Nigel didnt go as high because a lot of the energy stored from the drop was shed when the trampoline itself jumped up nearly a foot. If you were able to somehow anchor the legs down, perhaps by driving in meter long lengths of rebar at 45 degree angles in each foot, you might be able to get nigel up to 15-18 meters.

That's totally true came down to the comments to actually say that the heavier they go the more bounce is lost to the trampoline which is why heavier things are not bouncing as high. They should fix the tramp to the ground for better results.

I like the comment, because you’re correct, but remember the original design had the anchors using the ratchet straps? It secured the frame to the ground. They just need to reapply them

If they are dropping from (allegedly) 45m and according to physics the thing could only bounce as high as the initial drop height, they could theoretically make something bounce 44m. And I would love to challenge them to achieve a 44m bounce

@@oneparticularlysmartape the limitations here are the springs, get higher rates springs and they'll be able to bounce bigger! But you can see it bottoming out (reading the lower limit) from the 3rd atlas so that's at its limit which is why the all the bounces after are basically the same hight

There is indeed a limit for how much energy the springs can store but that limit isn't reached since they can stretch more because the ball never hit the ground. Spring energy equation is (1/2)kx^2 where K is spring constant and x is distance stretched. The reason the balls all go to the same height I explained in a post to this video.
