@Bascileo2 ай бұрын
You wish! I wish! We all wish! Finally there's art in the lyrics again, after a long time. But you know what? The grammys will be for Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Cyrus, Eilish and more of that crap music... If you notice, 'Take me to church' was pure art, I mean the music and the lyrics! But they choose Sam Smith :/ Hozier has proven he's a great writer, J.Joyce would be proud. Plus, Ireland is a country that has true musical gems: U2, The Cranberries, Sinéad O'Connor...

@@renemoloney9403 well from my understanding.. "you treat your mouth as if it's heavens gate"-- heaven's gate can imply a connotation "saint like" you are too nice..very selective with your words and the things you say..because it's followed by "the rest of you like you're the TSA" the TSA is airport security so suggesting this person is too guarded. So he is saying she is very soft and sweet, careful with words enough to not hurt anyone, or cause trouble, hence the chorus I think I'll take my whisky neat... strong and brutally honest then well yunoo anyways.. hope his helps..I.could be wrong haha :)

@@Happycat37330 hozier loves a tragic romance! And some people just prefer someone who is wiser, more open to experiences, less innocent and clean cut. Or at least more open to the darker aspects and walks of life. Especially if one is not so innocent themselves. She also tries to tell him to live more like she does, and he says he just isn't like her. He could find someone more compatible, and so could she. Nothing wrong with preferences!

The true meaning of this song revolves around a contrast between two different lifestyles and the dynamics of a relationship where these differences are evident. The narrator describes their own late-night, laid-back, and somewhat rebellious way of living, characterized by staying up late, drinking whiskey neat, and taking coffee black. In contrast, their partner is depicted as an early riser, more disciplined, and perhaps more conventional or "sweet" in their approach to life. The narrator acknowledges and admires the partner's qualities but feels that their own lifestyle is fundamentally different. This difference creates a sense of admiration mixed with an understanding that their ways of living might not entirely align. The song expresses a desire to be accepted for their own way of life while appreciating the partner's contrasting traits. Ultimately, it’s about accepting and embracing differences within a relationship while staying true to oneself.

WOW! I may love this analysis of the song almost as much as the song itself!
@grassblock7668Ай бұрын
Also, Hozier himself said, when asked the meaning of the song, all of this along with a line similiar to this: "They reject them out of fear that then they might have their life a little bit too put togheter" so it also appears that the narrator, who couldn't be bothered to take care of themselves, pushes away someone who could take care of them.
@user-bx3wb3uq7tАй бұрын
Or it could describe oil and vinegar , that don't mix efficiently and can go down just as easily
@KiraLouuАй бұрын
I think it's less about admiration and more about the fact that some people just prefer the imperfect way of living..letting go more, living in the moment, enjoying life when it's raw and bitter rather than "sweet". It's not about wanting to be different or wanting to be accepted, it's just stating the fact that her "perfection" doesn't attract him.

@@theforestapp this a fairly new song by Hozier called Too Sweet and he’s telling a girl he can’t be with her cause she’s too sweet for him and that he’s a mess she doesn’t want to get involved with. So I’m saying to tell someone “I’ll take my whiskey neat” is a new way to tell someone that you’re not made for each other but it isn’t because an attraction isn’t there, it’s because you’re too different people that wouldn’t mesh in life.
