The only option is to be on the lowest floor. The energy of the drums getting hit goes somewhere because it doesn't become nearly as much sonic energy, so the vibrations go straight down the structure. The kick is the exception though, kicks with beaters are obnoxiously loud no matter what. I got a beaterless one that's literally just a pedal which I'd recommend, like $80

Lots of things to consider since we've all been at the receiving end of un-neighbourly behavior. I believe eDrums can still get quieter. A better mesh head could solve a lot of issues. For serious drummers who live in apartment, the answer might be as simple as finding the appropriate practice space. In my own case, I've lived next door to children learning how to play violin. It sounds like somebody is killing a cat. To me that's the sweetest sound in the world, because every time you hear it, you know there is an eight year old child is learning to play the violin.

I ACTUALLY need this as I live in an apartment on the third floor with PAPER thin walls and floors, and the simple act of stepping on my pedals makes it sound like I'm stomping around like a Rhino to my downstairs neighbors. I've been unable to play for months because of noise complaints.

I had a roland kit at a townhouse - neighbor complained brutally the first day I got it. The pads are very loud and the kick vibrates the entire floor. I wouldn't do electronic drums again unless I owned a house.

No, they don't hear that. The worst are the vibrations in the ground. Put your kit on a rubber tray.

This man has great talent. I've been playing since I was 12 ish and I'm much older, so I can tell he is very good. He's missing very few actual played beats which is very noticeable. I have to admit, as a drummer I would much prefer to hear someone hammering away on a real kit, as loud as they may be and this video is a very good example of why.lmao That double bass action was really quite solid though. The point of the video is well received! Lmao It kinda reminds me of someone who has made an entire set of drums using only percussion blocks of different sizes!!!lmao😂😆👍🙏🙏🙏

It’s always good to have nice neighbours I play guitar and bass and drums (but don’t have a kit) and I can have it up as loud as I need and if they want it down I’ll turn it down and my mate plays piano which you can hear from the other side and they all say they love us playing the music

As a property manager, I can testify that real drums played reasonably well at a respectable volume are much more appreciated than a "caveman" playing full force on practice pads or electronic drums.
@radiomandelbrot58682 жыл бұрын
real drums don't do "respectable volume"
@ChunkyPuke4me2 жыл бұрын
@@radiomandelbrot5868 it's called "finesse". And, actually, most studio players play lighter than you might expect. However, I'll also cite a quote from Tony Williams: "asking a drummer not to play loud is like asking a trumpet player not to sound brassy." The respectable volume is in reference to the compromise and empathy the drummer must use to be allowed to play in an apartment in consideration of neighbors.
@radiomandelbrot58682 жыл бұрын
@@ChunkyPuke4me dude, I'm a professional musician, and my partner, whom I met in our music program at uni, is a drummer. I know all there is to know about that shit. And for having spent countless days and nights in practice cubicles, studios, jazz bars and on stages, I sure as hell can guarantee that there is absolutely no way to play the drums at what most landlords and apartment neighbours (which I also have a lot of experience with since, you know, music is only high paying for the 0,1%) would consider a "reasonable volume". It's more like a good way to have the police knocking on your door with noise complaints, and your landlord sending you a formal notice if you don't stop. Even acoustic pianos are considered too noisy for apartment buildings, let alone drums. Also, as I learned in my sound physics classes, a sound wave only needs to be longer than an object to traverse it, and drums produce a LOT of soundwaves that can easily penetrate apartment ceilings and walls. Which is why, when someone was practicing the drums, even at reasonable volumes, in college, we could hear them in all of the wing. Buildings need to be specially designed for this not to happen.
@ChunkyPuke4me2 жыл бұрын
@@radiomandelbrot5868 congratulations on all your grand achievements. you must be a superstar by now. I'm a musician, drummer and property manager. You can go deep into all the science, but there are ways to keep a large 8 pc drum set and cymbals well below 90dbl. But you know better than everyone, so enjoy the gaps in your knowledge and experience!
@radiomandelbrot58682 жыл бұрын
@@ChunkyPuke4me lol you just sound like some bitter American boomer but sure bro, whatever surely the only possibility is how little I know and not, perhaps, some differences in apartment laws, regulations and culture. Nice ego you got there. That being said, 90 *dB* is fucking ridiculous as a "reasonable volume" parameter. It's like someone shouting at the top of their lungs, which is enough to be heard by more than your immediate neighbours. Anything that produces more than 55 dB at the outer limits of your home is considered a public nuisance if it's more than occasional. And practicing is not supposed to be occasional. Maybe you forgot that, at your age.
