How We Use Generation Genius
UPDATE: Generation Genius no longer offers a homeschool option.
I am finally sharing how we use Generation Genius. I can not tell you how amazing this program is. It is in-depth but also so easy to use. We use Generation Genius with 2 girls in Kinder and 4th. I love that the topics covered are so varying. I am not sure how often the videos will be added to or updated. I am hoping there will be new content annually but will have to wait and see. We have found a way to make this work well for all of us. Please be kind and just call me prepared and not a hoarder...

Hello from Bastrop TX!! So happy I found your channel!!! My daughter is 4 and I am attempting to homeschool her but have found it hard to find non-religious material... Not that I'm not religious... I was almost beginning to think that only Churchy ppl homeschooled their children... Glad I was wrong!! Thank you for all the great info!!

We love Generation Genius! I wasn’t sure what to do for Science and went with your suggestion. We began using it at the beginning of the school year and my kids really enjoy it. I think we’ll be continuing to use it next school year too.

For science, I use the Core Knowledge books (I buy the printed versions) and then I pair those texts with the Generation Genius videos and some Evan-Moor workbooks as a supplement. I have a rising 1st grader and rising 3rd grader, and we do science and history/geography as family lessons, too.

Thank you for this! I was on the edge of whether or not I wanted to do this. My daughter loves science -- I do not, and I am already bogged down with a lot parent-intensive programs in other subjects. So I'd love to outsource this one. Can't wait to try it!

Thanks for sharing!! I will definitely be adding this to at least supplement our science. I’m also planning to try History Quest this year. We are not secular homeschoolers, but I really need a good audio history. I’m done doing a lot of read alouds for everything! 😅

Interesting, we just had a look at this and it looks good... Even though the over acting is a bit annoying - but definitely educational. Do you think it's enough ? Our main theme of the year this year is going to be history, and I have a heap of books and things to go along with History Quest - we have books following the history of science, mathematics, writing, art, building/houses etc - then my son said that because we are going back to the beginning of everything we should do biology and learn about humans, animals, and plants - so I thought I would grab Pandia Press's science Odyssey Life, and the kit that goes with it (haven't purchased it yet) - this looks like it would go along with it great... Though I don't want to get too bogged down with too much. I like that I don't have to read this... I'm actually getting the audio as well as the book for History Quest because I have a mountain of other books to read and am looking forward to the audio doing that bit. His trialing teaching textbook math at the moment... We are getting a bit technological in this year that's supposed to be about the Ancients.

I feel like this can easily be a complete plan or used lightly to compliment more science studies. You can adapt, add or subtract to suit your needs.

I made up my own schedule to use with both of my kids. Basically I use the k-2 level of a topic then use the same topic in the 3-5 level the next week.

I purchased GG and it is obviously well produced with a lot of flashy dance music but here is my issue as someone who is passionate about the scientific method and want to teach children HOW to think logically : What Is Science lesson never even mentions FALSIFICATION of the HYPOTHESIS. This is the gold standard for biology so this is a glaring omission. Actually it is negligent. Even worse what IS mentioned: "scientific knowledge depends on acceptance in the scientific community". NO. Science does NOT depend on "acceptance by the scientific community". History is replete with scientists whose theory was true but they were ostracized by the "scientific consensus". Galileo and Semmelweiss died in prison for their theories which were considered "quackery" by the mainstream science and medicine of their time! I highly recommend people read Bechamps and Pasteur for one historical account of how a scientific theory bifurcated and yet, the dominant power structure never reliably tested the hypothesis because it was not expedient or convenient to do so. Groupthink is the ANTITHESIS of science and scientists often challenge the dominant paradigm. Science is expensive and it makes sense that those funding the studies want a good ROI. No doubt GG has taken a lot of funding from industry "science", however it is misrepresenting the scientific method in a pretty egregious way. The results of industry funding science are people with college degrees in science who do not know how to distinguish a fact from a belief.

I am putting this out there because homeschoolers value children learning to think critically. Yet Logic class was removed from most schools years ago and this was the biggest change to students thinking, or lack of critical thinking today. Not to nitpick GG, but science is not an authority, or a “community”, it is a TOOL for economic and political power. Druids, Warlocks, astrologers, Egyptians, And shaman- all the Scientists of their time and they held the power over the community by transmitting their knowledge, which they called “occult” because it was hidden from the average person. Telling kids “knowledge requires acceptance by the community” is not only a lie, it is fascism. Science is about questioning, not conforming! The “commmunity” once burned witches at the stake because herbalism was a threat to allopathic medicine. It was propaganda by The Science Community who wanted to profit from the sale of medicines, which “witches” were competing against and, since people were religious, the propaganda was tailored to engage their cultural fears/beliefs. Jews were exterminated because of The Science propaganda of that day which used peoples fears, lack of understanding, along with economic and social pressure to conform to the “scientific community” of the time which believed they could eradicate many social and medical problems. If we fail to transmit logic, and emphasize truth through civil discourse, our children will be destined to repeat these histories in different ways.
