Here in Namibia you buy a rifle and then have to apply for a licence. Once that is approved (about 1 month of waiting) you can go fetch the rifle from the store. So... there I am. All I own is a Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk. 2 and I am dreaming of of long-range and PRS. I decide on 6.5 Creedmoor as the caliber I want. My dad and I are in arguments daily about how the Creedmoor is just a marketing gimmick and all that. 4 Months ago there is a sale on Howa 1500 Barreled actions at a local gun store. I find this channel and what I see about Howa's impresses me. I decide to take the plunge. A month later, I have my Howa 1500 Barreled action (26" Heavy Barrel) in 6.5 Creedmoor dropped into a Boyd's At-One stock. I bed the action and put pillars in the stock as well. I do some load development and I take my dad shooting a few weekends back. At the time I had a 6x fixed zoom hunting scope and this rifle but I start shooting steel at 600m and with every trigger pull, there's a hit. I let my dad shoot. Same story. The next day he buys THE EXACT SAME RIFLE in 6.5 Creedmoor. So, Steven/Stephen, your videos resulted in the sale of 2 Howa 1500's in a small African country. I hope you are happy now.

You most likely have your rifle by now but from the amount of information I have seen and read about the 6.5CM it is an excellent round for PRS & long range shooting it shoots flatter than the .308 and maintains supersonic speeds for longer ranges so I hope you have chosen the Howa in the UK there is a 14 week wait for the police to do their background checks and then they visit you to make sure you have a gun safe etc. before you get your FAC and can then go and buy a rifle but as soon asmy FAC is approve I will be buying a Howa APC in 6.5CM

Stephen - I bought my Howa 1500 largely based on your reviews and I have never regretted it. The Legacy warranty is "sub MOA out of the box with match ammo" and it has lived up to that name. Mine is the 6.5 CM. Beyond the 20 break-in rounds, I have a total of 181 rounds downrange while searching for a factory round it prefers. The average of those rounds is 1.2 MOA and includes some economy rounds. Settled in on Hornady American Gunner (140 grain) and the average of those rounds is 0.9 MOA for 96 shots. All with a box-stock rifle and factory ammo. I'm a big fan of the HOWA 1500.

In good old days, like mauser M96, M98, US springfield M1903, Those bolt and bolt handle are all in one piece forged structures. Of course , it is not easy for machining. However, lots of companies started to make bolt and bolt handle in two pieces then welded ,soldering or screw together to save the COST.

... good video, i whole heartedly agreed, Howa makes a solid, reliable rifle. I own two. If weatherby uses their action for their vanguard rifles, you know they are extremely good quality. Just built a Howa 1500 in 6mm Creedmoor. Brownells had the barreled actions on sale for $250 and I couldn’t pass it up. I love the thing. I will say I’m not the biggest fan of the HACT trigger’s feel when comparing it to my CZ which has a beautiful single set trigger (at a slightly higher price point). But when I compare it to my remington there’s no contest. I will definitely be building more Howa’s in the future and maybe try out the timney replacement trigger.

@ Michael - I did a spring kit replacement with a kit rated for 2.0 lbs. Turned out to be 1 lbs and the sear would not hold with a 12" safety check. Be sure to do the drop test if you get down that low. (my kit was from www.gunbloke.com. )

Love the HOWA’s. I’ve got a number of them and I’ve done quite a bit with them on my channel (2 Clicks Up), which is worth a look. Their out-of-the-box accuracy and their reliability at the price point they are has made them hugely popular for years here in Australia. I use them for hunting, and they have not let me down. In fact, I’ve just bought a used HOWA 270 at a good price, which is a little project rifle. Good vid, by the way. Keep ‘em coming.

I was skeptical buying a used Howa 1500 from my local shop, but the day I got it out to the range... I don't understand why anyone would trade this firearm in! My Howa 1500 in 22-250 is my go-to varmint rifle more than my AR platform rifles now. Sub moa out to 400 with Nosler Varmageddon tipped flat bottom bullets in handloads are a dream to shoot with this. Even the what appeared at first to be a crappy scope, the Nikko Stirling, that came with it, performs great and holds true. Best $400 I've ever spent on a rifle.

I bought a Howa 1500 H7 chassis rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor a year ago, up to that time I had a Savage 12FV in the same caliber. Thought about upgrading the stock on the Savage at $500 but thought I would look around. I had a Howa 555 in 243 back in the day, absolute tack driver so I though I'd look at them again. Glad I did, got mine for $200 over the price of just the stock for the Savage. The 12FV was a very accurate rifle posting 1/3rd moa 5 shot groups if I did my part but that Howa with the same blueprinted handloads dropped my group size another .040" or so everything being equal. I have shot a best 5 round group sub-1/2 moa (1.360") at 330 yards with Hornady ELDm 140gr bullets. What's not to love ?

I agree with the assessment of Howa rifles. I bought a barreled action on a whim, for $270, and after once I got a stock and scope I tested it out. It’s not picky with ammo for one, and it’s made with quality. Affordable and quality made. I want to say they follow the CIP chambering? SAAMI is a North American/US chamber spec, so I wouldn’t be surprised if HOWA’s are CIP. CIP supposed has a longer throat and so it isn’t as ammo picky and doesn’t follow the principle of chasing the lands and get close with minimal bullet jump. I want to do a Howage build in probably a 6mm ARC. We’ll see. I enjoy the content. Wouldn’t mind seeing you stretch the legs on a rifle at distance. Thank you, Isaac

I've seen you do a lot of reviews of the Howa 1500 - thanks! It would be interesting if Howa would make a "Model 1500+" or, maybe a "1600" that is higher quality with tighter tolerances, etc. It would be more accurate and would surely sell (people pay $1,300 for a Defiance Action in the Remington 700 footprint - and that's the Action only). Hi, I bought a weatherby vanguard chamber in 243 win about 10 years ago and was very happy with it. I find out howa was made in the same factory and what do you know I am buying a howa 1500 mini action stainless varmint chamber in 223 rem. I just love the way they are build. And thet are very affordable for the quality.

Nothing wrong with Tikka's bedding system. Pair the Tikka with a steel lug, and it's solid. I'd like to see real-world examples of Tikka's recoil lug system causing accuracy problems. I like Howa rifles, but Tikka is a cut above the rest. Tikka's tolerances are tight enough you can put a prefit on it. In fact, Tikka basically has a bunch of prefits already made that they simply pull from the shelf and put on during assembly. Howa does not have that capability. I've worked for a few manufacturers and have seen this in person. I agree though, Howa is an excellent rifle.

My two gripes against Howa, the firing pin hole in the bolt is too f@#$$%% big and I wish they would come from Howa with 24" barrel options for non magnum chamberings. Neither one is a deal breaker and I think they are like you said a superb value and almost bomb proof.

My dad has a 80's vintage Weatherby Vanguard 8n 300 win mag that is a pretty good rifle, after addressing the muzzle jump issue with magnaporting. I took one on a trade in 2010 that was almost new, chambered in 243. That was was straight up junk. I couldn't get it to shoot anything. Including reloads. I'm sure some of this was due to it having the absolute WORST trigger I've ever felt. It felt like there was sandpaper on every friction surface in the trigger group. Once you had powered through the ocean of sand and creep, the pull was between 5 and 6 lbs and broke like oatmeal. I recouped my money by selling it, and felt guilty the whole time about putting that thing in anybody else's hands.

It's easy to adjust the Howa 1500 trigger lighter. There's even a really simple mod to lighten it even lower than the adjustment screw allows. From my observations, the cerakoted Vanguard actions felt a little smoother because of the coating. Maybe there was a little more attention to the details but I didn't have a Howa side by side with a Vanguard.

Idk about any other cartridge but I have the mini action in 223 and it has more jump to the lands with factory ammo than I thought it should. The magazine is longer than the 2.26 inch Sami spec so I’m able to hand load them longer than Sammi spec so it’s not a problem on my mini action. Idk about the others but the magazine clearance might be on their website hope that helps.

@@Bullets4Bucks Hi there, I havd just tried the Howa 1500 Kryptek...woow what a rifle. With 147gr. Training ammo we made sub MoA at 100 and 150 meters. The bullets went in the same hole and on 150m they were touching each other. Niko Stearling Gameking 16xr44 a cheap scope. The trigger is so smooth and recoil is next to nothing in my opinion due to heavy barrel. We had 30 shots and at 25°C outside temp the barrel was not even warm enough. I will use the 7mag to shoot shorter ranges in dense areas so would like to be able to do 175 gr. Would the 1in10 twist ratio really limit me to shooting only 150 and 16gr bullets? Can you tell me your opinion on Howa HS Precision vs Weatherby Vanguard S2? Weatherby is 300$ cheaper in Canada, and as far as I can read, are pratically the same as a Howa except for the stock." Can you give any insight as to why I can justify 300$ more on a Howa HS precision vs a Weatherby Vanguard S2?
@Bullets4Bucks
@Bullets4Bucks 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, the s2 has a cheap synthetic stock with pillar bedding. The barrel is not free floated and the stock flexes. Thing ruger american quality. The Howa HS precision comes with a fiberglass and kevlar reinforced stock. The stock has a full aluminum bedding block. Zero flex and very ridged. The rifles are identical only the bolt is straight fluted on the Vanguards. No real difference. Both are made by Howa in Japan. The vanguard stock isn't worth 100 dollars if you ask me. The hs precision is msrp 400 and its worth every penny.
