Shes not a good singer though, at least for this genre of music. Dynamics were not there, she has way too much breathe in he voice, melody was simple and uninventive. Plain and simple, there were alot more better singers on the show

When a judge is disrespectful, hateful and completely disregards the contestant's feelings to a point where he looses all respect and empathy in the way they talk to them, that's when you know they shouldn't be judging. She writes a song for her grandmother who passed away, a song that quite literally gave her her voice back after losing it with such a tragedy, and he has the guts to say that the song 'is nothing'? What kind of human does that?

I definitely agree! There is a different way to say that you don't like the song, and even though you don't, it's all about the talent you show! I think Madilyn's song was really hearfelt and it brought me to tears!! The only performances good to Howie are "comedy" ones……

I just want to point out that I didn’t even noticed the “voice crack”. I was not distracted at all. There was so much emotion and that’s what music is for most. Absolutely beautiful! 💕🎶

I heard it but its understandable if she was feeling really emotional, even the best singers can't sing well if they are holding in tears. Plus, she covered it up really well with the falsetto right after so it wasnt obvious at all!

Her thing isn’t just being “quirky”. She can be happy, silly, deep, angry, sad, whatever she wants to be. We’re not set into one style or emotion. Besides, I always found the two songs held a similar theme. Creating something beautiful out of something that hurts.

Except he gushed over Brian Justin Crum that time over his rendition of _Creep,_ which was definitely not a stand-up comedy set with a backing track, like what he seems to want out of this performance. Plus, rudeness to her tribute to a dead relative? Or to her sex? At some point, this all smacks of some arbitrary roleplay by the judges. "Reality TV" -- right!

I could respect Howie if his criticism was constructive, but he was just plain out rude, he didn’t help her in any way (and when judging he is meant to). Her song was heartfelt, true to her, and you could hear the raw emotion in her voice. That is authentic TALENT! He claims the quirky songs are what he liked but he failed to see what the song with the hate comments actually represented, it means to keep moving forward when you get thrown obstacles, not to by “quirky”. Not only did Howies lack of ethical reasoning upset me, but when he said “this was nothing” infuriated me. He insulted a beautifully written song, with so much meaning behind it. If he can’t see the talent this girl posses he’s crazy! I have lost my respect for Howie, because he has lost sight of the meaning of the show. Being funny and quirky aren’t everything and he seems to have forgotten that. If you ask me, I feel his judging career should come to an end. (Just an opinion of mine)

This is the thing i hate like the way people try to put someone in boxes...she sang that hate comment song once and everyone's branded her as the hate comments singer and so they don't like her branching out and singing beautiful, heartfelt songs that speak about her life experience and the things she's been through. No artist should be made to do just one thing....in fact artists who can do both fun and quirky songs as well as deep, meaningful and emotional songs are the best because that just shows how diverse their talent is

howie should not have a word, he is plain incompetent. he judges based on if he likes a song or genere. he did that several times in the show. that said, madilyn is a good songwriter and i understand that she made some mistakes because of her emotional state. thats ok and normal. however i fear her own song would need a better singer than her, at least in the way she presented it there. she isnt celine dion but that would be more the type of singer i would see for this thing. im not saying she is bad, she isnt just that type of artist. its like asking a country star to to sing opera

I haven’t watched the show in full, just clips on KZfaq but I have never heard Howie be so rude! So is hundreds of thousands of people, being able to sing and write songs isn’t what makes you special, it’s what you sing and what you write that does. So many people have this same talent you have to set yourself at a different standard than everybody else to be acknowledged.

I'll agree that she is not the best singer in this show, in fact, I do not believe that she will make it to the finale as much as i wish she would, but do not discredit her to those who felt something from her. She has a platform and fans who supported her before this song came into the picture. You say you can't do what she does because the music you like isn't mainstream or liked by an audience, but like Madelyn, you could find a way to connect to people who like the same stuff you do and maybe be a doorway to the genre of music you sing. Red ribbon is an amazing song and madilyn sang it amazingly, it really showed off her vocals and she sounded absolutely phenomenal. Her voice is beautiful, talented and shows her emotions. Howie was plain out rude, I get everyone had their own opinion but he did not need to say it like that. Simon had a great reaction and so did Heidi. Howie was basically just saying like he did in the quarter finals that he only rlly liked her hate comments song, but yet the public kept voting for her because she had an amazing voice, and Simon has supported her from day 1, and he is the toughest egg to crack as people like to say.

I agree with Howie, which is rare! My opinion is she needed something to stop the slippage of TV audience, so she pulled out the pity card. You can’t expect someone to be “quirky” all the time the same way you can’t expect someone to be “happy” all the time, she’s a human being and she made songs based off of emotions she was feeling. She doesn’t fall into any one emotional category with her music. It’s unfair to require her to stay in the “quirky” box of music and shut her down whenever she moves to a different style.

People are _definetly_ going through a lot worst stuff then hate comments, but Mad was in no way shape or form asking for pity, nor was she implying that she deserves any. I can't believe how many people think Madylin was trying to gain any pity. She didn't take the hate comments seriously you know, _that's why she made it into a fun song._ In fact, she was doing that on her channel for a while. When everyone was encouraging her to sing an original song instead of a cover, she decided to sing the song that was a HIT on KZfaq and that was "Red Ribbon." I love it, my family loves it, and it's honestly one of her best original songs. His comments about her as a "girl, lady woman... person," was so freaking awkward (and this isn't the first semi finalist he was awkward with), and he said this song was "nothing." Sure, even I don't think Mad was the best singer in the semi finals but he DEFINETELY could've worded it better.

This was an amazing performance what did Howie hear during this performance, it was so good I got chills those runs and that break I love hearing a genuine person singing with no autotune.

Madilyn has so much talent and drive, and it’s horrible to see someone say something like that on television, but that won’t ever change my opinion of her. She inspires me everyday to improve my own singing. This song spoke to me on a lot of levels. Well done Madilyn, be proud and don’t ever stop being you. ❤️✨

Idk what howie heard but what I heard and I’m sure what many of us heard was a talented singer spilling out all her emotions into a song for a loved one. As a performer, I can guarantee that it takes so much to not break down and voice crack when you’re singing something so intimate on stage in front of hundreds of people. I loved this performance and it goes to show how raw those feelings and her talents are!

“Same Lane as Tori” - Tori is amazing too.. she has an amazing Broadway voice and Howie told her he’s voting no because he doesn’t like musical theatre. Not really sure he has an ear for music.. he’s not a musician nor Simon Cowell who’s created amazing singers through the X factor

@@lunarwhiplash1880 But Simon is a genius when it comes to finding musical talent, and he would never in a million years call a song that was written by a very talented contestant about their deceased grandmother “nothing.” I used to really like Howie, but after these last few seasons, I really don’t like him that much anymore. Simon is the epitome of a great judge. Howie is not.

@@matthewwells2017 I wish I could compile a video of good singers that Simon didn't like in his earlier career as a judge on all the shows he was on to prove you wrong. but do your own research before you come at me. as far as howie... he and the reaction from people like you is why I fought for him. Howie put through singers that got close to winning. know your stuff before you get checked. ok?

@@matthewwells2017 Simon is a genius. but if you actually watched enough of all of his shows and maybe not 1 or 2 years... you can see he was getting soft and other judges started to show they were getting "harsh" because Simon wasn't and that spans several showings. across the multiple gt's, x factors and so on

Howie’s comments made me burst into tears, I know how hard it can be preforming or preforming to a song that has an emotional backstory for you. He’s a judge on a talent show, his criticism should be constructive but his criticism was just completely rude. We all love you Madilyn!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This really goes to show how messed up the music industry is. They want you to be a certain way with things even if its not true to yourself. They have you sing or write lyrics they think will blow up and be popular. And i agree with what your saying.
