I really loved Black Cat too, but I’m a diehard Calico and ginger cat fan, so the calico is my top pick. I actually dress like the calico too, but honestly had never realized it until just now. 😂 I’ve always found myself drawn to her type and patterns/colors of clothes !! Must be a subconscious thing. This video was absolutely pure genius. Lots of time and effort went into making it. I was glued to my screen for every second ! I love this video SO much and it’s going into my Favorites so I can access it and share it with all my cat-loving buddies. I’m getting a kitten in six weeks, a ginger 🐈 since my name is Ginger. There’s a tortie calico in the litter too, but the usual colors and pattern are my favorite of the calicoes. The litter was just born on 5/16, the same day my 18 year old granddaughter and her boyfriend were involved in a severe head-on crash at Myrtle Beach, SC. They’re both ok thanks to Dawson’s car having airbags ALL over the car, even the roof, and the fact too Makenzie took her blanket and put her seat back and laid down. Her side (door) airbag still hit her in the face because she pitched forward a bit on impact and knocked her glasses off and nearly destroyed her Stanley cup filled with Gatorade, but better it get destroyed than Kenzie !! My Life360 app called me on impact. I freaked out, to say the least ! Good thing too because Dawson’s OnStar was damaged and not working. I’m SO thankful I have the Gold Package because I got an immediate crash notification call and EMS and police were on the way in seconds ! Dawson had very severe airbag burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc., because he’s 6ft 9in tall, and the fact too he’d reached across Kenz to help hold her down. He saw what was going to happen but couldn’t do anything about it. She had her seatbelt on, but since she was nearly prone, it couldn’t do its job perfectly. Her glasses went flying, but somehow did not break. (good thing too, Vera Bradley brand $900 worth !) This accident happened because an 18 year old girl was in too big of a hurry to wait on a semi to go passed her, needed to go the opposite direction from where she was going, tried to cross the median, couldn’t see Dawson’s car at all until she hit them. She was uninjured but her car was totaled, as was Dawson’s $50,00 car, which he still owed $35,000 on !! She got several tickets, and I fear the worst is yet to come ! She was totally irresponsible and if her license is suspended, well, too bad. She made a decision that could have killed everyone ! The kids were coming back home to WV after almost a week at the beach. They both agreed to never go back ! Dawson is sick over his car, but is even more sick because his love was involved in the wreck and could have died. The impact hit straight head-on, on her side, and things could have been WAY worse than they were ! Had both cars been going faster, it definitely could have killed everyone. Dawson’s car was extremely well-made, which helped too. Had they been further out of town, going the speed limit, well, I don’t even want to think about it. 😢 Anyway, Kenzie’s mom, my daughter, was delivering the kittens at the time of the crash. I lost all four of my dogs, one each year from 2020-2023, so I’m kinda done with dogs now. They were all rescues and seniors. My soul dog, Duncan Donut Dawg, was 17 in 2020 when he crossed the 🌈 bridge. So, I’ve decided to get a kitten. The fact she was born the same day of the accident clenched the deal for me on getting a cat. I’m 75, disabled and having hip surgery soon, so a dog is not practical anymore I guess. I’ll just continue to enjoy all the dogs here at the “old folks” apartment complex. 😂 Well, that was quite a tangent I got off onto here, wasn’t it !! 😝 Hope I didn’t bore you, if you even were brave and patient enough to read it all. I’m going to search for cat clothes now I think, so when the time comes for Mouse to come home she’ll have a few cute things. I’ll get more after she’s full grown. I’ve got some great ideas, thanks to this video. I also sew, and I’d love to make her a few things too. Thanks for putting up with the lonely old granny here. Kenzie has a four year old sister too, but I don’t get to see her much. 😢 She’ll want to come see the kitten tho, so maybe Niki-Noel will bring her over more. When I was a kid, we had three cats. They all let me dress them in my doll clothes and push them in my stroller. I tried to be gentle, and they didn't seem to mind. They seemed to like the attention and the buggy rides around the house.

Did you guys had to fight with the abusive owners in order to retrieve the cat?* I am an avoidant so when a conflict happen I completely disassociative myself from the conflict and wonder what I did wrong. Does it work like that with you too?*

@@RinnieButterfly I can tell you what happened, but I'll split it up into a few replies because I think that, sometimes, YT removed replies that are too long. My daughter and I live in a small apartment building, only 9 units. Almost 10 years ago, a young pregnant woman lived in the building, and my daughter would talk to her sometimes. At the time, my daughter was 20, and the woman was just a little older. One day she tells my daughter that her mum is moving, and there's nobody but her to help. My daughter, who has always been a very kind and caring person said that she'd help as well. On the day, my daughter called me at work to warn me that she was bringing a cat home from the mum's house. I wasn't too thrilled, as we already had 6, but my daughter said that I'd understand when I saw the cat, and she didn't want to say too much while she was at the mum's house. I got home that night and met the saddest cat I've ever seen in my life. A tiny calico with huge swollen lips that looked like they had no skin on them. The top lip was also split in half, she had dark marks all over her face, paws, and legs, and the whole bottom half of her back was covered in, what felt like, a solid sheet of scab and the hair was falling out. She said that when she got to the house, there were a bunch of people there partying, and no one seemed very interested in helping the woman get the stuff moved out of the house. There were 2 cats in the house, Nyssa (who didn't even have a name at that point) and a beautiful long haired male that was obviously very well taken care of. The woman made extra money by breeding the 2 cats and selling the kittens. Apparently, abusing Nyssa was just something they did for fun. My daughter said that a couple guys who were there (she wasn't quite sure who lived there with the woman) had absolutely no shame in telling her how they basically used Nyssa, who they all called the little b*tch, as a punching bag for their own amusement. They said that they played soccer with her!! Literally kicking her back and forth across the floor!! They "played catch" with her, threw her across the room to see how far they could throw her, and would spike her like a football because they thought the sounds she made were funny. One of the guys picked Nyssa up around her middle and was actually getting ready to spike her, but my daughter grabbed her before he could slam her on the floor. They told my daughter that when they weren't "playing with" Nyssa, she lived in the basement. She wasn't allowed upstairs most of the time, and she wasn't allowed on any of the soft furniture because she shed too much. But she said it was clear that the white cat was allowed wherever he wanted because there was white cat hair on everything.

The people in the house told my daughter that they were taking Nyssa to the SPCA when they were done packing up the truck because they didn't want to take her to the new house. She was useless to them at that point because all the kittens from her last litter had died, and she'd only been useful as long as the woman from the house could make money off of her. My daughter doubted that they were going to take her to the SPCA because she had clearly been very badly abused. She was afraid that they were going to do something horrible to her then dump her somewhere. She said they had to know that if they surrendered her to the SPCA, they would probably call the police on them. Kate asked if she could have her, since they were going to surrender her anyway. None of them cared, and said my daughter could take her. They gave Kate a box for her, and told her that Nyssa's food was in the basement if she wanted to take it. She said that the ammonia smell from the litter box burned her eyes, and she couldn't imagine what it was like for Nyssa to spend so much time down there. She said it looked like the litter box had never been cleaned, and that she'd seen another one upstairs that obviously was the one for the white cat, and it was clean. They hadn't brought anything up from the basement to put on the truck because it was damp so the woman didn't use it for anything. The only other things down there were 2 filthy bowls, one with dirty water in it, and the other with a little dry food in it and something crusted all over it. There was a big bag of the absolute cheapest dry cat food, and an empty food bag lying in a corner. The bag was flattened, and she suspected that's where Nyssa slept. She said she had to stop herself from crying when she imagined Nyssa being taken upstairs to be abused, then thrown back into the basement without even a dirty blanket or anything soft to lie on for comfort. She didn't take the cat food.

The next day she took Nyssa to the vet. Someone in the house had told Kate that Nyssa's lip had been split open when she had been kicked in the face. The vet said that being kicked hard enough to split her lip like that would also have broken her nose as well, but her nose wasn't broken. He said that someone had deliberately sliced her lip open with something very sharp. And they had cut her bottom lip from side to side and pulled the skin off her lip. All the swelling in her lips was from a very serious infection that she'd probably had for months, and it took almost a month on antibiotics to clear it up. Every day I had to clean her lips with a medicated cleanser. I knew she hated it, but she just lay down and let me do it, she never even tried to push my hand away even though it must have hurt so much, especially during that first week. She had no fight in her. Those monsters hadn't just abused her body, they had broken her spirit. The dark spots on her face, paws, and legs were cigarette burns. The vet had no idea what they could have done to her to cause that huge scab that covered half her back. He said they probably scraped something like a wire brush over her back over and over. She always had a croaky little meow, and the vet said that was because there was damage to her vocal cords...most likely from someone squeezing her throat very hard. He said that to do that kind of damage, even to a small animal like a cat, they would have had to squeeze very hard, and at the time, Nyssa wouldn't have been able to breath. I really hope there's a special circle of hell for every one of the subhumans who hurt her while they laughed. I haven't often truly hated anyone in my life, but I can honestly say that I hate those people and wish nothing but awful things for them. We named her Nyssa after one of our favourite Doctor Who characters, because we thought it was a very pretty name and she deserved to start being treated like the beautiful little girl that she was. She was so skittish. She slept in my room with me, and the rest of the time she had to be sitting right next to me or Kate. She wouldn't walk around anywhere except my room, and wanted nothing to do with any of the other cats. We had to carry her to the litter box, and put her food bowl on the sofa so she could sit next to us while she ate.

Very, very, very slowly, she started to heal and to trust that she was really safe with us. But that didn't happen overnight. In fact it took more than 2 years. It took weeks just to make her understand that it was okay if she slept on my bed. She never did learn to like being picked up or held, and that was understandable. For 4 1/2 years, the only time she was ever picked up was when someone was going to hurt her, and I guess that her subconscious always made that association between being picked up or held with something bad happening to her. She did eventually start to lie right against our leg, and she did like to be petted when she lay like that. At night she slept next to my pillow, and after a few months decided that she liked us to "hold hands" while she slept. So, I lay my hand in front of her, and she would put her paw over it, and sleep like that. It was nice to know that we had gotten to a point where being near me was comforting to her. We celebrated every little victory, whether that was her walking to the litter box alone, eating from the food bowl that the other cats used, tolerating the other cats being near her, learning to play with toys, or meeting me at the door along with the other cats to welcome me home from work. We always made sure to tell her that we were proud of her for being so brave, because it did take a lot of courage to give us her trust after the way she'd been treated by every human she knew before meeting us. There was a time after she came to live with us that we doubted that she could ever become the happy and carefree cat Wesco desperately wanted her to be. We really thought that she was too emotionally scarred to ever heal completely. But now, we were really believing it was possible. Then I found a little sore on her bottom lip. Because the skin on that lip was so thin, she sometimes scratched herself cleaning or bit her lip hard enough to break the skin. I thought that's what had happened, but it had gotten infected and she had an abscess. No big deal. I made an appointment to take her to the vet to get some antibiotics. I figured I'd be there and back in about an hour. The vet took one look at the sore and told me it was a cancerous tumour. It was an aggressive fast spreading cancer that usually invades the throat, neck, and nasal cavities. The vet pointed out all the little tumours he was finding all over her neck and face. He said that she might have a week, but there was no way to know how quickly a tumour might grow big enough to make it hard or impossible for her to breath or swallow. I thought we were just going for some antibiotics, and now I had to decide, with no warning, to euthanise her. I never wanted her to be in pain again, and with there being no way to know when that tumour that caused her pain would appear, we had run out of time. And the doctor had only given her a week. As much as I wanted to take her home and have just a few more days with her, I knew that would be the selfish decision and I'd be doing that for myself. And how would I feel if I took her home, and the next day she started gasping for air? She had spent the first 4 1/2 years of her life in pain, I wasn't going to let her end her life in pain. She'd endured enough at that point, she didn't deserve one more minute of pain. Putting her to sleep was very peaceful...I held her as she passed so the last thing she felt was my arms around her, the last thing she saw was my face, and the last thing she heard was me telling her how much she was loved and what an honour it had been to be her family, even if it hadn't been for nearly long enough. When we rescue an animal, we promise them that this is their forever home, that they will always be safe and loved here, and that no one will ever hurt them again. And we always keep that promise. After Nyssa passed we had her cremated and brought her back home. When you rescue animals, you are going to lose some far sooner than you're prepared for. Some are just very unhealthy and already have conditions that are life limiting. So, we give them the very best life we can for as long as we can, because they deserve to know what it feels like to be a cherished member of a family, even if it's only for a few months (we lost one of our cats only 5 months after rescuing him). And we bring every one of them back home because we promised them that this is their forever home. Every animal we've lost has hurt, but losing Nyssa didn't just break my heart, it made me so angry because it was so unfair. After everything that she had suffered for almost 5 years, you would think that the Universe would decided that she had earned a happy ending. But, just as it was becoming clear that this remarkable little girl was going to heal, she was going to recover and finally live the life she had always deserved, the Universe shook its finger and said, "Oh, no. No happily ever after for you". And the absolute unfairness of that still fills me with rage almost 7 years after losing her. The Universe didn't decide to punish the monsters who made her life a living hell for all those years, it decided to snatch Nyssa's life away just as she was finally learning to live it to the fullest. She deserved so much better.
