You really should run calibration run out on that probe. X y z the only time I take mine out is to change tips or swap batteries. They are ok to leave in the machine. Looks good tho. Keep making chips

You really shouldn't smack the first op down with a deadblow. You should cut it in it's most relaxed state until you have square and accurate edges. Then tap it gently down onto your parallels or whatever on the second op. If you keep doing it this way you are inducing stresses or twists into the material. when you release it the material will want to spring back, and now the "flat" surfaces you just machined will be bowed or twisted. It might not matter too much for this application since it's getting bolted down all the way around but if you truly want the best sealing surfaces or you want it to be as flat as possible you should consider not tapping down the first op. Just a tip, other than that they look pretty killer

I'm shocked at how many people don't know this. They incorrectly assume that the raw stock is not twisted at all.

Ever since CNCs became so popular (and most old machinists/toolmakers like me are gone) no one conventional-cuts anymore. I still rough pockets and circle interpolated blind bores conventional, then finish climbing - I thought the supervisor's eyes were going to pop out when I showed him how much faster you can rough down inside the part when you're not recutting your chips!

The part looks great. But for the love of god change your coolant out. not many coolants should look that way and my guess the smell is like a trash can. Xtreme Cut 250C Or Redline Rd3500. I run both of them in my shop.

It's a re-tag, I'm not sure if RMK makes any of their machines. RMK markets mostly to engine machine shops, most engine machine shops know next to nothing about real machine tools.

Couldn’t you use a face mill then come through with and end mill and finisher to speed up time?
@marcushert2759
@marcushert2759 4 жыл бұрын
Can’t plunge cut with a normal face mill. I know they make some face mills that do it but you’re limited to .030-.050 depth of cut where they’re probably doing .125 at a time. More than likely doesn’t make much difference in the end

That makes sense. I’m not a machinist so I don’t know a whole lot. I just have a lot of family in the business and used to preset tools for acutec aerospace

dont tap you raw blanks into the vise on the first operation you dont allow the natural twist of the blank to be machined out and once the x&y is set program a pin stop in a tool holder to bump up against instead of using the probe every time and On the first operation you could use a 1/2 accurapro full dia cuts at .800 depth of cut at 12000rpm and 80 inches a minute then reaclamp the part before finishing to realeas the stress and lightly rea clamp and finish then the last op could all be done on a vacuum fixture so you dont have to use bolts to hold it down also when you go back and do engraving on the anodized parts you just put it on the vacuum fixture and suck it back down and it will all be set

PSD Leach You can’t really high feed mill aluminum just because you can put some serious work in with an endmill if you have a high rpm spindle. For example with a 1” high feed mill which is pretty small I can take 4.5 cubic inches a minute in steel. With a 1/2 endmill in aluminum running 7500 rpm at 1” doc .050 radial you can take close to 10 cubes. Obviously they definitely could increase their depth of cut and use chip thinning to their advantage, but they’re not.

We use a 2" Korloy F.M. in aluminum - while it's true you can't plunge straight down, I spiral/profile down into 6061 aluminum (which is what this cover is), ramping down .06 to .08 at a time at 200 - 240 inches a minute feed and at 7000 spindle rpm. To be fair - real world machining isn't what these guys are about.

Completely wrong paths, crap end mill and side lock holder. Climb mill path, Kennametal KOR5 end mill and Kennametal HydroForce chuck will rock your world. Watch one of Titan’s videos. 20K rpm and 1600 ipm. Boom.

Maybe but you don't know what his profit margins are on this part, how much he gets or how many he makes. That tooling set up for one tool is about $1,500 vs $200 or so for what he's got. Also I've never heard of that machine before, he might not be able to take advantage of a tool like that.

While not ideal, even using an ER holder would be a step up from a solid holder and lock screw setup. I've made V8 billet valve covers in a Haas using ER holders. I push it as hard as I dare without sucking endmills out of collets. I do agree if money isn't a factor a hydraulic holder would be ideal.

Why don't you post a video if your programming? Titan is a floppy shoes clown, by the way.
@85CEKR
@85CEKR 4 жыл бұрын
@@moorepower7 it depends on the quality of the tool holder, most tooling companies say never to put an end mill in an ER. A good quality sidelock is a better choice. I think the main reason is that you can't hold an end mill tight enough to guarantee no pull out when pushing a high end endmill hard enough to get good life out if it.
@moorepower7
@moorepower7 4 жыл бұрын
@@85CEKR Side lock holders definitely have their place, but in my opinion this isn't the place. I use side lock holders all the time in our big 50 taper horizontal cutting 4140 steel running +/- 2000rpm. When cutting aluminum in our VF2SS at 12000rpm, I want a balanced holder that doesn't have a screw on one side throwing off the balance. If you're not trying to run balls to the walls RPM, side lock works.......but it's a lot more fun to set the feed and speed on kill and watch the chips fly!
