I thought is was an excellent video. This really does help because bounty hunter is a training package of skills in my system of choice (Rolemaster Standard System). So, now I could use that package more effectively. Do you have a video where you list all of the types of sceneries which can be run. A list where bounty hunting would be one entry on that list.

"Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego" Probably the most famous of bounty hunting stories. Players find clues to narrow down what country the person is in order to capture them! As you hinted to with your midpoint talking about more experienced GMing, some of the most enjoyable bounty hunting play comes from narrowing down and piecing together clues. Spend too long chasing clues, and the bounty moves on, guess wrong and you waste time. And that is how I run bounties. I set a plan where the NPC moves on every such and such a time. So it is less follow clues, more try and catch up, encouraging taking risks, roleplay and creativity.

Thanks for this! I've sent it to the guy who's GMing out Edge of Empire campaign... sadly, that probably means that he won't use it, because then we players will know what he's about to do, but we can always live in hope! :-D

Deep Space Nine spotted in the background! I play a Bounty Hunter Astromech Droid in an Edge of the Empire game. No one suspects the Astromech Droid. Equipped with Stun Grenades and Bola Net launchers and a whip and blaster. The other team mates, not Bounty Hunters. Bounties can be tricky! Especially when the Trandoshan cleaved our bounty in half with a Vibroaxe. Had to drag half the corpse through Nar Shaddaa in order to get paid. At least no one bothered us since a tall Trandoshan with a bloody axe and an Astromech dragging 1/3 body across the street isn't something most wanted to interrupt. I love Bounty Hunter, and Droid ^_^

20:38 I have to second comment! "One of the common ploys..." The best example of the disguise as a prisoner failing can be seen in one of my favorite animated movies, "Titan AE", which also led to a favorite one liner of mine. "Intelligent guard... Didnt see that one coming..."

This was fantastic, my group is playing a home brew world where the pantheons of the gods wage an influence war every 500 years to see who will rule for the next 500 years. For 1 year we have been playing and it has been very story and law driven as the group discover the secrets of this Devine War and decide where they stand in it. This has given me a fresh look at how to build adventures in this setting in terms of jobs and requests from gods and/or minions/messengers, as well as how to develop an adventurers guild(that I was already planning to put in before this video) thank you sir you always manage to help me out week after week.👍

I've always liked giving players the option of getting paid up front but then they are on a timeline, which if they failed at timeline then they have a bounty now on their head while they're still trying to finish their current job.

I have a Bounty Hunters, Inc in my world. I used it for side adventures, etc. It is approved by all the empires of the world where bounty’s are tracked. It includes tiers and yearly fees. It has become so popular among my players they regularly ask to join. And whenever they get to town “I’m going to check the bounty hunters, Inc” So yeah, bounty hunters are 😎

Great video. Wish this had came out 4 months ago when D&D Module Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frost Maiden came out. The two starter quests are straight up bounty hunter quests, but apparently that confused everyone. Multiple KZfaq channels recommended changing them to mysteries and adding a lot of stuff to make that work. Seems people don't understand the idea that just because you know who you're after doesn't mean the fun part is over.

New DM (Rated R-go) and my adventure is an end of the world epic game it started a little railroady but soon opened up in to what the characters wanted to do (of course when they went to a new location I would add bits of the big plot to it. I am putting a bounty Hunter sub quest while the Players are recovering from a flying island full of lizard people and a Demon who wants a magical item that the players are collecting to stop the end of the world. So your video came out at a great time. Maybe I will do more mercenary/ Bounty Hunter quests for a while before leading them back on to the main plot. Who knows, it will depend on how the adventure goes. Oh I rate this video 9 out of 10 (I love all your videos)

I think that bounty hunters are a very cool and versatile archtype to play as. You can really mix up the motivations for being one into a lot of different character alignments. For instance are you in the profession because you believe in justice or want to actually help criminals try to turn something around? To bring law and order to this lawless land? Do you prefer to take fugitives alive even if it means a smaller reward? Do you prefer allowing your targets an opportunity to surrender? You sort of become like a rough edged lawful Paladin or government soldier. If you prefer the opposite, killing your prey even if it means less money, taking the opportunity to use aggressive, sneakier, harmful tactics, not offering an opportunity to surrender, believing the adage "alive doesn't mean unharmed", or even darker, prefer killing your targets, then that's more of an evil aligned bounty hunter. Also your professional ethics can change what type of bounty hunter you will be. Are you a professional in it only for the money or the fame? Perhaps the excitement is what draws you in? Are you a psychopath hiding behind a badge as a justification to kill? Are you willing to take contracts on Murderers? Bail jumpers? Slaves? Fugitives? Are you willing to hurt children? The elderly? Pregnant people? Guardians of children? Can you be bribed or bought? Will you work for law enforcement? Criminals? Freelance? These are all important questions. When I think of Bounty Hunter Archetypes I have a few alignment ideas. The Lawbringer: A good aligned bounty hunter might be someone like Duane Chapman from the television series "Dog the Bounty Hunter". A real life bail bondsman from Hawaii, he operates within the bounds of US law, prefers to utilize non-lethal capture (in fact he can apply to be authorized to carry a firearm while working but refuses to), believes in community engagement and building trust to try to track targets, and believes his work is part of trying to reform people through the justice system and through a bit of his personal faith. The Consummate Professional: There are plenty of examples of the more neutral types of bounty hunters and that is where most of them in fiction lie. Either in it for the money or in it for the thrill of the hunt. This area is where you find people like Boba Fett from Star Wars and Zaeed Massanni from Mass Effect, or any number of wild west/samurai movies. They are in it for whatever pays the most, are usually with ethics but have varying attitudes employing more diverse and aggressive methods if they need to. Sometimes they prefer to offer a chance to surrender but will, if the threat is big enough, shoot them in the back of the head with no warning. They may threaten, intimidate, bribe, interrogate, coerce, or use limited violence to get what they want out of a person. And when faced with a moral conundrum they often choose what is best for themselves and shrug off or deal with the consequences as they come. That, of course, doesn't mean they can't be without compassion but given the choice would prefer to not have to deal with such entanglements and keep it simple. The Ruthless Hunter/The Sadistic Hunter: Then you have more evil aligned bounty hunters. Not nearly as prevalent but still there are examples (again pulling from Star Wars). Here is where you find people like Cad Bane or Montross. They are firm believers for live bounties that "alive doesn't mean unharmed". This is the type of bounty hunter that hunts for the thrill of the pursuit, the glory of the kill, and the power of holding someone's fate in their hands. Or they're a more ruthless edition of the professional. Perfectly willing to use aggressive tactics, even threaten innocent people's lives or inflict pain on them, to get the bounty. Has few qualms about killing or torturing people to get what they want. The darkest bounty hunters actually use their authority as an excuse to kill people and not get into legal trouble doing it and enjoy the thrill of hunting people like animals and killing them. However even less extreme evil ones might still get some satisfaction out of it.

We did run a Bounty Hunter campaign years ago in West End's Star Wars. It was fun at the start, but after a while it was just an exercise in lots of combat, the inevitable skullduggery and the fact that after a while people wanted to switch characters to something different or left entirely, waiting for the next campaign. After a while you don't trust anybody, especially the characters that are supposed to actually help you. The Bounty Hunter is like the Assassin, it's a combat class with extra cool points and mystique, though in the vast majority of games they are not functionally different from other combat types and in mixed parties the whole shtick is mostly irrelevant other than to scratch some teenage edgelord style itch.

I need to know how to run a lot of different campaigns because I'm planning on doing an open world experience with a bunch of shit that could potentially happen or not. I have a feeling if they don't become bounty hunters they're definitely going to have to deal with one or two. Especially if they end up joining the pirates.

the first character i ever made was a bountyhunter. never got to play him though, because i was sparing him for when i would play a campaign, which hasnt happened yet. later though, i started feeling he was too generic and i kinda just didnt really want to play him anymore, so i ended up deleting the character sheet. but this kinda makes me want to play him now... we'll see

Wouldn't it be cool if you finally reached the bounty, and it turned out they were already in custody from another community, in a far away place, and the law enforcement refuse to hand him over, or plan to execute him, or maybe he is about to get hanged as you arrive. If your payment is a high amount it would leave the goodie players debating on whether they should steal custody through illegal acts. And then on the way back the prisoner can either try escaping, or helping a lot and proving their innocence. Idk just a random idea. Pog.
