Well, I don't think Natural Ice is something Frats in Arizona drink. Back when I was in college, people would drink a lot of Corona "because we're close to Mexico"... (Yeah, what do you expect out of a social frat.) Tequila was another staple. Early 90's, so you're looking at a lot of soft alcoholic drinks like wine coolers and Zima. But mostly beer here was either Corona, with the fallback of Bud and Coors. I don't think ASU's frats have evolved much in 30 years. (The Fraternity I was a part of was a service organization, so we didn't so any of the Animal House style parties.)

Most humans have immune systems strong enough to handle it, but not those under a year of age. "The Client is Wrong" episode was a fun 'drink roulette', but this "Zero Expectations Party Drinks" was a true testament to the depth people often sink when they are truly desperate for a drink... or bored out of their skulls. Kuddos to you, Greg, for making stuff that is actually drinkable and maybe even enjoyable after enough alcohol has been ingested. The frat party drink really killed me... like many frat parties in my vaguely-remembered "bad ol' days".

The whole beer and bread thing is pretty accurate - in Denmark it evolved into a dish in and of itself. Øllebrød - which translates to beer bread, it's basically old, dry rye bread that is soaked in malt beer and then cooked. Commonly topped with cream, whipped cream, eggnog or sweetened whipped egg whites. Very tasty and deceptively filling. You eat one dish full, go back for seconds and then half way through you start to feel like you ate an entire loaf of rye bread.

Here in America we have a version of beer bread as well. I'm not exactly sure how it's made, but I think my mum would put a can of beer directly into the dough/batter then bake it. I could eat that stuff all day.

my friends and i made a game like this. we set up a wheel with ingredients from the liquor cabinet and spin it 3 times. from there i make them a tasty drink that has all 3 ingredients. sometimes you get lucky and make a classic cocktail, other times you have to combine bourbon with blue curacao and lime juice. we call it the Drink Randomizer

My ex brother in law used to do the 6-4-9 shot for a bar bet. At the bar pick a bottle at random. Count 6 bottles, then 4, and 9 (going to the next row as necessary) and that is your shot. The 649 comes from a lottery where we live, Lotto 649.

Excellent format. I need more of this since I end up having to do this myself all the time. It gets fun. Also fun is when party guests start asking for weird or different things because... well... you've been making them cocktails... Last party I was at a guest asked me for an AMF, but didn't like how negative the Adios part of the name was. They instead wanted it doctored into an "Hola MF" so I swapped the blue curacao with triple sec, swapped in some Monster Ultra Fiesta Mango instead of sprite, and spooned grenadine down the side to settle at the bottom of the hurricane glass they wanted it in. It looked like a sunrise.

cheers mate, big fan here. I really think that there are two great tests for a bartender: making good drinks with subpar ingredients, so that you know the reason its good is NOT the quality of the ingredients, and making a creative mocktail. That is, in particular when you are out, you can immediately tell the quality of the bartender and of the establishment by the presence and quality of mocktails, because that demonstrates that the establishment is not targeting people who just want to get drunk.

This reminds me of a pirate themed party I was at last year. Everyone brought rum except for a bottle of coke, so lemons with no juicer, some whiskey, and I wisely brought a pomegranate liqueur (like an actual one with , not just syrup). In fact there was also no Ice and water so after a corner store run a I did lemon juice and the pomegranate with a few of the spied rums, mainly the kraken. It actually turned out to be an instant hit.

"Party at the retirement home" reminded me that my grandma used to drink scotch and water at the nursing home to help with her dementia. Because she could only eat the food they made and the medicine they provided she had a prescription from her doctor for "1.5 oz of Jameson mixed with water and ice, as needed." Had most of a bottle left when she passed so we all did a shot in her honor.

So you know: While people have started calling the tool used to measure pours a jigger. While that is the current meaning of the word its origins are as a specific measurement. A jigger is 1.5 fluid ounces. It was named jigger after the smallest mast on old sailing boats, the jiggermast. 1.5 fluid ounces was the standard size of the vessel used to serve the sailors their daily rum ration.
