Thank you Companies and senior hr need to understand this as well. It’s crazy that they don’t understand or using the HRBP title but need a generalist and wanting to pay generalist money. Don’t get me started on HR managers and they not wanting to pay but you do everything and train lol😂

YES! I literally went through a situation like this with my most recent job. They posted an "HR Business Partner " position. I applied and eventually received an interview and accepted the position. During the interview, I made it CLEAR that I didn't want a generalist position, as my skill set was better suited for a BP. They assured me, only for me to start the position and realize that it was, in fact, a General position (and low key an HR Coordinator position). Needless to say I wasn't there long.

This makes total sense! Thank you for breaking this down (also, its comical that I started typing this right before 7:30 :D). It seems like the generalists are the wheels and the bp is the driver/steering wheel. They work together to accomplish the same function, but their approach/responsibility/influence is totally different.

I currently work as an HRG, yet my role seems to be a hybrid of both HR generalist and HRBP based on core responsibilities. Is this common? HR generalist in my organization have to strategize company business goals with leadership from a human resource perspective. My leader is not an HR leader but a senior leader within the store. So basically, could be thought of being a HRBP within stores. Our HRG pay range is beyond the stated average range.
@HeyyyHR
@HeyyyHR 9 ай бұрын
Typically, an HRBP strategize continuously throughout the year with business units. Business units are large “departments” with several departments within it. Since you & your leader is engaged with HR initiatives, it would be expected to get your insight on decision making for strategic purposes. Typically, HRBPs have business units with hundreds of employees. It doesn’t sound like you’re doing anything outside of what’s expected of an HRG. Is that helpful?
@Daynam30
@Daynam30 9 ай бұрын
@HeyyyHR thanks so much for your quick and insightful response. I agree, most of what I do would fall under the HRG role. I would also say retail or at least the company I work for may have some blurred lines. I am also considered a store team leader with HRG responsibilities. That is another topic in itself. But I am to have bi-weekly meetings with every exempt department leader in our store that are ironically called business unit meetings. During these meetings, we identify gaps within their business and assist with creating a strategy to close those gaps. These leaders are considered my peers, and they do not report to me as we share the same leader. I have to create an HR strategy within our store that helps us achieve our store specific business goals. The general HR strategy is passed down from the VP of HR to the HRM. I have to bring that to life within our store, get our store leaders buy-in and then communicate with my peers. If that makes sense. Our HRBP does conduct some HRG duties as a part of her role for exempt leaders... i.e. onboarding, performance management, but she does more strategizing as she also has to bring the HR strategy to life within the district while we do this in the stores. Sorry for the essay 😅

🤔🤔 Internal consulting is my sweet spot so I’ll have to do some research on this one. Hearing a consultant used as an internal title confuses bc consultants are external positions & should be treated as contractors.

Great video sis! I recently finished my Masters in Human Resource Management and I currently work in Finance. If someone is looking to transition into HR what jobs would you recommend? I seen some people say become a recruiter for an agency, but most positions I see wants you to have experience already in the field. I have applied for some internships and recruiting positions and I have also become a chapter member with SHRM through my school so I have been reading those resources as well.

Thank you! Being a recruiter for a staffing agency is the easiest way to go but you have to show aggressiveness I’m your transferrable skills because recruiting is SUCH a heavy topic right now! Beyond that, I would learn more abt what I connect with then revamp my resume to show how I can do it successfully & have done it through transferrable skills.
