In honor of all the entrants to our 2017 Tiny Desk Contest, we made a little video about how our audio whiz Josh Rogosin records the Tiny Desk concerts. Remember: This Contest is about a great performance, not great audio quality. Check out what everybody made for the Contest at npr.org/tinydeskcontest and stay tuned for the winner announcement! The Contest winner will play a Tiny Desk and go on a tour of the U.S. fueled by Lagunitas.

This guy is a hero. 90% of tiny desk concerts sound better that the studio version. There are tens of bands that I will only listen to the Tiny Desk version of their tracks.

@@mistersydster I agree with the oc on alot of performances but anderson.paak isnt one. Personally I like the studio versions of the songs he performed. But I would love to hear songs from ventura in a tiny desk concert

I've been waiting for this! I always find myself admiring the sound quality whenever I'm listening to Tiny Desk. Would it be possible to make more of these videos please? And maybe go more in depth too? I would be very interested to see what you do in the mixing and post production phase!

Josh you're an awesome engineer mate the crispness, quality and dynamic range of your recordings are outstanding. keep it up, have you considered doing another video on the rest of the chain of events into the recording mixing down, ADC etc? I'm sure your fans would be very interested

I think part of the appeal of the Tiny Desk sound is the fact that most of the bands will play very quietly, compared to regular gigs. They will also be much closer to each other and have little or no foldback, forcing them to listen more to each other.

Lovely sound indeed! I guess the players playing softly on low-mid volume amps also helps the sound a lot! It's so refreshing to the ears, makes you want to lean forward into the music in a relaxed way. Thanks for that!

I watch a lot of your videos. I was just watching Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile and thought to myself; I wonder what mic's they use on that show. So I did a quick KZfaq search and wouldn't you know it, there you are with a video on this very topic. Love the show! Love the Sound! Great engineering & great mixing!
