What if it were possible to dramatically improve your dog’s focus, skills and overall behaviour just by changing the questions you are asking? There’s no magic pixie dust, but it is possible for everyone. Reinforcement based training requires outside- the-box thinking. Anyone can become a resourceful solutions-based dog trainer, and I’m giving you the four-step process I share with all of my students.
In the episode you'll hear:
• About swapping old thinking to new thinking.
• Why the human brain is an amazing computer.
• How to ask better questions.
• The challenge with social media darkness and drama.
• Why we humans have more compassion for strangers than ourselves.
• How you are already answering dog training questions with great ideas.
• That you are somebody’s expert.
• About knowing what to do next with your dog.
• The four-step process for posting a dog training question.
• How to get your brain to give you amazing answers.
• The importance of empowering statements.
• How to get the best support and help with the way you ask questions.
• How to have conversations with your family and friends about your dog.

I listen to your podcast every day on the way to work. Please don’t stop making them!! They are my favorite and I’ve shared them with so many friends and family. Both with dog experience and without. They appreciate the practical advice. I think everyone can fall into the trap of feeling this way from sometime or another. Thanks for helping remind us to pick ourselves back up! And thank you for touching on the family members and how we can work to slowly get them on board, and if they don’t want to be on board, that it is ok! 💜

This is a Godsend. You are a Godsend. Your approach is influencing the way I’m teaching myself how to enjoy life and my pet. I’ve been so depressed. You’re helping me so much. You are appreciated. May the Lord bless you.

New subscriber. I love your approach and your podcasts! Yesterday a neighbour told me about you and I've been watching your videos ever since. Changing the questions we ask ourselves not only are great for working with our dogs, but with the rest of our lives. Great relationship advice in general, and a well-timed reminder for me. Thank you, Susan!

Empowering questions .... ask them and empower OTHERS to get involved... this is a new approach to get my boys engaged. I have been trying to teach them treat diving/IYC and they are receptive to try; when they see Toby respond to them like he responds to me, it is very cool. Thanks, Susan.

I just found this video and I wish I’d had it at the beginning of my HSTD back in February! The team is/was most helpful but I’m sure I could have been clearer with this format at hand. Also, perhaps now I may actually answer some of my own questions! What a concept! Thank you!

You've described pretty much what I do at work :) I often demonstrate IYC to as many dog owners as I can (sometimes to prevent them from feeling frustrated while waiting for their vet appointment, so the main question is "hey, can I play a game with your dog while you're waiting?") and then follow up with an email referring them to your podcast or KZfaq videos.

"What I have, what I want, and how do I get there." So important and a great reminder as I try to solve my dog's recent over the top barking behavior. Would love you to address unwanted excessive alarm barking. Thanks! 💕💕❤️

This was so helpful. My husband adores our 9 month old Cocker Spaniel but I do all the training. I have had the need to correct his attempts to help, eg. When trying to teach Toby the value of his bed/mat, my husband was feeding him treats straight to his mouth. I asked him to put the treats on the mat and he looked at me as if to say Really? What the? Now I feel I can reword my instructions thx to this podcast. Thank you, Susan!

Great information! Confession time: I just posted for the first time as a new member on Home School the Dog...and I think I did it a bit wrong. Not a woe is me but I was over whelmed and whined a bit...sorry! I'll rethink my phrasing better next time.

My brain just keeps quiet when I'm the one that needs help. 😑 That aside, thank you for a reminder of how much more work I have to put in my own communication skills!😥 My mother has drilled the "blame game" into me so much that even after years of therapy I still can't quite get out of it being the default state, and I hate that. 😞

I was trying to enroll in your online course yesterday Ma'am but what came up was, in order to be able to join was asking for my credit card number and its vcc , me not knowing any better and having a sense of confidence happily obliged but right after I hit the payment button, suddenly it said sorry we can't get to you, sensing something was wrong, I called my bank to permanently block my credit card, Susan I don't really think it was you maybe there is a scammer using your link. . I still want to join the wag nation, I'll find some other way... Thanks a lot diy this podcast that I learned a lot from, more power and may God keep you and your dogs safe ah the time, God bless🐶❤️👏👍🙏

How do we put reviews on podcast. I listen to both iTunes and KZfaq. I like KZfaq better as I like to watch and listen. I’m going to check out again on iTunes and see how I can do a rating. Your videos are awesome, well presented and filled with hands on knowledge. I just recently put your podcasts out to a lady who wants info on sleepovers throughout the night. Not her, the puppy. lol. I hope she takes it up and does look , listen and learn. Happy life, happy dogs . Never a dumb question. I love This !
