Getting the wall flat behind the box is quite tricky and can be deceptive as a small lump will make it feel like the box doesn't fit. I ended up going too deep and needing something to pack the wall back out (I used cardboard from a box) but it didn't feel good. Practice makes perfect

Congratulations on such craftsmanship with the angle grinder for the wall box cut, is one of the neatest I have seen. I myself use an Arbortech Brick Saw with wall box blade & chase the walls with a Makita wall chaser with dust attachments....makes for effortless work & less cleanup ....enjoyed your post. Greetings from Australia

Here in Portugal the electrical box and fitment seems very difficult to set up perfect in an old stone wall any ideas to simplify the fixing to a rigid Square / level result . Tgank you
@polla2256
@polla2256 3 жыл бұрын
In stone I'd probably surface mount and use some cable trunking or if you have plaster surface mount the socket and channel the cables into the plaster with entry from the rear of the surface box.

Keep a safety cover on the grinder, if that disc breaks, you'll have some nasty cuts

Question do you have to use bonding on the channel can't you just use filler?
@how2d223
@how2d223 6 жыл бұрын
Easyfilla or polyfilla is just for the finish off as you can put only few mm thick, otherwise it will crack . With bonding you can cover larger holes or chunks of missing plaster and you can fill up to few cm. So I always fill it with bonding first and then some filler or multifinish plaster on top it depends if I'm going to do the whole wall or just fill what's missing. Cheers

I thought that under current regulations that the cable had to be protected against drilling by being put into metal conduit or covered by a metal channel before being sealed into the wall.
@how2d223

These cables will be protected by 30mA RCD so it doesn't need metal conduit

No need for any conduit if fit with RCD. When you run longer bits you use conduit oyherwise your cables are around the place.
@sparkythommo
@sparkythommo 4 жыл бұрын
@Chand B the cable needs to be protected from the plaster which is applied when finished. you can use plastic capping to do this if your cables are protected by a 30mA RCD at the fuseboard. If not you must use suitably earthed metal capping as per regulations.
