HP HDX16 take apart, disassembly, how-to video (nothing left)

Hi!
No music. No talking. Just work.
If you are taking your HP HDX16 laptop apart be careful and wear an anti-static wrist band or use other anti-static device. If you need to change a LCD usually you don't have to take screen out of a laptop. You can leave it on a laptop and watch the last part of the video where I am taking LCD apart. If you need to change a keyboard, you don't have to take all bottom screws out. There are usually some marks, like a keyboard picture, on a case bottom. If you need to put a laptop back to work be aware of screws. They are different and you better remember or mark them somehow to insure that you will put them back in to a right place.
Some laptops I take apart first time, so don't be serious on my time and performance.
If something got broken - ooops, it's your fault.
Believe me, some parts in your laptop are already broken, you just don't see that.
This video is like insurance for your laptop. With this video and some skills you will be always sure that at least you can try to repair your laptop. If it's broken you don't have to sell it or throw it away. You can find some new or used parts somewhere and change it. It maybe will be your new job or hobby. And if it didn't worked out you still will be able to ask somebody else to fix it.
So, just watch this video and fix your laptop.

This is an EXCELLENT video, and helped me get down to my flickering screen problem. BTW, if anyone else is experiencing a loose screen and/or screen flickering, you only need to remove the 5 screws with arrows (2 in back corners and 3 in battery compartment) to remove the speaker grille. Also, you don't (& shouldn't) need to remove the 2 other screws in the battery compartment if you only want to remove the speaker grille because 1) those 2 screws hold down to the touch-sensitive media control button bar, and 2) the 2 screws have a slightly narrower shaft than all other screws used in the laptop, so don't lose them or confuse them. :-)

How did you fix the screen flickering issue? Mine got that issue and black screen as well at certain screen angle!

I've had my HDX 16 since late 2008. It's been through a lot. A LOT! And been all over the world with me. The best laptop I've ever bought cause of performance. It's had its problems, mostly overheating. And today, I think the power supply finally said goodnight. I believe the laptop still works, and could be pushed for another year or more without any major change. It's just the overheating and now dead power supply that is inviting me to buy a new laptop.

Daniel McIsaac I've had my HDX 16 the same amount of time and like you have brought it everywhere and used it everywhere. I really don't want to get rid of it yet but a new laptop is tempting :) I have also had the exact same issues as you.

Kevin McMulkin Shortly after writing, I bought a new power supply, and the laptop is fine. Still gets very warm, though not as hot, and doesn't overheat. Was clearly a power supply issue. The battery doesn't last long on its own, though still a great laptop. Yet, I bought a new laptop anyway, (ASUS (which I've already had numerous problems since day one) and still have the 16 in the meantime as a backup.

a great help to de-assemble HP HDX but when assembled it back have problems with connecting Mic and Camera cables from the screen to the motherboard - there are no pins to insert the cables marked 1 and 2. It happened because the cables were pulled before opening the case and it isn't possible to see where the cables were attached on the motherboard. Does somebody know where the cables should be attached? Thanks

And i watched this over and over again just to clean my fan off the dust.. i gave up when i realized i must tears down all my parts just to reach the fan..

Hi, thanks for the great video. My screen has become very dim lately and I have read that it could be the inverter. I wanted to follow your instructions to open my laptop and replace the inverter but it seems to me that the only way to do that is to remove the keyboard and then remove the screen as you do around 5' 40''. I am a bit reluctant to do that so I wanted to ask you if there is another way to get to the inverter without completely removing the screen.

No you don't need to take the laptop apart to change the screen or inverter. You would however have to break it down if you needed to replace the cable.

Hp has good tutorial videos at their support site, I tore down and put back together an HDX18 and it was a cakewalk with the videos for each part. You can, however, take the back off the LCD screen without taking anything else off and get to the inverter. h20574.www2.hp.com/default.htm

I need to replace my motherboard on HDX18 - 1200 and I cant find a better video Looks like i need to use this one :) Also cant find HP tutorial as well I use it as a spare laptop and its a best 18 screen i ever own

Hi! Thanks for the video. Have you had any problem with the HP quick launch buttons (HP hdx16)? I've had issues with it - my WiFi turning on and off by itself and sometimes the treble and bass volumes adjust by itself as well. I've watched a bunch of videos. It seems like a hardware issue to me. Any suggestion or remedy for this without having to buy a new "keyboard cover" (or the HP launch button)?

buy a new keyboard cover :))) okok kidding. I honestly not sure what can cause that. Usually If something does not work or work not properly - I am trying to get part that can help to understand what can actually cause that.In your case I would buy or get somewhere a working power button (launch button) and try to test it. WiFi turning on and off... hmm, not sure where the wifi switch is. If it is on a main board than it will be probably idea to test wifi first.

It's the program HPToneControl that messes up the touch buttons. If you disable the program from running at startup, it should solve your issue. Of course the bass and treble buttons won't work, but the volume control and wifi buttons still will.

Im thinking about getting a SSD hard drive for this, do you think its usefull or maybe save that money for a new laptop. Its 5 years now but runs real smooth, nice graphics and i like it very much. On the other hand im not willing to buy another computer but I want to know if unpgrading to an ssd would make an improvement thank you!

Hey TheDave9292 I am sure you will feel an improvement by adding an SSD to your laptop. On the other hand if you plan to buy another laptop in the future - you may also save some money. If your laptop runs without any issue and you have enough power in it for your daily tasks, I would say SSD will be like a hobby project and not something that you really really need. Personally I am planning to upgrade my hdd to ssd if it will start to fail.

HI my hdx16 would not boot unless you had the screen in the right angled postion so i guess it must be the screen ribbon cable is that a hard job ? thaNKS

I read that I can swap out the p8500 processor with a t9600 fine. Any forseeable issues by doing this? Also, can't I just take the bottom plastic off to access the cpu without going through the top and totally removing the mobo?

khenzel it should be ok, if the motherboard chipset is supporting the desired cpu. Maybe fan will run a bit more since processor will be a bit more hot that previous version.

I play wow on mine??? You have to go low settings and you only get 30 to 24 FPS but it will do, and that's in a 25 man LFR also. You can go 60 FPS at lowest settings in the open world...

привет у меня есть хп хдкс 16-1310, например, требуемый, чтобы знать, может ли человек, который загружает гнездо, просто изменить вилку потока где ведомый сияния------------я вынес бы юберсецунгс программу он составляет ошибочно мог бы переводиться ошибочно

автомобильный домкрат DC не отделяют хп хдкс 16-1310 угрожай. . . они имеют скюп. тогда это не будет таким образом комплицайрт
