Wow. I just watched the first video on the green giants arbs bk 2 yrs ago. They truly are fast growers. Great choice for a nice dense hedge. Your dad did an amazing job pruning them. Appreciate the step by step explanation. Can’t wait for the next update.

Nice job! Now will you all keep watering them through the winter? I've heard they are very thirsty plants that need watering regularly, even in the winter months. Thank you.

I don’t believe they get watered throughout the winter months. They may have supplemental water once, but that would be it. That can fluctuate with different climates though

Do you have issues with them turning dark bronze in the winter? It got pretty bad to where I thought they were dead. Starting to green up a bit now. Any advice on how to prevent it?

The colder the climate, the more bronze they tend to get, that’s just the nature of the plants. I wouldn’t he too concerned, but if you plant in a more protected spot (less cold and wind), you may get less bronzing in the winter

These are green giant arborvitae’s (thuja plicata x standishii)

Not necessarily. You can make beautiful hedges with these tress. The are those kind that you can trim.

No. But the cut should be where you want the height to be permanently, because arborvitaes don't grow new "leaders" like deciduous trees do.

Usually they form a few branches that grow straight up, which can cause then be a bit bushier at the top. Thats why we went about a foot lower than what we want it to be eventually

Green Giant Arbs want to get to 15’x40’. You might be fighting a losing battle. Another cultivar might have been a better choice.
