The precursor swords to the katana was not called a taichi, that's of form exercise/martial arts from China. The sword used before the katana was called that tach and was wron edge down, as opposed to edge up with the katana, and hanging by cords from the belt instead of tucked in it. Another thing, while samurai did start out as mounted archers, they did not remain so. During later periods they often acting as infantry armed with pole arms.

the remarks about the movement restrictions of the armor....... its a terrible misconceptions that samurai armor or european armor where too heavy for agile movement, especialy the samurai armor wich was tailor made to be as agile as possible while retaining some protection. there are videos out there showing gymnastics in full plate european armor and sword fights in full samurai armor. stop spreading the 1000 times debunked myth of armor is so heavy you can barly move while wearing it.
