Congrats on making it home from Texas. Those bearing look like very high mileage well-worn stock bearings. As you said all that clearance was most of your oil pressure problem plus #1 cam bearing. What did it say on the back shell? What brand(GM?) and what undersize, if any? The reason the valves are hard to get out is after lots of miles the valve locks mushroom the valve stem where they push up against. Easy to see when you look at it. You need to use a Dremel and carefully take it off before removing the valves. When you put the oil pump back together use a TA Performance gasket shim kit to set the correct end gap on the gears. Using the gaskets that come with those rebuild/high volume kits usually ends up with too much end play and low oil pressure so you want that corrected for the rebuild. Any numbers on the back of the cam to indicate if it was a replacement?

I am up for watching an Opel GT build. I really know next to nothing about those mini corvettes. I think DD Speedshop has one on the backburner for a turbo 2.3 Ford T5 build.

My 73 455 just needed to idle at 900+ in order to keep the oil light turned off. Which seemed to be high, and not good if you're looking for that lub-lub sound.

I think putting the 350 in a Miata would be a cool project. Seems those cars take almost any engine, even slant 6s.

if you want to up the compression use v6 3.8 piston flat tops

I appreciate that man I ended up going with a set of Speed-Pro Hypereutectic Pistons H392NCP 30. And all the connecting rods have been taken care of and new ARP bolts added.

Engine disassembly is fun. I’d focus resources on the 455. 318, unfortunate experience. Are you putting the 440 in the satellite or are you done with mopars? Where are you at on the v10 truck?

Definitely not done with MOPARs. I have my eye on a couple right now. I haven’t decided yet if the satellites gonna get a 440 or a 360.

I use free all and the torch is on the ground. Fortunately, I didn’t end up having to use it. first time for everything

@@LunarOutlawsGarage TA Performance has their dual grooved cam bearings So no need for balance line, 455s were common to have balance line not really for the 350, I also had a cross over tube to connect the rear two oil gallies in the back of my 455 block, I ran that Mod 20 plus years no problems!!

I have those bearings on my shopping list once tax season comes through but I’m still gonna run the oil bypass because it’s a really cool mad that anyone could do without having to rebuild the engine.

It’s a raised ranch the whole basement is one level out to the garage. So I just roll it in from the garage.

I know a lot of people been saying that for years, and there’s one content creator that swears by that, but there’s a reason why there’s manufacturer’s tolerances.

@@LunarOutlawsGarage Yes there is always too loose as well. I had in mind like too little ring gap and you tear the pistons apart within minutes, too much ring gap and you just get lots of blow by and ring consumption but it will still run. Same if you have .001" rod clearance versus .005". At .001 it will likely seize when it heats up but .005 will have low pressure.
