I have to agree with you. As a matter of fact, I loved Linda Ronstadt's version until I heard this version from Hozier. The dude's voice is fucking amazing. Probably why I loved Ronstadt's version due to her beautiful voice!

My girl turned me onto " From Eden" such a beautiful and wonderful gift and one of my very favorites now ( this weekend we will sneak out onto the beach when it's the wee hours and we will dance to that song) AND NOW I get to share this very soulful ---- gorgeous version of " Dark End of the Street. What an incredible tale on one of my favorite songs!! Thank you.

Actually, Dan Penn and Chips Moman wrote the song and James Carr was the first to have recorded the song. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_End_of_the_Street
