@@TheBLGL If your going to be snarky about it at least get it right. No man is an island, Entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, A part of the main. Cliff Burton. Man, musician, legend. Who started off his life as an ordinary guy from California, ended up being the legendary bassist of the godly metal band known as Metallica. It was he who provided us with the greatest bass solos and Metallica albums of all time: Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets. September 27, 1986. One of the darkest days in Metallica history. On tour in Sweden, a bus driver loses control after skidding on black ice, and Cliff is thrown through a window, and then crushed by the bus, ending the life of the greatest bassist ever. May Cliff Burton's soul rest in peace, and may he rock on forever in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside his brothers, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Kirk Hammett. Cliff, from the top of our hearts, rock on, mother fucker.

All I can picture is soldiers in world war two... machine guns... planes bombing.... artillery.... mortars.... grenades... soldiers dying left and right.... rushing through gunfire... then the aftermath.... "For a hill men would kill, why? They do not know. Stiffened wounds test their pride." This song is the ultimate description of war and the trauma in music.

I never knew the influence of the song. Was drinking some absinthe, researching it simultaneously, then Wikipedia mentioned Hemingway and his like for absinthe. Clicked on this video for lyrics and scrolled for Hemingway comments. Here you were. Not much of a reader, but gonna read me some Hemingway. He survived a short life with 2 debilitating plane crashes, they probably caused his pain and drinking. 4 marriages! Multiple wars involved in. I am of an age that apparently kinda missed his influences. Thanks for your comment.

Make his fight on the hill in the early day Luchan en la colina temprano por la mañana Constant chill deep inside escalofrÍo constante por dentro Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey arma que grita, siguen corriendo por el gris interminable continúan luchando, porque tienen razón si, pero ¿quiÉn puede decirlo? For a hill men would kill, why? they do not know por una colina los hombres matan ¿por qué? no lo saben Suffered wounds test there their pride las heridas sufridas ponen a pruba su orgullo Men of five, still alive through the raging glow hombres de cinco, aún vivos a través del brillo furioso Gone insane from the pain that they surely know vueltos locos por el dolor que seguro conocen estribillo: For whom the bell tolls ¿por quien doblan las campanas? Time marches on el tiempo continúa su marcha For whom the bell tolls ¿por quien doblan las campanas? Take a look to the sky just before you die hecha un vistazo al cielo justo antes de morir It is the last time you will es la Última vez que lo harás Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky rugido ennegrecido, rugido masivo llena el cielo que se desmorona Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry la meta destrozada llena su alma con un grito cruel Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery ahora sus ojos son más extraños a este misterio He hears the silence so loud Él escucha el silencio muy fuerte Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be grieta del amanecer, todo se ha ido excepto el deseo de existir Now they will see what will be, blinded eyes to see ahora ven lo que será ojos cegados para ver (estribillo)

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. MEDITATION XVII Devotions upon Emergent Occasions John Donne
