Starting new channel on KZfaq can be really tough, so I knew I couldn't afford to waste months trying to get noticed by just a handful of people. Instead of spending months to get few hundred subscribers, I found a shortcut to kickstart organic growth after reaching my first 1000 subs (by using a bit of Famester of course). Once that happened, my main channel has experienced a significant surge, and I have realized that people tend to focus on numbers when searching for content. Having a low subscriber count often means being overlooked, even if your content is top-notch...

I am almost 72-year-old and I have had a KZfaq channel since March of 24 but I have only put three very short videos on it. I have never been on camera and I have never talked to a camera before and it terrifies me and I know it shouldn't. I am ashamed of it because I have wanted to make videos for about 8 years. I think I will bite the bullet and finally make one this week! Thanks!

Oh very interesting! I haven't heard that one before, insider info...how cool! Thank you for sharing. How-to channels I think are a brilliant idea. I know this probably isn't your target market, but I know many widows over 75 that are still living in their homes and have no idea how to fix things like a toilet or replace batteries in say lights on the stove or simple house maintenance because their husbands did it for them. I think they benefit greatly from youtube and I am watching it empower many of the women who feel embarrassed or alone at this time in their life. But anyway, How-to channels are what I spend most of my time on in youtube and I always find the answers I need. So fabulous channel! xoxo Thank you for watching and commenting and I am going to see how many min. I have uploaded now. haha :)

Absolutely 💯 . After 3+ years of procrastination about starting my channel, I finally launched. And it’s an immense sense of inner fulfillment. Am also niching down to catering to Gen Xr’s but also to include all (Boomers, Gen Z..) . It’s remarkable because the war is really you vs you. I’m in corporate right now (finance, fintech), and the stress is brutal. It’s exactly what pushed me off the edge to begin this journey as I want to quit this job! But also keeping in mind, that I’m not eyeing this here as an immediate $ ticket. I LOVE this first and foremost! Keep up the good work!

@@AlexaSaarenoja it is so worth it. In fact I built out the studio in my condo which already had a den. But then I froze and couldn't find the will to hit record. I kept looking for excuses. Our Gen X'rs can really be a voice in era and there's so much to bring to the table from just an experience standpoint. I might just quit soon enough here, lol. It's a big risk. But my gut says this will payoff! You have a new sub here 🙂
@AlexaSaarenoja
@AlexaSaarenoja 14 күн бұрын
@@lifebehindthereels Hey again! :) I think it is worth it and having a clear focus helps propel forward. It looks like you are in the health and wellness arena - that's great! I know for me, in regards to your niche, I've noticed my body needs different training than it did when I was younger and it appreciates calmer workouts. For example, I did everything HIIT younger and more combative like TKD, Kickboxing and Krav Maga, but as I got older, my body didn't like to take punches anymore and it felt better with walking, stretching, calesthetics and wegith training. If your focus is genx + you could consider doing a video that bridges both gen X plus what're more important as the body ages. Like especially women of Genx and more were taught cardio or bust, but in fact we lose a great percentage of muscle every year after 30 and thus training with weights and gaining muscle after a certain age is an important focus for not only gaining but retaining what we have. I'm rambling but I think if you target some of your topics bridging both gen x and fitness or wellness it could catch more eyes. Not trying to tell you what to do, just want to help give you some ideas. For example I watched one of your flexibility videos where you were in the park, I was interested to see what you do for that. I really want my body to be agile and strong. I think the topic you have has incredible potential so I hope you don't give up! xoxo Thank you for the sub and for watching. I appreciate it.

@@AlexaSaarenoja I can't tell you how grateful I am for this very careful feedback and note! As you say this, and while I have been recording a lot lately, focusing on Gen X and this niche seem to be landing well! And I did a recent video on mobility/stretching as well that I am leaving here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMqjprqG3eDUnHk.html. Thanks for watching that park video, because in that clip, I am showcasing pretty explosive movements (Brazil Capoeira). So what you saw there, is really the final product of what I have been doing my entire life behind the scenes as you will see in this vid. I intend to continue expanding on this very topic the more I am finding a stride! THANK YOU AGAIN!! I hope you find this stretching video helpful! Stay tuned for more!

I just need to be consistent! I am a single working mom of 3 and I just struggle with time management.
@AlexaSaarenoja
@AlexaSaarenoja 18 күн бұрын
I can understand that! You must be exhausted too. One benefit of not having enough time is you really know how to maximize the time you do have, because you know you don't get much of it. At least that's what happened to me when I became a mom. I stopped wasting time on things that didn't matter. Perhaps I should do a video on how to post videos on a tight "time" budget. I'm currently working on a free starter kit for new youtube wanting to get to their first 500 subs, but now that you mention this time thing I will have to add in a section about how to do it in minimal time! Carve out time when you can, but also remember to rest when you can...I know it's nuts being a mom and trying to do a side hustle. But when and if you find the time, I think it will fill up your cup. Best of luck to you!! Thank you for watching. I appreciate it. Thinking of you mama!

I had a bit of a youtube hangover this morning, doubting whether I should have shared so much, overthinking how I should have added I am not bitter, it was nothing personal to lose my job, etc. But nice to hear at least from your opinion it was received well. The emotional rollercoaster is an interesting one with posting videos..."should I have done that...eeek, yea it was good, no wait was it?! AHHH!" haha good times, just keep heading forward right?! Yes, I think I will consider a live. I mean what's the worst that could happen I say " I don't know, but I can research and get back to you?" That's not so bad! I still have visitors and have not been able to watch this completely yet but, regarding your other comment about employers. Remember employers are in the same boat. They spend years training employees just to see them move on to the next best offer. If it is a key employee it can really hurt the business. It's not always that they are making big bucks off the employee but, they must hold to budgets and are trying to make a profit in order to stay in business. They must do that if the company is to remain in business and survive, just like the employee who has a budget sometimes must move on.
@AlexaSaarenoja
@AlexaSaarenoja 19 күн бұрын
Yes, good point! And I thought about how I didn't add in that it was nothing personal, it's just businesses looking out for their bottom line. Yes, I agree it's an investment to hire and train employees and unfortunately, the loyalty isn't always there because most often to jump up in income you need to leave the company and seek out another. So yes, I could have portrayed both sides a bit better. To be honest I think that video although encouraging was a bit whinny too...but live and learn. I also think I should have edited out the etsy part, because even though that was my experience it is not everyone's experience on etsy and it was such a short period of time. So yeah...not my best video overall, but hopefully it still inspires people. The biggest takeaway for me, was learning, that trying to produce videos with sick kids is not as fruitful. I should have some back up videos for those weeks. :) But anyway, I agree with you is my point!

I''m only 4 minutes in and will have to continue later but, I can so relate. After graduating from college I entered the corperate world as a civil drafter. Ink on Mylar drafting. Prior to college I had a couple other careers but, drafting was my chosen career. I spent ten years working my way up to a management position. Then, in 1980 the computer age began. No more, highly skilled, ink on mylar drawing by hand. Civil engineers suddenly started "contracting" design out instead of hiring employees. I was out of a job! I realized then any employer could and would let you go if technology changed or for what ever reason. Since then I have been self employed. I or my customers are the only ones that can let me go. The flip side is a key employee can quit and leave the employer wanting.
@AlexaSaarenoja
@AlexaSaarenoja 20 күн бұрын
Yes all so true. The flipside as you said as well. I hope that with this youtube revolution and so many people able to make a living on their own, companies will start valuing employees more...but maybe that time is long off. Wow total respect for you and mylar drafting...the time and energy that goes into making changes to hand drawings is insane and just hand drafting alone. It's a lost art. Hand drawings are simply a work of art. :)

@@richardhyatt-beekeeping What lies ahead is unknown, but my perspective on change and evolution of life, is finding ways to evolve with it. That being said, people crave the opposite in a world dominated by one thing. For example, after the Industrial Revolution, the Arts and Crafts Movement was born. After eating processed foods for decades, home cooking and homesteading is finding it's place again. I do honestly believe humans appreciate the abilities and talents of humans...the world will definitely transform with AI, but there is something familiar and comforting of things made by hand. And maybe I am old school but I still get photos of my kids done at a studio. :) Thank you for your comment. The one thing that does bug me though is how it is becoming really difficult to decipher between what is AI generated and what is not. It was a big problem when I was teaching at the university. Students no longer came up with their own ideas, which is scary, because then they are not using the most powerful machine in the world - their brains. What doesn't get exercised, atrophies. eek! xoxo

@@AlexaSaarenoja By the nature of the word, students, are learning from others and what they find online.. The key is to teach them to think for themselves. A walk in the woods or down a dirt road is where they learn to think for themselves. We are bombarded with thoughts from others and now, Ai. If someone picks up a hammer and slams it into their thumb. That is self taught. I'm enjoying our dialog. My life has certainly been an evolution. Ok, it the last few days I've had company. In between conversations I installed Bridge, Photoshop and Premier Pro on my new MacBook Pro. All of which I didn't know how to do because of the new operating system and compatibility issues. And, I finally got my Bluetooth Bose headset connected so, I could watch KZfaq when others were doing something else. So, Alexa, you just got another 22+ minutes of watch time. Whew! You are so optimistic! I've been waiting to turn the clock on 700 subs for a couple days. This morning I went from 699 to 698! That is not so much that discourages me as going from 577 hours of public watch time to 579 hours of public watch time over a 3 week period! In another 3.5 years, maybe, I'll have 4,000 hours of public watch time. OK, ok, it won't take that long, I'm telling myself. And, I'm really confident. @@AlexaSaarenoja My strategy had many different aspects, impossible to discuss them all here, but I'll try to bring up some key points. For one, I spent a fair bit of time looking for a video idea that had the potential to go big. To do that you need to find a whole bunch of channels in your niche to see if they have a golden nugget video. The smaller the channels are the better, but midsize is ok too. So if you see that they have a video that has gotten waaaay more views than they have subscribers and usually way more views than their other videos get, then that's a potential video idea (pending further research on what other videos have been made on the topic and the competition). It doesn't have to be the exact same topic/title. In fact, it's almost always best to find a different angle. So for example, if there are 50 videos hyping product A, it's best to do a video about all the downsides, warning about product A. Fear is a great view-driver ;) However, this strategy can get you views, but not necessarily subscribers. The subscribers come from either or both of 2 things - value and personality. So if you put a lot of effort into quality (research, story, editing) in my opinion, even though it takes much longer to make a video, in the long run, it saves you time over making 100 so-so half-effort videos. If you have a strong personality and sense of humor you will always grow faster, but it's important to be your authentic self. There's a lot more that goes into it, including thumbnails, titles, and so on, but I would say this sums up my initial strategy in a nutshell.

@@Luneyland Owah. Thank you for taking the time to write that all out and explain your process I appreciate it. Yes, I try to do deep research on ideas that seem like potential gems, but I have also gotten distracted with other things as well. I do think this is such a strong strategy and your channel proves it. All the videos I have posted that were solid and researched, like you said many more views to amount of subs on the channel did really well on my channel as well. Transforming that video by taking a different angle - genius! :) xoxo Thank you again!

good morning from California USA Hi Alexa! You did it! or rather I did it. .I set up my camera (phone) and started recording this morning. I have been making sleep sound videos because I wanted to be on YT but I was leery about actually being on camera. That bug a boo is gone! I thought I would totally cringe watching the playbacks but I didn't. I like what I see! I have a couple of channels set up but never used. What are your thoughts on posting the new content with me talking on my sleep sounds channel? I'm 65 and been making them since Feb. 2024 I enjoy making them but have really been wanting to find a way to make my channel more useful than just helping people get to sleep, and frankly , it's a tough niche to break into. With 6000 hours watch time, 22,000 views and 100's of thousands if impressions, CTR is good and avg watch time is 15 mins, I still only have 141 subscribers. I have tons of life experience to share with people. Thanks for motivating me. and P.S. you are the only "Alexa" for me - a real live person!! All the Best, Elizabeth

Hi! I share such a similar story! Btw, you were at 540 subs when you uploaded this 2 weeks ago and now you have more than 2k subs? How is that possible??? I share a similar story! Had a great well paying job for 7 years and i recently started ramping up my youtube channel with the goal of growing it and monetizing it, then a day later i was let go from my job. Couldn't believe it. Now I'm the meantime I'm doing Uber but NOT giving up on youtube and in a way i feel more free

Hi Alexa! I love your spirit. I’ve been making videos for over three years now and am still struggling to reach at least 500 subscribers. I’m happy if I get a few likes, but it would be wonderful, of course, to get monetized too. Still, I’m okay with that because I enjoy the process of editing and posting my finished videos. In a way, it’s my personal diary. Thank you for the inspiration! God bless you & your family.🙏🏼❤👍🤗

If someone can find or carve out a few hours a week, they can upload 1 video and respond to comments on their phone in between. You already have 33 subs, that's great! You're on your way. Thank you again for watching! xoxo
