What a fantastic looking piece, nice to see the casebook with Rolex written on it. Just bought my first Tudor BB and love the fact it looks vintage. I own a seamster and would love to give it a full service like this but needs a new dial due to damage and the movement would need replating rose gold on the bridge.I even wondered about sending it to Omega in Switzerland for full vintage service.

It's a really beautiful watch! People who argue over which watch company is "better" or if one is a "poor man's Rolex" and what not are very simple/close-minded people, it's sad to hear that that's the level of thought of some people. Every watch has its beauty and place. Besides, Rolex is on the low end of high-end watches, so if you are one of those who feel the need to compensate for their low self-esteem by displaying expensive stuff, then perhaps a Rolex is not the right tool. I mean, it isn't really that expensive, it costs as much as a really cheap car. But I guess Rolex's brand standing can be attributed to their highly successful marketing.

You sound much better, Stian, hopefully you're well on the way to a full recovery. Another masterful restoration, although I would have liked to have seen the pneumatic watchmaker's hammer that you used to remove the pendant tube. 😊 It's interesting to see how much variation in movements there were before the ETA 2824 design became the industry standard for Swiss movements. I like how they designed the automatic module. It is so small and simple and is tucked away off center next to the crown wheel. I guess that was to reduce the thickness of the movement. Really looking forward to seeing you work on the JLC.

Wilsdorf was an astute businessman. He created watches of quality to different price points for the wristwatch consumer. Tudor as the less expensive little brother will always suffer image wise against the Rolex. For the people who wear a watch as a status statement, lording it over Tudor is a favorite Rolex big-shot pastime! I own a fancy Breguet 3317. In a room full of Rolex Daytona wearers, I am " like nowhere!"

You have such an enjoyable channel on many levels. The general info, the actual disassembly and assembly, restorative techniques, sound effects, humorous commentary but sometimes just the little ironic gaffs. The dismissive red sharpie comment in the early part of the video and then later, the 'smoking gun' red sharpie marks on your fingers. Haha. Subtle. Thanks from this watch repair voyeur for creating this channel.

That is a nice watch and I enjoy watching your work and listening to your conversations. I too wonder at the future of watches. A couple off Christmases ago I offered to buy watches for my two kids (now in their 20's), as neither has a watch. Both didn't want one as they say they have a phone. My wife doesn't wear a watch either. I guess now the phone is taking over as a time keeper, camera and encyclopedia. So watches, cameras and hard copy books have a lot of competition. There will always be people who want high end watches as a status symbol but what about everyday watches, will they go the way of the pocket watch - a quaint curio.
@VintageWatchServices
@VintageWatchServices Жыл бұрын
Yep I agree with that, Allan. Mechanical watches are luxury items more than utility items now, so they will survive as such, but new generations are growing up without a watch on their wrists

A great video as always. I found this one particulaly interesting as I used to work for Watches of Switzerland refurbishing the Rolex cases and bracelets for the national shops around the UK. There's a lot I could talk about on this subject, but I thought your approach and handling of the case was very good. One of my biggest bugs in seeing a refinished case is seeing feathering from the grained shoulder to the polished side. It was so nice to see you give that good attention! As a bonus, my girlfriend also enjoys your videos 🙂
@VintageWatchServices

Lovely restoration, Stian. I am with you in regards to Rolex. I've never really wanted a Rolex in my collection, mainly because they're two showey. People want to make a statement by wearing one. Thank you for this brilliant video, Stian. I could write a 10'000 word comment or essay on all the points you mention (agreeing and disagreeing), but here is the one thing I look forward to most: you doing a Jaeger-LeCoultre in the foreseeable future. All of my favorite channels are kind of stuck with Rolexes at the time, so a change to a lesser pimped-up brand (or a higher one: anybody in for a Patek Phillipe, Breguet, Lange & Söhne or Ulysse Nardin?) would be greatly appreciated. Again: thank you for this treat, even though I would never go within a mile of a Tudor, nor within a million miles of a Rolex.
