Ultimate team was a very clever business idea, it came out when Millennials were at the end of playing video games and Gen Z would know no other version of these games. So by the mid 10s, they no longer had to please Millennials with the context that they came to expect and could just send unfinished games with micro transactions because Gen Z know nothing else

Streamers also made the ultimate team mode so bad. When it first came out people played different styles and different teams. Now u see everyone plays same tactics similar teams and just find exploits youtubers tell them to do game is not skill based its just flat out money making scam from ea and streamers.

pro clubs/11v11 should be THE mode. and EA should earn money with cosmetics

My main reason Ultimate Team is ruining the game, is that the teams are all looking the same. Malaga, Emmen of Nantes filled to the brim with legends with the same qualities. I really enjoyed finding out what strategies work best for my team lacking in certain areas. Me and my friends used to play with the teams you were dealt with after pressing 'Random Team' a max of three times. Imagine the excitement beating your buddy's Real Madrid with Southampton

I loved UT in the 2011-2016 era. Gameplay felt much more smooth compared to base game movement. Plus I loved building a sweaty cheap South American team that couldn't be caught down the flanks and just a simple cross and tap in. Easy mode. Use to send those who spent vast amounts of cash to get the best players possible in a mass tizzy and spam hate messages. Ah, I love the toxic players out there.

The Title should be how USERS ruined sports games. If USERS don't buy into it. They will quit making it but because ppl are addicted to it and pur money into it This becomes the focus of the game rather than improving the game itself.

Microtransactions in the single-player content is what's ruined Madden and NBA games - rather than treating Ultimate Team as a separate game mode and cash cow, they decided to expand microtransactions into the career modes which represented a large chunk of the single-player offering, and made progress in these modes a tedious grind to incentivise the purchase of these boosters

I think the main problem with Ultimate at least on FIFA/FC is just how money hungry EA has gotten. Up until FIFA 18, you didn’t have to have a full expensive team to be competitive. There were plenty of gold rare cards and even gold common or silver cards (in older FIFAs) that could be used the whole game cycle, but since FIFA 19, those lower rated cards are absolutely useless after a certain point. Each year that certain point becomes earlier and earlier. With each year bringing new promos and new flashy cards, it creates a massive Fear of Missing Out Effect on the whole community and EA knows exactly how to exploit it. It limits how much freedom of expression the player has because we’re basically forced to play the most meta cards at all times. If you come up against a player of the same skill level as you, but they have Mbappe and you don’t. They will win 8 out ten times.

And this is why I’m afraid to try College football 25. It looks like it’s just gonna be a reskin of shitty madden. Also, stopped buying FIFA. The only game I ever bought every year it dropped

I am a firm believer that ea keeps making the gameplay worse each year for fifa so the pay to win mechanic becomes even more pivotal. The worse the gameplay , the more the difference you feel in the quality of your players

Ngl FIFA 23 kinda fixed it, I didn't spend a penny on FIFA points and I still had a team that can compete because of SBCs but FC24 completely went in on the pay to win asspect of the game and it became so boring

To me the big problem with a lot of current sports games is rubber banding and predetermined outcomes, with matching animations. For ultimate team modes to make money, it requires players to be engaged as long as possible. So the game uses an algorithm that ensures every player has a win/loss record that hits the sweet spot. The system will then activate this rubber banding throughout play to make sure it get the result it wants. This makes the games feel cheap and unfulfilling, I walk away feeling that I either didn't deserve the win or was cheated out of victory. Although there was some rubber banding in games before, it has become much greater since the introduction of these game modes.

Inherently theres nothing wrong with the idea/concept of ultimate team. If t stayed how it was during its first years or so it wouldve been perfect (madden 10-13), its when they went full greed around madden 25 & 16 going forward that it ruined the mode & the consequently, the whole game.

Like others have said, I actually really liked UT when it first came out for FIFA. It was a blast crafting your team, grinding for coins and searching for those diamond in the rough type players. Matching chemistry added a layer as well. But over time it became impossible to find those guys because people just price lock them. And it feels like everyone has insanely stacked teams that they just bought. It used to be rare to face someone with a 95+ player, but now it seems everyone has them across the board. It might be nostalgia but over time it seems like it's just gotten more greedy and over the top.

I've always been a career mode guy in fifa and other sports games. At least i am playing and enjoying the game for 70 bucks.

For FIFA it’s not ultimate team, it’s the Frostbite engine and the now no longer working staff that initially coded the games there to fix the game

The Show is the best one in terms of playing ultimate team no money but you still have to put in like 6-8 hours a day to keep up. It also feels like diamond dynasty(like every other ultimate team) is taking away too much attention from the single player modes. You're telling me my 18yo drafted in the 13th round player is going straight to AA? its been like 15 years and still no rookie ball and/or single A? Even if its like 20 games give me SOMETHING. Why is franchise CPU trade logic still THAT ass? The amount of 26yo 90 OVRs that get traded to one bad team for another 26yo 90 OVR on a different bad team makes 0 sense. The lack of innovation or progress is just disappointing. TLDR; If other game modes held their own and werent held back nobody would even complain about UT.

2k5 did it perfectly with the quick draft mode where you basically did a fantasy football team draft against your opponent and then play with those teams. (QB, RB, WR1, WR2, TE, and DEFENSE) Ultimate team is a cash grab piece of trash.

Im 44 played the first fifa on megadrive and played every year. Since 2009 when they first did ultimate team it wasnt that bad as you could earn points kinda easily and they have just got worse ever since. And a couple of years ago stuffing the packs with women players has just made it so slow to collect anything. I'm m a cheap git and have never and will never spend money on ultimate team just wish everyone would do it for a couple of years as that would hit EA but unfortunately getting gamers to band together sometimes is insane.

One thing I am grateful for with FIFA Ultimate Team is it made me aware of my gambling addiction early. I worked it out and by 15 I’d spent well over £2000 on packs. I spend my dinner money on packs and survive off a pack of crisps or sweets for a whole school day😂😭

Ultimate team is gambling praying on the weak, how many stories has it not been about kids maxing parents credit cards with FT purchases. When it comes to the Fifa games (I know they changed the name) I think most of the money comes from Europe, maybe it is time to get the EU on board to ban it, if the EU succeeded the UK would be the only mayor place that didn't ban it. I only play career mode as I don't care for online play, I buy the game every few years and play it casually but even I can see how FUT has ruined the game as everything else take a back seat.

Dude, ultimate team is the best thing happened to fifa. I played fifa all my life since 94. It got boring after 1 month of playing career mode already. Since I play ultimate team (fifa 13) I never invested more than 50€ a year, sometimes when I bought ultimate or preorder I did not spent a penny. It is more fun to try to have a good team without buying packs, you can do objectives and all that stuff and still have a good team. It’s not a fifa problem that you keep buying points it’s yours.
