After using the new HP Spectre for 4 months, I wanted to show you the features I like, dislike, and don't actually use.
HP SPECTRE x360 GEM CUT: amzn.to/2JfcLDJ
FULL REVIEW: • New HP Spectre x360 15...
After my first impression video, I have since changed my opinions on some features and now either like or dislike them. Overall, this is still an amazing laptop, but there are a few caveats to be aware of. I think that this laptop might be the best student laptop of 2019 if you can afford it. It is a hefty investment, but well worth is if you need a laptop with power and speed.
Added review notes:
The Good:
EXTERIOR
* Aesthetics - many compliments
* Keyboard is perfectly clicky and well back lit
* Magnetic lid closure
* Webcam switch is amazing (and anyone who says they still tape it is ridiculous)
* Can charge via USB-C (Sorry for the mis-speak last time!!)
* Rarely heats up at all - if it gets warm during 4k exports, I just change the fan control and even then it is not loud
* I was worried that the gold would scratch off, but it really doesn’t
INTERIOR
* Very very fast
* Fantastic screen
* Battery life
* Fan control (with HP settings)
* Battery control
* HP EQ panel
RARELY USED
* HP Spectre Pen is very fun to use, although it is not extremely useful
* Tablet mode is very fun and appealing, but I almost never use it
* Three settings of backlit keyboard makes it perfect for any lighting condition (I rarely use the brightest though - what is the point?)
The Bad:
EXTERIOR
* Screen is a bit “jiggle” - proper stiffness, but poorly damped
* Fingerprint sensor
* If I leave the webcam off, face ID will not let me in - instead I use my PIN a lot
* All USB-C ports are on the same side, and very close together
* Speaker buzz at high volumes
* some complain of high pitch fan sounds - I noticed no such thing though
INTERIOR
* 4K editing can be a bit slow to render
* 2 GPUs can make it tricky for programs like OBS, but I figured out how to work around that
* Most components are soldered in, so adding RAM, etc. is not practical
* Price is a bit high - for this price, I think HP could have stepped a few things up a notch

I got the one from the hp website instead of the one best buy. I was hesitant after Linus Tech Tips tore it apart, especially regarding the trackpad... trust me, the guy was dead wrong about the trackpad. This is the best 2 in 1 that hit every single checkmark that I was looking for (the full size keyboard was the last selling point since I'm a data cruncher). It keeps the internal temperature cooler then you might expect and it does amazing with the options it has potential for. I will never keep quiet about how much I have loved using this 2 in 1 and I definitely recommend it.

@@lunabright94 Linus's review is way off base. Not sure what his issue was but his is the only bad review that I've seen on KZfaq or anywhere else. I've lost all respect for anything he says now and stopped watching his videos. I love my X360 though I do have an issue with the finger print reader not seeing my finger. I'm going to try reprogramming it to see if that solves the problem. Update: The issue with the finger print reader was...me. Lol. I wasn't keeping my finger on the sensor long enough. On rare occasions it has trouble reading my finger but the majority of the time it works fine. Most of the time when it doesn't read the first time, all I have to do is move my finger a little bit (after lifting it off completely) and it will read fine.

Thank you for your review, I’m a musician and I use a lot of music notation software that requires a lot of memory to run. I still have my HP Pavilion from years ago. I’m reluctant to purchase a computer that won’t hold up like it has. I’m glad they moved the fan vents to the side, because that was my main issue with mine. I’m also on my second charger.

May not be your use case but I definitely found the 2in1 aspect of it to be really useful for college classes and taking notes. It let me either write out notes or mark up lecture slides really easily. Its not perfect, but if you want to take electronic notes it’s definitely capable and so you won’t need to buy another device to do that.

How did you find the tablet mode? Was it sometimes a bit to big and heavy or did you get used to the size? I'm currently trying to find out if I should get a 15.6 or a 14inch laptop. Generally I prefere 15.6inch in normal mode, but I'm a bit afraid that it might be to bulky in tablet mode. What's your take on this? I'm currently looking for a laptop for my engineering studies starting this year.
@King0fHero
@King0fHero 3 жыл бұрын
@@Marco-vp8wl I have the 15.6 inch model aswell, so I thought I'd take the liberty of answering for him. First off: I have to say that generally 2-in-1s aren't good at beeing a tablet for handheld use because of the then weird placement of the keyboard on the back and additionally the 15.6 inch Spectre is pretty heavy to always hold in your hand. But then again you always have a "stand" with you when you set it down in tent mode and most often I use it flat down on a table to take notes with the pen in class for example. So I have a portable device with which I can do heavier workloads like editing and gaming - even VR titles - and do all kinds of stuff for university all in one. So you'll want to consider your personal possible use cases first and then decide whether you want to accomplish them with several devices which are maybe more specialized or go with a 2-in-1 which is maybe often more of a "jack of all trades, master of none" type of device. I hope that helped maybe a little in making your decision.

I am 73 and just ordered a mid version of this computer. I am not a heavy type software user, however I do want to start editing some of my drone videos, especially the one where I flew it into a tree and have video until it hit the ground, then the video stopped for some reason. The real reason I ordered this Corvette instead of using my older i5 laptop or i7 desktop sedan? Two very good reasons, one I like the looks and Mike says it feels solid too. Mostly though, I travel a lot and carry a laptop in my camper. I get very impatient waiting for the computer to decide when it is ready to do something. I have thousands of photos and quite a few videos and I like to look at them, and they appear slowly on my old one. I used to build a new desktop every year, however that is just not practical or for me, even possible. I like that this one is soldered together so I can carry it on my electric bike or wherever. While I don't necessarily like that I have to use a separate DVD deck to watch or make DVDs, at least it has ports to make it really fast.

Five months after purchasing the labtop and with very light use, the hinges became misaligned and made a popping sound when I opened the lid. It had to be sent to service centre for repair, and the whole lid and hinges were replaced. It took three weeks before it was returned to me because the parts were on back order. Then about two weeks after it came back from being serviced, the trackpad had issues. The pointer disappeared and the trackpad was unreponsive. After being with online support for 3 hours without success in solving issue, I was told the laptop had to be sent in again for service. When it came back three days later, it worked okay for a day. Then the trackpad issue re-occur. I can not scroll, enlarge or do anything else with the trackpad except move the cursor and even then, it freezes intermittently, sometimes every 5 seconds. Tomorrow, I will have to call customer service again ... for the third time. It's been so frustrating. So much time wasted trying to get what is supposed to be a premium product to work. Meanwhile, my old Dell laptop which I've had for more than six years and bought at a quarter of the cost is still chugging along, and it never had to be serviced.

I have the top of the line version. I got a great deal on it from Best Buy. They sent me a $200 coupon so I only paid $1799 for it. I use the tablet mode all the time. As far as I can tell this is the best convertible laptop you can get. I wish there was a MS Surface with these stats because they have the best convertible design.

This laptop does a very good job of Face Recognition for signing in. As a backup, I have my complete cell phone number backward as my PIN, which is nice if someone else tries to log on, or if the face recognition didn't work (which I haven't come across yet.) Of course if you're still paranoid, you can turn off your camera after you log in.

Great review. New sub here. I have the same laptop in poseidon blue. It's gorgeous. Just got it about 1.5 months ago. You're right, the fingerprint is not so great. I have 2 questions: - I have no recovery manager. If I do a search I just get the recovery media creator. Is yours the same too? - Also I have no separate Bang & Olufsen module. If I do a search I don't get it. And it's not in the apps & features too. I found out that it's in the HP Audio Control under output where you can toggle the B&O off and on. Is yours the same too? The reason I ask is because when I called HP support to confirm this, the rep told me I should have a recovery manager and B&O audio in the apps and features and I should be able to find B&O when I do a search (which I don't). And he suggested I do a laptop recovery to get these 2 things back which I'm hesitant to do. I did go back to the store where I got the laptop from and checked the exact laptop on display - it had no recovery manager and B&O app too, just like mine. Please reply. I need to know. Thanks.

Do you think this would be better or worse than the XPS 15 for photo editing, video editing (Nothing super serious no 4k video or anything like that), and ocassional gaming (Games like csgo and overwatch), while also doubling as a student laptop.

Take a look at the MSI PS63 (or the Prestige 15 if you need 4K, but it's not released until 9/10/19). It's a few hundred cheaper than this one, really premium feeling, and IMO it's a better all-rounder without the 2-in-1 feature.

Sound? Bluetooth it to an external speaker; Fingerprint sensor? Quick & easy, never had a problem. There's a reason the power pack is that big. This machine requires a lot of juice to keep it going. Plenty of other options. If you require video editing, CAD work-engineering, etc, then you might want to spend $2500+ on a laptop. But for the person that has a need for speed on everyday activities, this HP is fantastic.

quick question, how is the USB-C charging working ? i would like to get some docking station to get more connection posibilities like Ethernet, more USBs etc .. anyone have some recommendation for docking station that can charge/work as powerbank and have aditional ports ??? i just ordered mine, i was also looking at Dell XPS 15 but at the same price i would get less storage worse design and just slightly better battery (like +1-2 h which isnt that noticable at battery life of 8h +) Im PhD student and i realy needed upgrade from my Lenovo G505s which is unable to run many basic programs that i need etc.. The only think i so far dont like is that this laptop is missing ETHERNET port for my internet cable that i bring everywhere with me :-) i realy used most of my money for the TOP version with GTX 1650, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 4K display so im realy hoping it will be great and i will be able to use it for next XX years :D
