Hi Craig, thanks for your support. Probably 10-15% of my videos are practical topics outside the workshop, and the occasional video on where and how we live here in UK. Summer is always busy and there are many calls on my time but now we are getting into Autumn I'm getting some time in the workshop again. The irony is I can spend a week making a video in the workshop and get 300 views, and then some other time post a 3-minute vid on oiling a door lock and get 26k views! It was just a filler but is now my highest earning vid by a factor of two! The next video will be a bit of TIG welding and drilling, back in the workshop. Cheers

Hi Andrew, there are quite a few options. The concertina ladders require very little space and are surprisingly sturdy. I've fitted two now, both where space was restricted. Cheers

Hi GTB, the concertina ladders are designed for specific ceiling heights like 8 foot, 9 foot, 10 foot etc. If you get the wrong one it is too vertical or too shallow. We could have fitted an insulated loft hatch arrangement like you did but we would have needed the 9 foot ladder rather than the 8 foot ladder. Could have been done but we went for simplicity this time. Cheers

Hi TRM, I've also had the sliding aluminium ladder experience. I've found the device that locks the two/three sections when the ladder is extended can be tricky and maybe it locks on one side and not the other and then the ladder is wonky when you stand on it. The concertina ladder is a bit more expensive but works in very confined spaces and is surprisingly sturdy. Cheers

Hi Craig, yes it's difficult to video in confined spaces and poor light. I know some creators have 5 synchronised cameras, studio lighting, put on a clean shirt, brush their hair, and smile a lot ...... I can't be bothered messing with all that.🤨 Cheers

Hi Kevin, I've fitted two of these concertina ladders now. With the first one the rafters were only about 2 feet above the hatch at the highest point and I had to crawl in practically. The concertina was my only option and it was surprisingly sturdy. Cheers

Hi MadLFC, yes it is a bit stiff and I usually get a chair or steps so I can manually lift the loft ladder off its hooks holding the hatch door down and pushing the ladder up. Cheers

Hi Mark I'm glad it's useful. Like I say, I'm no expert it's just a bit of home DIY but it's not fallen off yet. 😁 You could probably do a better job with the door hinges than I did - daughter reports one hinge is coming lose. I think the door is binding on those draft-seal wood strips I nailed round maybe forcing the hinge a bit. Cheers

I have a concertina ladder in my own house, like the one you saw no choice due to restricted roof space, and I have to use a step ladder to reach and push the concertina ladder off the integral hooks before extending it. There could be a better way, but I've not seen one any different yet. Cheers

@@HaxbyShed The hooks on the website are different to the ones on the ladder i received, mine are much deeper and not sloped. Quite a bad design, i thought of putting a baton on the inside of the hatch and just letting them rest on that. It's a shame because it's a quality ladder let down by that poor latch design.

I have the same issue. It's an obvious flaw in the design. Defeats the whole purpose of having the ladder in the first place. You need another ladder to access that ladder. 😀

Hi Bill, I think £450 is about the going rate at the moment. They were quoted £1000 for widening the opening, a new complete hatch door unit, and a nicer ladder. Still money is money and I was happy to help. Cheers.
