Matt, great topic and presentation! Anytime you deal with people and a product you'll run into THAT customer. The best suggestion I ever got in dealing with those people was to use diplomacy. At the time it was defined as, "Telling someone to go to hell in such a way they actually look forward to the trip."

You're an outstanding man Matt. Great video. Very uplifting and great advice for anyone who runs a business. I used to be a wedding photographer and I never received a complaint, but it was only time before it happened and I'm glad I bailed from that business before I had to deal with it. It takes a special person to deal with these situations like you do and that's commendable. Hat's off to you sir!

A very Humble video Matt. I totally agree with the never answer any emails or real life situations in haste. Take time to think it through. Sometimes we’re put in a situation face to face and you don’t have that opportunity to just walk away. I’ve been there just one time in my life. With my own father who I loved dearly even though he was an alcoholic. That one time cost me 16 hours. Cold bologna sandwiches and a hard concrete floor to sleep on. No there was nothing physical, I would never lay a hand on either of my parents. But his story and lies still got me 16 hours in Hotel California. I’d never ever even got a speeding ticket. NEVER REACT IN HASTE.

Absolutely. Your life story isn’t to far off from mine. My blood dad was the same and has since left and mom found a awesome guy who adopted my brother and I. We are very lucky 🍀

Was a photographer for many years and ran into situations similar from time to time. Unpleasant to deal with but a necessity. Someone told me once that there is an 80/20 rule in dealing with the general public. 20% of the customers will cause you 80% of your problems. Not sure if that is true for the majority of retailers but it was pretty close to what I expected in photography. Just found your channel and enjoy the content. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

There will always be another customer if your product is good and your policies are clear. We call them “challenging clients around here and have always wished that some customers spent as much time learning to be good clients as we do to be good merchants.

Amen brother, a difficult customer can create havoc for you causing personal stress and throughput interruptions for other customer projects. Sometimes it is best to just walk away...

Dealing with people is the hardest part of any business. But direct customer interaction over electronics people tends to be braver. hmm, a better way to say that. They will say things they normally wouldn't in person. So I feel your pain. Not everyone realizes the hardships that also go with customer service. In their head, the product is a vision of perfection and that isn't always feasible in the real world. and then there are just some nasty people out there that want something for nothing.

We found that specify when we would accept changes from the customer helped. We always give them the day their item will ship and no changes after a certain time or day. STILL you get a last second change, Frustrating for sure.

Can definitely tell you got burned bad by this customer, happens to us all. You try to accommodate people with something simple, and they keep pulling at the string! I do this all the time, by trying to increase my skills and offering things to someone so I can push myself to learn something new. Usually, it works out, then there's that 1% that tries to take advantage.

Do you have a Facebook group? If not, you should make one! I would love to have a small group full of small business owners with lasers. Seems like every group out there has 10k+ members and it's hard to talk business and support each other with so many people
