HP’s ultra-light 14” business Ultrabook weighs just 2.5 lb / 1.13kg, and sports a magnesium alloy casing. Despite its diminutive size and light weight, it packs a healthy number of ports including 2 Thunderbolt 2, 2 USB-A and an HDMI port. It’s more upgradable than the average Ultrabook thanks to 2 RAM slots. The laptop is available with Intel 11th gen Core i5 and i7 processors, with optional vPro and standard Intel Iris Xe graphics. It was released in the fall of 2021. There are a variety of display options and 4G and 5G WWAN are optional.

I'm very fond of Elitebooks. Especially old ones. I have an Elitebook 820 G1. It's ancient by today's "standards" but I've had it for ages and still don't need to upgrade. Mine survived so much I'm also very attached to it. I dropped it in a huge puddle once while in sleep mode and got flooded. When I picked it up water was cascading through the vents and the laptop was dead. Cleaned it and left it to dry for a day or so. Still works today. No corrosion or problems 3 years after that incident. My gf has a top spec 830 G7 from work and for what you'd use these Elitebooks mine feels just as fast. Compared to mine the new ones are even worse in the display department thanks to HP's sure view. The new keyboards are worse and the plastic they use for the keys is very brittle. One of her keys broke just from dropping a pen on it. Other than that they are tough little machines that are very upgradable. It took just 10 minutes to replace her keyboard. They are quite expensive for the hardware they have so you can find better value somewhere else but they are expensive because they are not disposable products like most laptops. Also, HP supports these machines for long periods of time with updates and security patches.

My company gave us these and boy do they get hot. It's summer in Australia now and working from home on this laptop is unbearable. However, a wireless keyboard and mouse combo is godsend. I do get random keystrokes and mouse clicks a few times a day though. Not sure why.

Got recently myself 835 G8 based on Ryzen 5850U, my first EliteBook, as a replacement for ThinkPad based on 1135g7 which was really getting hot. Really liking it and can recommend, good battery life, just wish it had 16:10 aspect, with really good keyboard but missing the trackpoint. ThinkPad users should like it as an alternative.

How was the typing experience? I have Elitebook x360 and I love it but I'm thinking of switching to Thinkpad because I've experience it in a store and it's good.

@@castle_novelist ThinkPad for me is king when it comes to keyboard experience, along with TrackPoint. I'd recommend to wait for next gen CPU (Alder Lake in case of Intel), somehow Tiger Lakes are hot, though X1 series seem better.

@XMACHINAv2 2 жыл бұрын
@@prajaybasu Perhaps not. But then, I don't know how people are managing to get discount pricing from HP. Last summer I had the Z-Book Studio on a short list of laptops I was considering. I chose the "Build your own" option, and my configuration ended up being +$5000. I thought this must have been the _pre-discount_ price, and that I just needed to find a discount code somewhere on the site to get the _real_ price. (That's how Lenovo operates so I figured HP worked the same way.) No such discount code could be found: HP just expected people to pay double what they would for similarly configured laptops from the competition.
@CinimodMG
@CinimodMG 2 жыл бұрын
@@prajaybasu My large school district has a contract with Dell (not HP, so I fully admit this anecdote may not apply). Essentially, we can only purchase Dell products. I just ordered 14 business-grade laptops for a group of teachers (business-grade is required per the contract). When doing so, Dell acted like we were getting a discount worth hundreds of dollars for each laptop, totaling a discount of about $6,000. We ended up paying $950 for 13.4" laptops with i5 processors, UHD graphics and basically zero features. No touch screen, nothing. Come to find out after looking on their normal site at home and not through our business portal, I the discounts didn't exist. They jacked up the price in our business portal just so they could "give us a discount." Absolutely disgusting. I could've gone to Best Buy and bought far more capable laptops from Dell or any other brand for LESS than I was forced to pay. Sorry about the soap box moment - but I think there are a number of organizations who will end up paying very close to these outrageous prices because they're locked into (what I would consider) very dishonest contracts.

@CinimodMG
@CinimodMG 2 жыл бұрын
@@kayaogz That seems like a fair price. Unfortunately in the U.S., companies are constantly taking advantage of schools financially. Then everyone wonders why we have no money... we do, we've just been forced to waste it.

Laptops don't have GPS (perhaps some rugged laptops meant for the field might offer a GPS module). In theory, 4G and 5G options should have GPS capability, much like your phone.

Great review. Just got one as a work laptop... and I'm gutted. If I want a portable, I'll get an iPad. Sure it's light, small, and has a good battery life but as a work tool, it's garbage! Slow and can't really handle a 4k external display well, and the 250nit FHD is a dim and terrible option for a work laptop. HDD is fast which hides a lot of flaws IMO. Anyway, I'm stuck with it - my 2015 15" Macbook Pro blows this out of the water 7 years old!
