we want it. My Pelagos is 7 years old now and has never left my wrist. And I don’t consider it a Rolex in any way. I actually prefer it over the Rolex brand. Tudor is now what Rolex was 20 years ago.

Pre-owned Tudor prices in the USA are now equal to or slightly more than new MSRP. In addition, the build quality is equal to a comparable Rolex model. Tudors are certified chronometers and the GMT has a 70 hour power reserve. The only difference is the grade of stainless- 316 vs. 904, and who among my fellow Rolex/Tudor wearers can detect that difference? I own both so believe me when I say the Tudor is a tremendous value and equal in performance to a Rolex.

You should do your research too. Tudor is Rolex. All the workers in Geneva work for Rolex. There is no Tudor signe on the paycheck. Buying a premium watch for investment is the first mistake. With the exception of Rolex and some specific models from other brands most watches fall in value on the secondary market. Even buying a Rolex SS Sport at an elevated secondary market price can be disastrous. Your strategy for waiting out the hype of a new watch introduction is generally correct. That said if you buy a Tudor sport at a decent price you’ll never regret it

I sold my submariner because I felt uncomfortable wearing it. I realized my pelagos never left my wrist. Very understated and flies under the radar easily. Bought it used for a 3500.

I bought my BB58 black because I really liked it and is great bang per buck for a in house movement watch. I own Rolex and Omega and my BB58 gets the most wrist time..

I doubt anyone thinks Tudor is a Rolex, however a properly kept Tudor or any good quality watch that for a while has a name for it will rise in value when the model gets discontinued, and they do after 5-15 years, so enjoy your good quality watch for long term since that is why you bought it in the first place. I have 1 Omega and 1 Hamilton, but 4 Tissots. They are amazing pieces. All automatic watches. Tissot is the way to go in my humble opinion

I have the Tudor GMT. It’s a great watch if you have about a 7 inch wrist or up. Can wear it anywhere, rugged, lots of presence, charm (had a guy compare it to his dads old Rolex GMT), and 200M dive rating. Perfect sun travel (if we can ever do that again) / all round watch. I’m on wait list Rolex GMT to go with my Air King, not sure what I’ll do with the Tudor if I get it, any Tudor sort of fits a nice spot in a higher end collection as a luxury go anywhere / beater. As to value, I never saw it as a collectible, but I’m glad they hold their value way better than most other watches same price point (eg Breitling / Omega).

My view is you buy a watch because you like it. Period. In this sense I am happy Tudor produces enough watches for the demand. It’s ok with me that it isn’t owned by stuck up Rolex , actually I like that the same way that I like a Challenger Hemi more than a BMW. It’s the every man watch, but it’s the every cool man watch as well. In 2024 not so many men will pay $5000 for any watch. So if you buy a Tudor, be proud you accomplished something in life and you have enough self respect to get your time from a watch and not a phone.

I think the Pelagoes is one of there best offers next to the BB58 and BB36. I believe the Pelagoes has been a bit slightly overlooked But now that some people are starting to really admire it. I think it's very recently become way more popular and will be seen alot more in the coming future. I love the current Rolex Submariner like many do, but it can be a bit cumbersome and heavy etc for smaller wrists and in general so IMHO the Pelagoes serves a purpose and offers a great alternative to a Sub and may as a whole suit more for an everyday wearer for some . I feel like the square indices and hands give more of a subdued look and casual wear. The Rolex is a perfect everyday watch it is more of a luxury looking feeling tool watch and costs considerably more. The Pelagoes imho has purpose just like any good tool watch and I think it's a winner!

Rolex doesn't own Tudor, but they sure as hell make me feel welcome in their store when I go to get my Black Bay serviced.....until you tell them you want to buy a Submariner. Remember that scene from Austin Powers where the bad guys continually laugh? That was them when asking to buy a Submariner.

Fairly accurate analysis except that you missed mentioning an important point in my opinion. Tudor watches end up on the grey market not because their previous owners were unhappy or dissatisfied. They end up there because their previous owners got hooked on luxury watches and upgraded. They are entry level luxury watches and nothing gets you motivated to jump into the luxury watch market like a Tudor.

Had Rolex’s, don’t give the bastards your money and buy an Omega! They are far better watches too.

Well guys I have bought a BB in red and I wanted this watch and for me it is not a cheap substitute for Rolex. I preferred the Tudor over the Rolex and I still do. With a Tudor on your wrist you still fly under the radar what I like pretty much. But fortunately everyone can go for what he or she wants 👍

I purchased a tudor pelagos @ 9 months ago . I was shopping for a rolex batman or sub/date. that about 3 months after another AD - offered me the sub/date . 3 months after that - the original AD offered me a batman. the tudor was my first nice watch - now there is a small group. the tudor is my everyday watch. I think it is great, great color , great lum, great clasp . stay safe & healthy. ~ JDS/CT

Rolex is not an exclusive watch! They are everywhere…If you want high end and/or exclusive horology, then shoot for ultra-expensive watches like A. Lange & Sohne or F.P Journe (actually you may get some for less than the Daytona), or look for very affordable watches made by independent family owned small swiss companies - many treasures there for far less then Rolex prices but very limited production numbers. Differentiate yourself!

I have owned a rolex datejust 41mm and now own a yhatmaster 40 also an omega speedmaster and a tufor gmt . The only one I will never sell is the tudor. I have seen the rolex gmt it is totally different. LOVE THE SNOWFLAKE .

I think you're probably right - however, I see this as more a problem on the consumer side vs. producer. As I'm sure everyone here knows, Tudor was created to be an accessible luxury level watch - in this regard, nearly the anti-Rolex. If someone is buying a Tudor for exclusivity or future market value based on scarcity, they don't understand what Tudor is all about. In fact, if Tudor started restricting supply of their watches, they would be going against the very reason for their creation. I actually really admire this about Tudor. Rolex is starting to become almost ridiculously expensive and an almost exclusively gray market brand. While I own Rolex watches and love their design and quality, I am turned off by their lack of supply to AD's and would never pay gray market prices for their watches. Thanks Marc!

I bought my Tudor Black Bay 39mm in the anthracite dial because I was looking for the following things: - a watch that looks good and, more importantly, looks good on me (39mm is perfect) - a well-made watch that is comfortable and has micro-adjustments. - In my budget of around 4k I also didn't care about the following things: - brand prestige. - making money through reselling it later. So, for me, it was a no-brainer.

I've got both Tudor and Rolex..... Tudor quality is not very far off Rolex I reckon.... (with that said - the Rolex bracelets are better). ... Tudor BB are not that easy to get... and from what I see - the values are not dropping much at all at the greys..

Rolex is a MARKETING company that manufactures wrist watches - it would stand to reason that some of that prowess would at the very least rub off. Even "micro brands" launch trial balloons and adjust the price later on depending on how popular a model is. I love Tudor because it's not Rolex but has a lot of what makes a watch a very good watch.

You can get a Rolex, any model anytime, you just gotta pay more!

As another Chicago area local I can confirm that BB58's are available at most AD's, or at most a few weeks wait if you want them on bracelet. I did get suckered into the 58 Blue hype and was able to buy one first day, but have since replaced it with a Pelagos which fits more of my personal preferences.

Young people will get used to wearing Tudors and will have an attachment to them and in 20 or 30 years they will be wanting Tudors, not Rolexes.

Only reason I buy a watch is because I love it . Then if I can afford it I buy it new , I don’t worry about resale values as I’ve no intention of selling any watch that I love . Tudor are a great quality brand and well worth their ticket price .

It may be the strategy from Tudor to provide a shortage at the beginning, i said it may be because we have to think in another way that every single new product from different brands and different business, the production line may not be very well to produce it in an acceptable quality. Therefore they need to rectify the production line as well as the suppliers to have the product up to the standard for their customers. That’s why shortage in supply at the beginning. Watch, especially those hand made in house calibre, that even require much much higher quality than we could think of. As the manufacturer needs to ensure the daily tolerance to be within a certain period of seconds, the case and the bracelet must have the same kind of brightness for this batch and the next batch ..... it takes time.

Their bracelets make me cringe. All of their marketing is put into one design (black bay) which doesn't hold value. Lastly you put it best "you settle for Tudor". Tudor gmt in the pepsi colors was a big mistake. It simply points out all the intricacy you get with a Rolex that's missing. Rant over lol

Jokes on them. I wanted a Tudor GMT....So I got one. I don't care about exclusivity or coolness. I'm very lucky in that everything I wear is cool by default and if it was uncool before, it becomes cool when I start wearing it. It's a blessing, I know. Makes things so simple for me. ;-)

Did you know all tudor inventory is tracked by rolex sa? The whole tudor backend on inventory control is done by rolex IT. Check some of your sources. The 5612 architecture is based to the 3135 rolex movement. The tudor silicone hairspring is made using rolex semi conductor machines. So they are joined at the hip.

I want the sellers to thank me for purchasing their products, not the other way around. No commercial merchandises are that worthwhile. Wake up, open your eyes, and look around. Spend your time and money on something more meaningful than Rolex.

Hans Wilsdorf made Tudor and made Rolex both company are owned by their foundation. Quality watches both. No one tricked us to buy Tudor. Someone drops 10k for Rolex someone drops 6K for Tudor all on preference and budget.

Dude, at least in Greece where I live it’s a real shortage of watches. I went to an A.D and a very reputable A.D in fact and they really did have a shortage of Tudor watches

I have two Tudors and I got them because I liked them, not because they are exclusive (they clearly are not). I really like the bracelet, clasp and feel/height/balance of the case.

I would add: Don't buy a Tudor when what you really want is the "corresponding" Rolex model. You'll probably end up disappointed. Buy the Tudor because you want that Tudor. I would also add that on some models, they (or their ADs?) seem to treat these things a bit like Rolex watches. When I inquired about the black BB58, I was told there was a waiting list for that model. The blue version had just come out at the time and the AD was trying to nudge me towards that one, despite me telling him twice that I was only interested in the black model. I haven't spoken to any Tudor ADs in a while, but I would imagine that if I went and tried to buy the BB54 now in April 2023, I'd also be told there were waiting lists for that one.

I have a Tudor Prince black dial manufactured in 83. Sorta like a DateJust 1600. Many Rolex parts on it, crown is a Rolex, Backplate is even all Rolex engraved…got it for 1200$ 5 years ago and now they go for almost twice the price. The factory moved around the mid 80s. So i guess the question is more is it a vintage Tudor or new Tudor? Which the later seem to clearly not cary Rolex parts…

Tudor and Rolex are two different tiers of Swiss automatic watches, both are mechanically sound and reliable products, and you get what you pay for. But when you buy Rolex, you are buying a Swiss watch, and you are buying the Rolex name. With Tudor it's simply the watch you are getting, and they are great watches. I will also add that Tissot is also a great Swiss watch that those that can't swallow the Tissot price can get a great Swiss watch from Tissot. So, depending on how much you have in disposable income, you can go Rolex or for less Tudor or for less Tissot and you are getting a great watch in each instance.

submariner was always my dream watch, a workhorse with great heritage always wanted to buy ine than I finally got the opportunity and than I found out the black bay 58 bronze needless to say I fell in love I don't care if it wouldn't hold it's value nearly as well as a submariner it looked so special, and you're telling me it would oxidize in a totally unique way only for what watch? it's so beautiful, I rock it every day, and I never regretted my decision to not go with a submariner

They call the new releases “allocation” pieces. Yes you are correct they then flood the market with them. Good example is the BB58 Blue dial. Was super hot and now is on display at every AD I visit. I’d say you can get a 10% discount at minimum

Being a tech and watch guy I think you are pretty accurate in the assessments made. In my mind I immediately replaced Tudor with IPhone every time you said Tudor and it was a similar conversation, especially a few years back with Apple and the long lines for an iPhone launch. I wouldn’t do it then and won’t do it now, paying over retail that is. I paid 3k each for both my Tudors, a GMT and a P01.

There is a lot of demand for the black bay 58 (black dial/bezel) and there is an actual shortage for these models. Every single AD I called told me I had to wait at least 4-6 months for one to arrive. And I'm not surprised at all, the black bay 58 feels like a vintage piece. Vintage combined with modern parts, making it a perfect watch imo.

They don't put Rolex movement in a Tudor. Tudor has its own movements and Rolex has its own. And there's no discount on Tudor. Tudor and Rolex don't offer discounts. It's the same brand making 2 types of watch category. Exactly like Seiko does 200 USD watches and 5000. Only Rolex decided to name it Tudor and Rolex. Since they are manufactured in the same factory, it's the same freaking watch. TUDOR IS ROLEX. Seiko and Grand Seiko. Tudor and Rolex. Get it now? Have a look at a Seiko Alpinist. It's well made. And it isn't a grand Seiko and it's cheaper than a Tudor. Tudor is not a cheap company that produces watches for the masses. And they don't trick you into buying shit. I haven't seen a Tudor commercial in my entire life. If they wanted to trick you they would've named it Rolex. To make you believe you bought one. I spoke with a guy who sells watches. He's got a lot of watches. He sells seikos too. I asked him why aren't you selling Grand Seiko? He said, I'm not allowed to have Grand Seiko without Rolex next to it. Grand Seiko is only sold in shops that also have Rolex. In the other shop, next to him, they sell Tudor right next to freaking Patek Philippe Grand Complication 5370P-001 with a price tag of 185 000 pounds. Yes. That's what TUDOR is.
