It's odd mate, even in Germany we are split about him. He is creative like no other and as you pointed out not great defensively. I had arguments with my brother about whether he should be in the Germany team. Him against, me for. That 2014 Germany team had everything he needed to be at his best. An awesome backline, a a midfield consisting of Schweinsteiger, Kedhira and sometimes Lahm. The problem at Arsenal was that he barely ever had the opportunity to be at his absolute brilliant best. I think the same reasons why van Persie ended up leaving Arsenal for have affected Ozil. After Sanchez left for Utd the team was lacking a lot of quality in the attacking positions and a lot was put onto Ozils shoulders. To get the best out of him you need quality players around him and that wasn’t the case for much of the time. Players just couldn’t see the passes or make the intelligent runs for him. He has been blamed for a lot of Arsenal’s failures, but I’m sure he’s been made a scspegoat for promises made to him, but that were never delivered. Im a Liverpool fan and am confident that if he was playing here you would have seen a far more consistent and successful player. He was asked to take a pay cut, but why should he when he was being treated so badly by the club?

I really have little to no respect for a manager who thinks ignoring or freezing out a player due to tactical or football related reasons is part of his repertoire. Heard Pep used to do this to Eto'o, Zlatan, Yaya etc to gain absolute control of the Barca dressing room over the 'old heads'. Also heard Arteta (Pep's protégé) did the same to Ozil..
